I was waiting in line and almost everybody had Serenity in their hands...I actually got one of the last copies...and before I saw a guy getting BSG2.0 and I go "you know you get $10 off if..." and he cuts me off and shows me Serenity....

I got a warm feeling

Good job Browncoats!

I bought my copy at Target yesterday. They seemed to have more copies of it on the shelves than any other of the other new releases, which looked fairly depleated. This worried me until the guy stocking the shelves said, "Please don't tell me you want "Firefly" too, 'cause we're all out. Serenity is selling so fast I gave up and put out the whole lot because I was sick of re-stocking them every few minutes."

Squeeee!!

This is the news that will get a sequel! I only hope that my parents got a copy (I've been begging them for it for Christmas ever since the rumor of the Dec. 20th release date).

I picked up 2 copies yesterday at my local Best Buy here near Atlanta. I was sad to see it wasn't on display at first... but was lucky and excited to get the last 2 copies.

I'm glad it's selling well. I plan on buying a few more copies to give as gifts as well. Gogogo Browncoats!

Wow. It really was the most brilliant idea ever to release Serenity before Christmas. I worried that it was because it wasn't doing well in theaters but I can see why they might've kept this release date even if it exploded at the BO.

tey had three copies left at ym local target yesterday. and two copies for PSP. which i thought was mighty shiney. At best buy some guy was holding it and looking then looking at the cover and i was like "that movies awesome" and he was like "really? thanks, and walked away with it in hand"

I also tell everyone at work at barnes and nobles who buys anything in any way scifi that the movie is awesome!

At a Best Buy in Oklahoma City yesterday morning less than an hour after it opened. I noticed that they had more racks of Serenity on display than any other movie. I believe it was 5 rows of 4 about 5 movies deep. A good chunk of these were already gone with at least 3 or 4 gaps where all you could see was shelf. So either they hadn't restocked the shelves that morning or more likely Serenity is truely going to have a baby sister.

Let me share something that irritated me.... I work in the King Of Prussia Plaza in Pennsylvania (Whose official state insect is the Firefly, by the way....Jealous much? I'm gonna have to do a post for that) I point out the mall because it is world renown for its size and scope...Anyway I went to 4 different places on the 16th to preorder our BDM on UMD for PSP. 2 game stores, 2 music stores and NO ONE was getting ANY in.... Now this confused me, not because I'm a Serenity fan... But because I am aware of its Amazon ranking... But hey, they got in Sandlot 1 and 2 as well as brothers Grimm, but no BDM... (pissed me off) My final stop, an FYE was getting in just one UMD copy. JUST ONE!!!! so I reserved it for my very own and was pleased... until I walked and thought, "This is one of the biggest Gorram Malls in the world! There is only One copy of Serenity on UMD? This is not helping us browncoats... where are the sales by sight?, the impulse purchases? the sales to people that are S.O.L. EVEN SEARCHING FOR IT?" Our numbers could be higher if it wernt for....well you know.

GrayFury,

Well, you were looking for a UMD. I imagine most people don't carry UMDs of not-well known movies considering that most people don't shell out $250 for a portable Playstation. That doesn't concern me much.

Got my broth-in-law a copy at Best-Buy, and then went to target for something else. Saw Serinity on display by Firefly. Thats really cool because the tragets here didn't even carry Firefly when it first came out two years ago. Hope that means more people are buying that as well. at best Buy they didn't have them in the Action or sci-Fi section...and getting a little nervous I asked a sales girl who said they were in the new release section and commenting that I was "like the 100th person to ask me that." Though I'm sure 100 is a slight exageration, I'm glad to know people are buying them. Any idea on where we can check DVD sales? I mean total not just Amazon.

Just got back from the Wal-mart supercenter here...battling the crowds to get those last few gifts and I strolled by the DVD section to see how many were left...

One single widescreen copy. The rest were fullscreen, but who wants those?

I mean, this is one of those superstores with rows and rows of the same movies and all the Serenity was gone. Several empty slots where our heroes were placed.

Me thinks if this keeps up, we'll get our big damn sequel...

I don't have good news here, but I live in such a small and crappy place it is inconsequential. Every store I went to had tons of copies of Serenity just sittin' there...nobody here cares. The only theater within 35 minutes of me cut Serenity before it had even been in the theater for 2 weeks.

Oh, another strike against where I live, most stores around here don't even carry many widescreen copies of movies because the vast majority of people here prefer fullscreen.

I got BSG 2.0 + Serenity + $10 off deal, though...so I'm happy ;D

Could Shrek 2 happen to Serenity!?! Shrek 2 did far better at the box office than the original, the major contributing factor to this was dvd sales of the first Shrek movie. Based on anecdotal reports (read here) and on facts (#1 at amazon, firefly at #5) is it possible that a Serentiy sequel could do 4-6 times what the original did at the box office? Yes true believers that would be a 100 million plus at the box office! (in Des Moines alone)...little Joss humor there......anyhow Merry Christmas! Yeah Mal, it's Christmas.

Went to my local Target last night, and was pleased to see a good chunk of the Serenity DVD had been purchased. It was displayed in the main aisle (which there were only 3-5 left and only 1 UMD copy there). In the back wall, where all the DVDs are, there were a quite a few, but it looked like people still grabbed it from there as well. Then went by the TV DVD aisle, and there were a good 6 copies of Firefly, which I have never even seen at this Target before.

I'm liking our chances for movie 2 about now.

Just came back from the mall (dear god in heaven!) and while I was there, stopped over at Suncoast to look if they had Wonderfalls on DVD, and to check in Serenity and Firefly.

No boxsets of Firefly, which either means they never stock it, or its sold out. But since they had almost every other TV show on DVD there, I want to believe the latter. As for Serenity, there were a total of 2 left, for $24. Pricey, yes, but they were nearly wiped out! So there I was standing there looking at the Buffy Chosen collection, and this guy is reading the back of the Serenity DVD. Not wasting the moment, I chimed in that he should get it, because its a really good movie. He asked me if I saw it, andI said yes. Then he pondered that for a moment.

And he left the store with it.

Checked two Blockbusters today...all rented out. First Blockbuster 1 shelf empty. 2 for sale.
Second Blockbuster 3 shelves (12 copies) empty 1 for sale. And while I was there, the trailer for Serenity played . I asked them to check and see if any Serenity had been returned and none had.

I was waiting at Walmart at Midnight to get Serenity right away. I made the guy open all the boxes to find it--then all they had was Full Screen, so he had to go to the back room to find the REAL version. He brought it out and I thanked him whole-heartedly. He seemed a bit confused by my zeal to buy this movie 2 minutes after it became available for purchse, and finally he said, "I'm never actually heard of this movie."
I smiled and said, "Oh, you'll be hearing a lot about it now, a lot."
Okay, enough talk, I need to go watch it again :)

I bought mine at Best Buy the day it came out. They seemed to be selling good. I noticed Firefly was no where to be found. I had seen it in that store before, but they had no copies of it this time.

The one thing that bothered me was on the Serenity DVD, there was a sticker saying you get $10 off if you buy GB as well. But on the BG DVDs, there was no sticker saying you get the same deal when buying Serenity! We're loosing a little advertising there don't ya think?!

Everyone keeps saying, Fullscreen, who buys those anymore? I do! I don't have a bigscreen TV so I bought the Full Screen version for now and I bought a Widescreen version for when I can afford a decent big screen TV. I figure in another 6 months to a year the prices on the 48" to 52" screens will come down to a reasonable level for someone in my income bracket. Still haven't decided whether I should go LCD or Plasma. Hear that both have their drawbacks. Anyone here care to comment on that. Which do you think is best? BTW, widescreen IS the better format but on my 27" TV with these old eyes it just gets too hard to see all the details. Maybe if I hit the lottery soon I can buy a big screen earlier and move to a state with a higher Browncoat population. Not many Browncoats here in Indiana it seems. Met a few but not that many. Merry Christmas all!

BAH! I watch 16:9 on my 20" Computer monitor all the time...its the only way to watch movies, Pan&Scam is the worst consumer product ever invented (besides Bose and Monster cables)...anyways, Don't go plasma...for the same amount of money you can get a much better quality LCD/DLP/LCOS set...Plasma just isn't here yet. The sets only last a few years and then they're pretty much useless. They become so dim that you can't even watch them. Now with LCD/DLP/LCOS, you can just replace the bulb and be back on your way.

We just got a Panasonic PT-AE900U LCD Projector and I've been watching Firefly at 130" ;)Makes movie-time a lot more fun...and the projector was only $2k! Dirt cheap for what you get...anyways, stay away from Plasma...its truly not worth it

thanks for the info on the plasma, Lax101. I agree pan and scan really stinks but like I said if I'm sitting in my recliner my tv is just too far away to view widescreen movies and see the detail. If I sit closer it's ok but then I'm being bombarded by radiation :-) I'll check out the LCD/DLP/LCOS sets. Didn't think of the LCD projector option. I used to work for Advent Corp. who pioneered big screen projection television and still makes stereo speaker systems but back then in the early 70's the screen image was really dim and the sharpness wasn't there yet. Technology has made some huge strides in the last 3 decades.

Serious question (hope it's okay to temporarily derail the thread): LAX01, I've never been a big fan of Bose either, but what's the problem you have with Monster cables? Are they substandard in some way? Just overpriced? I'm curious -- like to know what I'm missing.

Here in Fargo, I've only checked two stores. Walmart had some copies in a few places, but the big boxes where they display all of their new releases were all gone except for some fullscreen versions. Best Buy had a few more copies that I would have liked to have seen, but they might have gotten a new shipment in. Why do I say this? Because I was just there a few days ago and they had about 12 copies of Firefly on the shelf (they've been restocking since the movie hit theaters. prior to that, they normally stocked about 3 on the shelves), but when I was there yesterday, those 12 copies were down to 3. I'm sure not everyone who buys the movie also buys the series. So i saw this as a good sign, especially here. I also saw a number of people with Serenity in hand at Walmart. One guy was explaining to someone that it was based off a canceled series, but had such a following that it got a movie. The guy I know who works at Best Buy wasn't working yesterday, so I didn't get to ask him if he knew how well they were selling. I'm just glad to be hearing all of this news about it selling well.

Maybe I'm just a purist, but I couldn't even watch the Fullscreen version of Serenity. My mother bought it for me at Sams on accident, because I didn't specify Widescreen (I didn't even know there WAS a seperate version instead of a pre-movie option). I opened it up to see if I could handle it and I just couldn't. I saw the movie four times in theaters, and I could tell I was missing what felt like half of the screen. On some movies it's not too bad, but with Serenity it was completely noticeable. Just my personal preference, but the Widescreen is really just perfect, even on a smaller screen. :)

Aaaahh, well... Guess I'll have to support the cause and buy the widescreen as well!

Serious question (hope it's okay to temporarily derail the thread): LAX01, I've never been a big fan of Bose either, but what's the problem you have with Monster cables? Are they substandard in some way? Just overpriced? I'm curious -- like to know what I'm missing.

Thanks.

Substandard? no. Overpriced? VERY.

Acoustic Research makes the same quality product for half the price. I highly suggest them. I've also started using a Chinese brand called NXG...I have their HDMI and subwoofer cable and they are also high-quality (for the money)

I just watched the first half of the BSG mini-series on the new screen, and I cannot be happier...its amazing watching tv at 92" :)
