So there I was, working on a paper and listening to my new Firefly soundtrack. I grinned at the part where Mal's naked in the desert, tapped my foot to River's dance in "Safe", grinned when Early realizes he's been tricked, said out loud, "Every man there go back inside, or we will blow a new crater in this little moon." You get the idea. Then when Tracy's funeral music came on, I got very, very sad, and remembered that Greg Edmonson said that he wrote that to say goodbye to Firefly.

I realized, in a way I hadn't before, just how important Greg was to the show--it wouldn't have been the same without him! And I couldn't help but wonder, "Why didn't he do Serenity?

Maybe this has been discussed before, but does anyone know why David Newman got the job instead of Greg?

Also, if there's anybody that knows where I can write/email Mr. Edmonson, I'd love to drop him a line and thank him personally (-ish).

I was wondering why they didn't have the set guy they talked about. I looked for his name in the credits but didn't see it. In the DVD commentaries they seemed to think he was really important to the show, and I have to agree, the sets were fantastic, so why didn’t he come along.

Serenity was the tenth character, and he made Serenity, so replacing him for the movie was like getting a different actor to play the part.

Wow. I just--wow. I'm still trying to figure out if this is a serious question or just really well crafted parody...

I'm guessing many sacrifices had to be made--"I want a folksy score"--"No, we want a big Hollywood Sci-Fi score". Middle ground? Newman.

No idea what would have kept Ol' Whats-his-name from doing the sets, though.

I'm pretty sure the studio asked Joss to go with a bigger name for the score and he complied.
Interestingly Newman was the second guy to work on the score, the first one got fired. Would be interesting to hear the work he finished before getting canned.

Yeah...I'm really hoping that someone knows the deal with Edmonson, though. Link? Anyone? Bueller?

Causal - you might want to check out the last two episodes of Firefly Talk - they have two halves of an interview with Greg Edmonson. Shiny stuff!

MAL "You only gotta scare him."
JAYNE "Pain is scary..."
