Do you think they will ignore the happenings in Serenity?

As much as I want the series to return, it is doubtful. But if it did return, I think Serenity would be the season finale of season 1.

I sort of hope they'd ignore the happenings from the BDM; I just don't like the idea of Firefly the TV show

without Book and Wash, especially Wash!

But if it did make it back to a show I bet they would not ignore the happenings from the BDM.

i think if the show would continue, the could not ignore the BDM. Joss has stated that the BDM would have happened eventually, it was just accellerated for the movie cuz they only had two hours. they could start up a few days later. I would love to see **spoilers** Zoe living without Wash, Mal trying to find a new pilot (i dont think having River as a replacement Pilot would work forever), seein Simon and Kaylee actually getting a relationshiop, but it is Joss so i dont think it would last too long.

and hey, remember how in Heart of Gold, Zoe said how she wanted a baby. What if Wash and Zoe slept together at some point right before the BDM, so she's actually pregnant? that would be awesome! pregnant Zoe! LOL.

I sort of wonder if the movie slammed the door on any chance of reviving the series. I would imagine that any series now would continue a possible rebellion started by the activities of the film with occasional flashbacks to answer lingering questions and gaps.

I'd be happy with a few more movies based on skipped episodes or the history of Book. I think it should be obvious enough that there are enough DVD sales to had to make them viable.

While Wash and Book would be sorely missed, I look at it this way. Joss created these characters that we love so much. We never knew them until he introduced us to them. While no one could ever replace them, who says he can't introduce us to new characters that we will fall in love with. Not everything can remain constant. I would have been nice, but one thing we've sadly learned on the long hard Browncoat road is that nothing in the 'verse is garunteed, and it is hard.

frankly, i think that not much has changed. call me crazy, but first listen to my reasoning. I am looking at it from a mechanical aspect, rather than that of a fan (which i am, but am blocking out for this part):

The couple is now Simon and Kaylee, rather than Wash and Zoe.
The bitter one is now Zoe.
The slightly less bitter captain can fill in for Book, and the slightly less funny captain can fill in for Wash.
The hotshot pilot is now River, with more amusing antics, seeing as anything she chooses to do will be invented on the spot by her prodigious psychic mind, rather than her years of experience as a pilot.
Jayne is still an asshole, still a moron, and still hi-larious.

All in all, the show could be the same from a mechanical aspect. The only thing I hated was that they slaughtered Mr. Universe before he even had a chance to show his mettle with the ensemble cast.

I think it would work okay. She seemed to be a natural with the controls, and it gives River a solid role within the crew. Now that she's exorcized many of her demons and likely won't require the constant supervision she'd been having, being the pilot gives her a new purpose, and not just as a passenger there with her brother. I like the idea quite a bit...

I don't. I'd rather have River out participating in whatever jobs they're doing and not sitting back on Serenity.

I think she'd prolly fill in for both...she seems like the type that could handle it.

Personally, I'd like to see a season that leads up to the movie (as was stated before). Of course, that would make Wash's demise so much more impactful (is that even a word). But it would create some excellent story and make for future episodes to be even better. Then, (as per the comics and the commentary) show when and why Inara and Book left. And why Mal didn't stop her.

WHITEFALL

I think, if the series were to continue, and Joss willing it will someday, we would all have to treat it, as Joss would, as a Whedon TV series.

(buffy s2/angel s1/serenity spoilers)

Select to view spoiler:

People die in whedon shows. I'm only into season 5 of buffy and 2 of angel, but... people die and are replaced, in terms of function and number of cast members. You don't belittle death, you never forget it, it is always a threat, part of the buffyverse, since the murder of jenny calender it has always been an issue. And it makes for better drama. The series could continue given the chance.

Just keep in mind that, had Firefly continued, Wash or Book, like doyle before them in Angel, might have died near the end of the first season. And life would have gone on. It is only because of the cancelation that we came to identify Firefly with these nine (ten) characters only, whereas we would have soon learned that all things are impermanant if the show had continued. Someone new might have joined, or not, but as proven by episodes like The Body, the aftermath of death is more drama than the occurance of death.

Firefly is not dead, and never will be, as long as the 'verse lives on.

yeah, but theres enough time between Objects and Serenity to make a hefty bit o story. And since Firefly is character driven, I think it would be great. I'm not saying bring anyone back, just finish what would've been done if the show hadn't been canceled and lead into the BDM.

true, true, but... well, if the show continued, it would only confuse viewers expecting a continuation of the movie (because, let's face it, we have a LOT of fans of movie first, firefly second, by nature of the wide release) and as such, while Post-Objects to Pre-Serenity would be cool, it would be hard to explain unless we ran the original eps, then the new ones, and by that time it has been a long enough time to run Serenity the movie on a TV channel....

All in all, it'd be too confusing. :-\

I agree with that to some extent. Most of the people I know around here liked the movie so much that they've gone out and seen most of Firefly because the movie was so good.

But there's ways around that confusion. For instance: "Last time on..." Or simply re-air part of the original season. There's many ways in scriptwriting to get around that problem.

Besides...it won't matter. I'm winning the lottery and going to buy the rights to the show and find a way to bring it back. Fox can eat me.

Hm. I wonder how many months would go by before anyone won if all the browncoats started buying all sorts of lottery tickets.

Browncoats are zany enough to just give the price away anyways, and... how many of us are there?

Probability and human nature are against us of course, but it would be an interesting experiment.

That, or just get Bill Gates hooked on the show.

Let's send him copies of the series and movie!! Him and the Walmart people. Although since Walmart is generally the real life equivalent of the Alliance, or Blue Sun, they may just squash us!

I don't know...it would be a bit hard to do a "Grand Entrance" if the pilot is in the barfight.

Then again, if River's in the barfight...they really wouldn't need a "Grand Entrance", huh?

It would be easier to get through the copyright problems if NBC or Sci-Fi produces Serenity: The Series. Fox only controls the rights to Firefly.

I'm not a copyright expert, so I can only guess.

I wouldn't like to see the series continue from where the BDM left off. Not that I particularly minded how things turned out in the movie, but they were sprung on us without enough context or warning. I felt absolutely nothing when the deatsh occurred because I wasn't watching Firefly, I was watching something which felt vageuly similar but that's it. Now, if we ended up with the end point of the BDM after 2-3 seasons more of Firefly, then, no problem. As it stands now, though, reviving Firefly from Serenity would, and this is very early day I grant, feel a lot like trying to revive WKRP; the magic's gone.

If you can survive death, you can probably survive almost anything.
