On christmas day I say "merry christmas" to folks. Before then I usually wish them "happy holidays" figuring that includes new year (or any other celebrations that aply. BTW holiday is an evolution of "holy day", and I take offense at people trying to take away the holy-day (i.e. christmas...oh wait, wasn't that the original complaint...damn, :) ).

For others in the US, I like the Daily Show's bit last year, talking about christmas as a national holiday...a time for christians to rejoice the birth of christ and for everyone else to reflect on the separation of church and state.

So, to all Browncoats (both practicing and non), a very Happy Festivus.

Ah. I've been up since 3:30 this morning, had to take my son to the airport. He's flying down to Florida to spend the holidays with his mother. I've got the 2nd of January off, and that's the day I go back to pick him up. It's about an hour each way from here to the nearest city with a real airport.

A friend is driving me tomorrow and she's picking me up at 4:45am. Which means I'll probably be having the same sort of day you're having today. I'll be getting up around 3:30, too.

But, yay!, I'm going ice skating with friends tomorrow afternoon!

You may have not meant an offense, but you did manage to call all officers "bastards". No matter... no offense taken on my part. You must have had some bad experience that you're venting about, so I can't hold that against you.

Really though, officers do not get any more respect than the enlisted folk, at least out in the civilian world. My wife's parents were both enlisted US marines, and I have tremendous respect for them.

And now, back on topic... Merry Christmas everyone!

All in good fun, all in good fun. I'm probably not well-known enough to start heaving around words like "bastard" in jest (not yet, leastways). I did know plenty of good officers in the Navy (in fact, it was an officer who had the most impact both on my career and personally, besides). My only point is that in my experience (in the Navy anyhow), good officers are quite rare. They're taught to look at us enlistedmen as almost subhuman (and they treat us accordingly). In the main, that is.

Wow...enough parentheticals in there?

You know how there are those people who are 'offended' at having the Christian-ness of Christmas 'forced on them' just by people saying "Merry Christmas" to them?

Easy solution: tell them you're being pagan instead. The christians stole the whole festival from them, after all...

So Merry Christmas it is - people just need to suck it up.

Against my better judgement: the way things are going, we're more likely to be in the position of having to say "Merry Christmas" or else be arrested.

Rel, great good luck with the new career direction, buddy!

It's a total ghost town here at the lab today. I might have taken today off (as opposed to next Tuesday), but for a deliverable that was supposed to be due to a customer today. Heh. He decided at the last minute to make major changes in the design, and let on the due date was just arbitrary, so it's been slipped. Just as well, no way in the 'verse it'd have been done today with all the changes.

The fandamily's all in town now, from as far afield as Boston and Toronto. We're supposed to descend on some unsuspecting restaurant this evening for food, drink and merriment. Ought to be fun!
