Tell us what people you converted said. Someone just posted this on another message board:

OK, I finally sat down and saw the movie. And I have to say, Chris isn't kidding. This is one of the best movies of the year. I've never seen anything that had quite this kind of style to it, and certainly not a sci-fi film. Even for someone like me who has not seen any of Firefly, Serenity did a good enough job of introducing the setting that I could tell what was going on without getting lost inside series concepts. The characters are already there, you can tell right from the get-go who everyone is and what they do (although a few of them did have backgrounds that would have made a lot more sense if I'd seen the show, I can't really fault the movie for this).

Anyway, to everyone reading this, buy the DVD and get us a sequel made. You might want to invest in the Firefly box set while you're at it. I know I will.

CAUSAL

Great idea, Chris!

I don't have any direct quotes, but I will share a story. (Names altered to protect the innocent...oh, who am I kidding; these are their real names).

A while back I introduced Firefly to a couple of my friends, Tim and Mark. We say down and watched Serenity Parts 1 & 2, but, well, real life got in the way, and we didn't have time to watch more.

A couple of weeks later, Tim told me that he'd seen the box set in Best Buy, picked it up, and watched the rest of the series in one sitting. Thoroughly hooked! He proceeded to get Mark addicted as well.

Fast forward a couple of months. The BDM is getting ready to come out. I invite Darren, a close friend and sci-fi nut, to come to the movie, but he pulls the geek snob routine and adamantly refuses. Can't even get him to watch an episode or two! So I write him off as a lost cause.

So the Big Damn Opening Night rolls around, and the wife and I invite Mark and Tim over for dinner, along with Sylvia (a friend of my wife's). We have dinner, watch the pilot again, then go to the movie. Everyone loves it, obviously. Sylvia is hooked--another Browncoat. She borrows the DVDs and gets addicted.

So we go to see the BDM again, same group, and Sylvia invites her brother, who is also instantly hooked.

Fast forward a little way more and it's Christmas. Sylvia buys Serenity for her brother, and the box set for another family member, and her brother buys Serenity for her!

Now here's the beauty part: Darren is Sylvia's brother-in-law. So he's observing all this and decides to see for himself what all the hype is about. So they watch the eps on the first disk, and Serenity.

The capper is that I went online today and Darren's Google Talk quote is now "I swallowed a bug." Hah! Can't stop the signal, indeed.
