Dratted penguins!

Oh, Imagine having the two of 'em in the top spots, some suit would have to take notice!

BEAUTIFUL!

And yes, stupid penguins who can't even stay home, but have to cart their poor young 80 miles? What kind of parents are those?
GAH!

Okay, I'm really peeved.
Amazon just sent a shipping confirmation saying my dvd would arrive January 4th!!!!!!
With a three week pre-order and 2nd day shipping??????? WTF?????

I just called everywhere in our small town asking if they had it. Uh. No.
"Uh, why not?"
"Didn't know it would be this popular."

Actually, response at Rite-Aid was "God no. I wish!"

So. I'm driving the friggin' hour to Wal-Mart tonight. Forget this!

Amazon's shipping estimates are for if it were to take the most time at the slowest possible route. Amazon said delivery after Christmas for my orders as well and my brother's DVD has already arrived at my mom's house and my box of 5 DVDs is scheduled to arrive tommorrow acording to UPS.

But even if they shipped two day TODAY, which is according to their shipping confirmation, I won't have them in time for Christmas.
Pisses me off.
Ah, well. We all know Amazon is just a giant publisher screwing rottweiller. Should have known better than to trust them with something like this.

Yeah, Amazon's delivery dates are always ridiculously conservative; don't even bother with them.

If your order was shipped today (Thursday), I'd say you're probably okay (but don't hold me to that!). I've gotten a few different things from Amazon this month, always with the free shipping option, which is theoretically the slowest, and received them 2-3 days after the e-mail notification - they're very good about speedy delivery around X-mas. My copy of the BDM was shipped on Monday, and arrived on Wednesday.

I wish they would put this more into perspective. I know that Amazon is a massive DVD seller, but what does being number one mean (other than the obvious). Has it sold 10,000? 20,000? I'm afraid we won't know, since the studio is pretty tight lipped about these things.

On another note, I was at Target tonight in Milwaukee, and they were down to their last four copies. Putting that in perspective, their Serenity selection consisted of 1 row, with 7 bays. Each bay contained 4 copies. Not bad considering it looked like it was outselling everything else they had.

"The last thing I want is that any of our descendents should look back in some years and despise us for not daring to act when we had so much capacity to act. We must dare to seek how, why and on what we agree. We shall thus be able to join together to look for alternative solutions and new ways of managing the world's challenges. Being diverse is our richness, acting together will be our strength". (Federico Mayor; 02-04-01;

Here's some perspective: My wife went to Best Buy (we live right outside baltimore, MD so it's a big store) and they had sold out of SERENITY. When she got to Target, there were only 3 copies left. This was for a co-worker. We, of course, bought ours on Tuesday.

YES!!!!!#3!!!!!!!!! This has got to be a big rutting red flag for Universal saying "make another one, and they will buy. Lots"

1 penguin down, 1 to go. Snipers?

And Firefly was cancelled 3 YEARS AGO! Yet, it's #3, beating out the 'hits' of the holiday season. Merry Christmas Browncoats, you big damn heroes, you.

Hell, yeah! I've heard so many reports of sold out stores, lines, and slow orders. Just tonight my wife and her friend (who we converted) went to get Serenity for her brother for Christmas. They got the next to last copy!! This has got to be doing something for the numbers--if nothing else, it has to be showing Universal the size of the audience...

Hold the valley, Browncoats! We can do this!

With so many copies sold in little Cheyenne, Wyoming, there has to be more than just browncoats buying. Maybe the fan campaign worked better than we thought. They just wanted to wait for the DVD?

OH WE WILL HOLD THE VALLEY! THE VALLEY WILL BE OURS!

I work at BOTH Best Buy and Blockbuster, i know it seems weird, but they dont mind lol, we are SOLD OUT at Blockbuster and have been rented out since Tuesday, and every time a copy comes is returned it gets checked out within 10 minutes (although we only got 13 copies at my blockbuster, because Universal hates us since we dont pay our bills) and at Best Buy as of yesterday we were sold out with a new shipment supposedly coming in on saturday, a shipment DOUBLE the size of what we put out Tuesday, so id say we are holding the valley pretty damn well right now, but i think we need to have a browncoats meeting...perhaps at ohhh say UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!

I don't see what politics or religion has to do with penguins or our BDM. Anyway... I'm just glad to see Serenity doing so well.

I tell ya... the Firefly franchise is just beginning to take off. Today, on a car forum I frequent, a guy who I don't really talk to that much (and who I never mentioned Firefly or Serenity to) started a new thread about his new favorite movie. It is, of course, our BDM.

I got a very similar kind of response when the topic came up about Jayne possibly becoming a Shepherd in either a movie sequel or a return of the series. I didn't get preachy or try to make any conversions, I just mentioned in my response to the thread about how the Apostle Paul was once a very violent man himself before he got his calling, and that it wouldn't be impossible to believe that Jayne could get a calling of his own. Within the first response I was told that what I was refering to was "traditional propaganda".

If this forum has a "no Christians allowed" policy, the mods can just tell me and I'll disappear. I'm not here to get my beliefs shit-talked by some self-righteous jerks with an axe to grind...

Anyway, back on topic...glad to see the BDM selling so well! I went down to Wal-Mart on the release day and bought two copies myself. I noticed that Serenity was placed out with all the other new releases, and it's numbers seemed to be dwindling while all the other movies were well stocked. It could be a case of more copies showing up of these other movies, but I like to think that this was a case of Serenity selling better. Time will tell...

I'm guessing there are lot of people who don't go to theaters anymore for whatever reason. One reason might be expense. For example, a family 3 or 4 might need to spend $30-40 just for movie tickets, add parking and food and that's another $30-40.

A dvd cost $20, add drinks, microwave popcorn and pizza and total is still half of the going to the theater. Plus you can see it again at no additional cost.

So basically I'm thinking that the DVD has attracted a new audience, leading to new Firefly sales.

Ignorant question: does Universal make the same amount regardless of what Amazon is selling the DVD for? Because I'm a little confused why Amazon would offer their number 1 selling DVD for $13.

BTW, I'm also a Christian. But I figure that I will just let people vent. I certainly can't blame them for the dim view they hold of Christians, what with folks like Pat Robertson running around. I do have to take exception to the outright bashing of Christians and Christian ideas (e.g. the "traditional propaganda" comment). I have every bit the right to express my opinion as everyone else, and it's no less rude to bash a Christian than anyone else.

hey hey hey, there was no hate, I was saying it as a numbers thing, what makes you think I'm not a christian? what makes you think I don't like penguins?

I'm sorry you thought I was being intolerant, I really wasn't. saying someone's a christian isn't an insult and if you take it that way you must have had some bad experiences so I'm sorry for you but don't include me in it.
