Hey all

I'm a new fan of the show - kinda late on the boat I know.

I've gone through almost all of the shows now - which is a feat in itself

I bought the DVD's at an HMV here in Ottawa but they wont play in my DVD machine and when I tried to play them on my Computer it said that I was not in the proper region. Luckly my "fixed" xbox plays them alright.

So now i'm at the show Heart of Gold and the menu arrow wont come up when I'm in its submenu for
-Play Episode
-Language Selection
-Scene Selection

so i'm stuck - i've checked two other episodes on the disk and they work alright. The only way I can see around it is to rip the video off the disk with a computer program. Does anyone Else have this issue - and have they fixed it? cause i dont want to be carrying around another disk with this set whenever i want to watch it. I cant return them either because i'm moving in a few days and the store is a bit outta my range.

I am having a blast with the series - I've had a hate on for Fox since they cancelled Space Above and Beyond - but this is just down right nasty. The only time I heard about this show was when Space the Imagination Station up here in Canada advertised it.

I mention how much I've fallen in love with this show (i've seen the movie 7 times now, twice in theaters so i'm doing my part there, and loved that too) so you wont think i'm an ass when i say the DVD navigation on this series of disks is the worst I've ever seen. Its hands down terrible. A friend of mine has a region free DVD player and i'll take it over there to see if there are the same problems.

I see now why a cancelled show had a movie made out of it. Thank you Joss for this increadible series - just hope i'll be able to watch the last 2.

INSANITYLATER

I think you can just start at the last episode that plays correctly and hit "next chapter" That should skip to the next episode. If I understand the problem correctly.

Thanks for the help didn't work though - just sends you out to the menu again for the show you were watching.

I'm putting that episode on a dvd now so i'll be able to continue with the series in an hour or so.

Thanks for the reply =)

Only problem I've had with my DVDs is that I can't get enough of them.

Sorry. I know that's not much help.

A friend to whom I just gifted a DVD series of a world-famous detective just discovered the first DVD, printed on both sides (play two, flip it over and play two more), will not work in his computer (Mac). All the other single-sided DVDs play fine. Yet that two-sided number plays fine on a RECENT DVD player.

I personally just received various DVDs from Australia, which is a different region from U.S., and found they all played perfectly on my recently bought TV-top (JVC brand) DVD player. Apparently more recent DVD players will work in all regions, but older DVDs might not, and that might be the cause of your trouble. I suggest you try your "faulty" disk on a different and perhaps more recently built DVD player to see if it works there.

Good luck.

The DvD player with my TV is pretty neat - it plays divx - mpeg - xvid - dvd - mp3 - and a few others and its brand new.

The DvD player in my computer is only a year old 4x dvd burner. My older 2x dvd burner has the same trouble.

My xbox is the only thing able to play it and its having some trouble - it gets through the shows fine (well except for the one menu I cant select) the bonus features on disk 4 are all acting like there is dirt on the DvD but there isn't any. I've had to reset my xbox on a number of occasions when going through the menu on all of the disks not just #4 because the screen freezes.

I'm still more than happy about picking up the series... i'm just very dissapointed with the disks themselves. I have to head into town before I leave and i'll try and get around to the HMV to exchange it.

The double sided DvD is rather old actually. The first DvDs i bought in the 90s had widescreen on one side and a full screen on the other. Later on i started buying some that had the movie on one side and the special features on the other.

They like putting pretty pictures on them now so I haven't seen many in recent years, which is for the best because one side usually stays exposed longer than the other and it can get scratched really easily - leaving you without a paddle when you want to watch the "orginal theatrical trailers" every once in a long while =)

So i dont think your friend's problem is that his machine is too old as far as a double sided disk is concerned. I've had 2 dvd burners and 1 dvd reader for my computer - an xbox and 4 players for my home entertainment system so I understand that these are not always the most reliable machines

I just dont think what I have is a problem with my machine since the shows play fine and the box set reads 2003. Hopefully I just have a crappy set and if I can get back to that store i'll be able to exchange it for a good one.

again thanks for the replies =)
