i got an ornament w/ firefly design and a pillow from tcm's site saying WWJD: what would joss do? other than that, a set of hitchcock dvds and some filmmaking books, and the wonderful gift of having the kids shut up when they played with their presents. jk

"The people who made the show, and the people who saw the show, which is roughly the same number of people, fell in love with it, a little bit too much to let it go, too much to lay down arms when when the battle looked pretty much lost. In Hollywood, people like that are called unrealistic, quixotic, obsessive... In my world, they're called Browncoats."

Congrats on the health, Chrisisall!

Let's see...

I got the Mercenary Jayne action figure (whee! I told Rinny they need to make little Kaylee figures so I can go all 'Darth Helmet' and play out weird little fanfic parodies with them) and the Firefly/Serenity soundtracks!

Very cool.

I also got Amercian Gothic on DVD, a ruby pendant, some clothes and a picnic hamper. I'm very spoilt.

I got a pulled muscle in my back from lifting big heavy things on Saturday and an empty wallet from paying too many bills with too few dollars. It’s the gift that keeps on giving (grief) and that I wish I could return…

Sorry if this dampens your Christmas spirit…

But you're still flying, eh?
Tore me loose a collerbone some months back, docs said nuthin' they could do, so I manage (just no push-ups, EVER).
The Christmas Spirit prevails, in any case, even on the raggedy edge.

Peace to you, GunRunner. And hoping you got a widescreen version of Serenity, at least.

For some reason I got a lot of sweaters in various colors this year.

On the real shiny side I got myself a silver firefly charm (OK,it's really a dragonfly but it'll pass). Also got a Chinese character necklace for myself and one Serenity necklace for my daughter made by Jesse Clark-White.

Also BSG season one (seems ok but it's not Firefly) and my daughter got 2 complete season one copies of LOST-one from me and one from the ex.

I might not be flying very far since I'm almost 'out of gas'. Alow me to quote a post I made on another forum:

I can’t wait till my friend comes back from deployment overseas and gives his kids a hot a$$. They couldn't wait till tomorrow- my dad works 4 miles away, but nooo they had to have it now!

Does wishing physical harm to children on Christmas make me a bad person? Seriously these kids got it coming, his son ran me over with one of those powerwheel trucks once.

Oh and I doubt I will be getting any new DVDs till February…

A surprising lack of Firefly paraphenalia (considering how much I've been trying to sell the show to friends and family). Hopefully I made some converts w/ BDM and Firefly series gifts given out tho'.

Did get a great set of Kurosawa dvd's and a couple of good books. As to any negative, gotta go w/ Chrisis'...had a good day, still flyin'.

I got and gave Serenity. Also, some smarty pants books and...doll clothes. Yep. I loves em. I am 26 and last year my favorite cousin got me an American Girl's doll I desperately wanted as a child and never got, and now everyone gets me her acessories. That's what Christmas gifts should be, useless expensive trinkets for your inner child. Though I wouldn't mind the Buffy Chosen Collection. Sigh.

CYBERSNARK

Gifts tend to suck in my family. None of us actually knows each other, so all our gifts tend to be gift certificates (often to stores that we don't go to), money, socks, and practical stuff (bottles of shampoo, travel packages of kleenex, a new toothbrush, a couple of pens, etc).

'Course, might also have to do with the fact that my family's centred around Cornwall, with its lack of. . . well, anything.

The best gifts I got were a couple of gift cards from Blockbuster (which we have in town) and Coles/Indigo/Chapters (which we don't [*]), a keychain that actually works (my old one was starting to come unspooled; keys would slip between the coils and get stuck in odd directions).

(*) Well, we have a Coles, but they don't actually make the effort to carry anything. Crappy service too (friend who once worked there said their policy is to not help the customers).

I seem to be the only one in the family who actually puts thought into stuff (don't just mean gifts, but even just general "reading instructions" type stuff [I'm allergic to nuts. I've had my mom give me boxes of candy that say "NUTS" on the front in big block letters that she just didn't notice]).

Gifts I gave:
Serenity DVD to my (semi-Browncoat) cousin and her (SF-loving) family.
A model car to the other cousin, who sold me my new car.
Serenity DVD to a friend in Ottawa (haven't actually given it yet, since we won't see each other 'til January --plus it's fullscreen, and I want to see if I can find a widescreen instead).
A book on the Canadian military to a co-worker who's interested in Canadian politics/history.

Ohh!
Here's wishing to health to those that came down with the various ailments of the season!
And here's to those who did good deads this Christmas, even if they weren't appreciated!

My family is afraid to get me anything Highlander, LOTR or Firefly, because they don't know what I've already got, so that's no surprise. Although my aunt sent me the Two Towers Aragorn action figure! YAY!

Shallow of me, but the best I gift I recieved was actually money. My mom gave me the money to pay for my trip to Scotland in March! I'm...flabbergasted. Overwhelmed. She said I deserved to have a vacation without stressing over it.
So yah, Merry Christmas to all!

I got Serenity! I've already seen the special features and the movie with Joss' commentary.

I got all 3 of the comic books too!

I got books, DVD box sets (not Firefly, already have that), some spending money, stuff for my trip to Italy, and a $25 gift card to Dunn Bros. Coffee (there's one 2 blocks from my High School, so I walk there sometimes).

Funny you should ask, Chrisisall, because I actually got a shiny Buddha , and a "Chinese Wishing Well" ( you write what you want on a tiny piece of paper, and insert it into the well, it's a kinda prayer) and my copy of the BDM ( my most favorite gift!) and everyone ( especially my Mom) are healthy and we were blessed with lots of good food and a wonderful time. Oh and I also got a Chinese necklace with the sign for the year of my birth on it ( the adventurous rooster! lol)

GIXXER

Mrs G, bless her, was on the point of slaughtering me noisily because of the "having been married for a long time, pretty much having everything I need and being generally unhelpful about what sort of prezzies I wanted" thing.

On pain of socks, I had an upgrade. Replaced my VHS Babylon 5s and got shiny new DVDs of the entire series.

Incidentally, if you have had to endure Christmas music in shops since about August, and something has really been bugging you, can I say:
Bing Crosby. Commander Jeffrey Sinclair.

What else? Ultraviolet. Never saw that before. Pretty damn good.

Never an ultra-keen (old) Dr Who fan, I was given The Talons of Weng-Chiang. You know when you revisit something from your yoof, and it really sucks? Not this time. Tom Baker looked like he was having a great time. Leela getting away with killing a lot more villains than you'd see in primetime these days. Even the sets were less wobbly than usual.

She'd do well in the 'verse, because of her attitude to baddies. Harsh and terminal. Extremely attractive, too. She played the role absolutely straight and had some good scenes with the pathologist (who was utterly beguiled by her), whether doing an Eliza Doolittle on tea-drinking etiquette or matter-of-factly discussing knife-fighting techniques.

G

Copper: "Good evening, sir. Do you know this young female, sir?"

L (interrupting): "Oh, yes, yes. We were attacked by this little man and four other little men."

Cop: "When I got here, sir, he was being strangled with his own pigtail."

Doctor (huge grin): "Really? Girlish enthusiasm, officer?"

I ended up in the emergency ward. I managed to gouge my finger while cutting the price off of my parent's present....

My husband gave me the most beautiful tunic - a real "you really know me" present and my mother-in-law gave me an entirely "you don't know me but WOW" cashere and silk jacket - I don't care - I'll convert to her shopping god!

The kids were great at both grandparents' homes - what more could I ask for?

Converted 2 more folks to Serenity....talked it up in line at Borders!

Have a merry merry all!

I got myself a nice browncoat that I'd seen at Banana republic (reccomended by browncoats here). Its awesome. I plan to wear it alot in the cold weather this winter.

Also got my copy of Serenity and the novelization. Might have to buy a copy for my parents before I leave. I've gotten them hooked on the series (though they'll be sad in two more episodes when its over)

I got my mom a Widescreen Serenity DVD (and one for myself and a Serenity theater poster ).

I didn't recive much, due to familys lack of greenbacks, but some of it was pretty good , I got a CD called Born Not To Run- a collection of amusing Automobile songs put together by Click & Clack, those mechanical wizards on Nat. Public Radio. I also got a new shiny (literaly) watch to replace my old Casio calculator watch that I had worn every day since I was in first grade (24/7 since 1989, more than alittle scratched up). You know the old sayin': "What time is it when your watch reads 82:12 P.M.? Answer:Time to get a new watch"

I can't beat you in the realm of disease, all that I got was a cold, but that let me hear the words, "If I catch your cold I'm killing your sister," which perfectly rational and totally in line with cause and effect are just plain fun.

I had forgotten how bad a cold could be, when you're coughing up peices of your lungs (ok just stuff from your lungs, not actual pieces) it can really hurt. I’ve walked miles (down a mountain) on a sprained ankle, broken two arms and had individual grains of sand pulled out of a gash in my foot one at a time with tweezers over a period of weeks. So when I say something can really hurt I mean it can really hurt. (Someone will outdo me by a lot, I’m sure they will.)

For those of you I have not driven away I got Serenity, fullscreen though, Finding Serenity, Serenity The Official Visual Companion, Coca-Cola paraphernalia, and a coat. I did really well this year. (The coat, though not a browncoat, is brown.)

Well, I got a broken heart. And the knowledge that the man I fell hard for and had become my best friend "thought" he loved me too, but as the newness of the relationship wore off (as happens in every relationship) after about and a year and a half into the relationship, he got to rethinking everything, however never told me any of this and continued to lead me on for another year and a half as I gave of my mind, heart, body, and soul to him. Makes me feel used.

I've said this before...crying silently in your office sucks.

Did spend Christmas with my family and had a good time with them. And a friend took me to see King Kong to help lift my spirits. It was a good flick, and I enjoyed it.
