From Whedonesque;

All right, now I have to jump in and set the record straight. EW is a fine rag, but they do take things out of context. Obviously when I said I had 'closure', what I meant was "I hate Serenity, I hated Firefly, I think my fans are stupid and Nathan Fillion smells like turnips." But EW's always got to put some weird negative spin on it. But so we're clear once and for all: If you read a quote saying "I'd love to do more in this 'verse with these actors in any medium" all I'm saying is that Nathan has a turnipy odor. It's not his fault, he doesn't eat a lot of them but everyone else in the cast noticed it and tht's not really something I'm prepared to deal with any more. And Jewel said outright she wouldn't do scenes with him except stuff like the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER funeral scene which was outside in a high SPOILER wind. So if I do manage to find another incarnation for my beloved creation, it will have been totally against my will.

I hope that clears everything up. Oh, and when I say I want to do a Spike movie, it means I have a bunion on my toe.

That much is clear, I still can't make sense of this "Fillion smells"-stuff What point is made here telling this ironic story? (if there is a point at all)

I'm incredibly pissed off at EW right now. So many sites are reporting the death of Firefly and it's just not true! This is going to damage the fanbase :(

Bah.
You think one stupid EW article full of misquotes is going to back off Browncoats?
I say it won't happen.

I was thinking more of the potential fanbase. We know the Firefly DVDs are still selling like hotcakes, how many people might be put off if they think the franchise is dead? Every fan counts.

Well, they're dummies.

Seriously, we just have to keep getting the word out that Firefly still has a beating heart. Joss has obviously not given up, and it's up to us to make sure that everyone hears that.

Browncoats were determined and faithful, and not giving up LONG before I even learned of Firefly. (For which I am eternally grateful!)

New fans won't be turned off by one dissy article, and the ones who won't even give it a chance just because it's been cancelled, well, it's really their loss, isn't it?

Suppose for a moment that this is all true. Sort of. In a Mal kind of way.

I would love if this was all a ruse to buy back the rights from Fox. A few well placed comments in major publications about Joss not wanting to revive the show or the movie, and Fox realizes that they have a property on their hands worth nothing now. Someone comes by and says, "Let me take that off your hands, that now worthless property of yours.", and Fox sells it. Then, the mask comes off, and it's Joss!! Fox executives, in a stinging bit of irony cry, "Curse your sudden, but inevitable betrayal!", and we get our show back!

OK, I'm reaching a bit.

I'm not letting go, regardless if it's true or not (which I don't think it is). Flan For Life baby!

"The last thing I want is that any of our descendents should look back in some years and despise us for not daring to act when we had so much capacity to act. We must dare to seek how, why and on what we agree. We shall thus be able to join together to look for alternative solutions and new ways of managing the world's challenges. Being diverse is our richness, acting together will be our strength". (Federico Mayor; 02-04-01;

Reading that blog-tracker was a hard swallow.

The only proper way to combat the misimpression that JW has written off FF/S is to persuade the nice folk at EW that a corrective re-interview or clarification is in order. Let's hope JW is working on that. If anyone is sweet enough to accomplish it, he is.

If the bloggers who quoted EW as to the death of the show are still alive, still blogging, and still paying attention to EW, some of them might be expected to comment once again when something positive comes out.

In the mean time, getting nasty is more damaging than anything else, so let us be merry and festive and all that.

Turnips? Naw. Parsnips. But add a little eau de carotte and it's quite tempting. (drools)

It's too early to tell, but there's a rumor that Universal talked about it.
It's pretty possible if Serenity's DVD sales are just as kick ass as Firefly or even more.

I wonder if the timing of all this was planned... I see two possibilites:

A (the negative one)
This just might be the best marketing strategy to sell a DVD I've ever seen. They gave the "EW-panic" time to take effect - and suddenly Joss jumps in to save the day.

B (the positive one)
Universal and Joss are really suprised by the huge demand on the DVDs and Joss didn't like what EW did.

Regardless of which is true - we should keep our heads clear in any case.

Everyone seems pretty upset about that little article at the beginning of EW, but I'm more pissed off about what comes towards the end of the magazine in the dvd review by Dalton Ross. He says that the bad news about the film is the story line and that its like a bottom shelf Schwarzenegger flick. The nicest thing he said about is that it was freewheeling! I'm a diehard Browncoat, but even I had my doughts when I first saw the movie. It easily was at the very insane least an A while Dalton just gives it a B. I personally give it an A+. EW gives Joss products good coverage, but then they go on to tell it's readers that Serenity is only as good as Dark Water and not as good as lesser sci-fi such as Harsh Realm & Farscape. Like the good Shepherd Book might say, "Coming from you EW, that means almost nothing."
