Hello,

First - blasted tragedy the best science fiction television show to come along in eons gets cancelled after only a handful of episodes. I didn't discover Firefly until I saw the movie last summer and can't believe this show never got more press. Can't surf channels without seeing ads for that stupid NBC underwater monster show or the weak Battlestar Galactica remake...how did this show go undiscovered by so many?

Anyway, was excited as hell to get my hands on the Complete Series DVD - but my damned DVD player won't play it. Have a Cyberhome HDMI enabled DVD player (she wadn't cheap!) - will show the FBI Warnings and then locks up - nothing! Have a less expensive model that plays it okay. Anybody else have any issues with the DVD (of the series, not the movie)???

Weak battlestar Galactica remake? Are you kidding? The new BSG is better than the old one, and i really like it a lot. Have you watched them all?

i have two copies of serenity in my car right now (i'm at my last day of classes, had to skip out for a minute to get them )

anyways, i read this thread title and had a heart attack. i thought there was a problem with the serenity dvds. but no, it's somebody having trouble getting their firefly dvds to work, and since mine work fine, i can go relax.

phew, close one.

oh yeah, ummm, yeah, i don't know what's wrong with your dvd player and/or dvds.

Yeah, you might want to rephrase your thread title. Especially today!

If the other player is playing them fine, I'd say that your Cyberhome player is the problem.

I've played mine on a LOT of different players and have no problems at all.

Lol, yeah it is much better. In fact I never watched it because all I could think of was the horror that was the original, and didn't want to be disapointed. My brother finally lent me the DVD's and said watch them. Must say it is a good series.
Hmmmm... Sci-Fi channel double header... Battlestar and Firefly!

Watched all of season one and two - yeah, I enjoy watching them (in fact, I own both seasons on DVD), but it's a gimmick show, Top Gun in space, a "remake.". Fun, some cool elements and a few interesting characters, but nothing new. Firefly is the most imaginative and unique science fiction I've seen in ages, maybe ever. I would take three seasons of Firefly over BG any day of the week.

And damn my DVD player. It also has issues with some of my X-Files DVD's! Must not like SciFi, e-bay anyone?

As we used to tell customers at Circuit City: if even one machine plays the disk, the fault lies within the machine that won't, or it's settings.

Thanks for the info. Paid a lot of money for the player and it gives me fits with certain DVD's (like LOST), but others it plays flawlessly. I got it because it had HDMI and works well with my surround sound, but if it won't play all my DVD's, the what is the point?

Is it wrong to miss the days of VHS, sure they were lower quality, but never had this many issues with my old VCR.

IMO, stick with simple stuff. I have a panasonic and philips dvd players, low end, capable of anything but progressive scan. Never given me a day of trouble. They even play Hong Kong dvd's, which my computer can't!!!

And if you think YOUR dvd player is cranky, wait 'till the blue ray players come out! No more pop-in-and-watch!!

To the original poster, the problem with the Cyberhome hdmi player is mostly a firmware issue with the Firefly menu's. You can go to cyberhome's website, go to the support part and email them. They should send you a CD rom to upgrade the firmware.

It should help, but there might still be a couple of episodes that could give you problem. If you are still within your return period for that player, you might want to return it and buy either a dvd player with HDMI from Panasonic, Samsung, or Oppo.

I have a CyberHome player also, long ago the company sent me firmware. Now, this helped the original problem I had. But, I am still having issues with Firefly DVDs.

I asked Santa for a new DVD player. Let's hope what is sitting under my tree come Christmas morning isn't a CyberHome.

Just bin it and get anything by Toshiba. As Niska would say, "Repootation ees solid" Mine's been faultless. Got it a while back from PRC in Ilford, ready hacked to play Yankee Imperialist running dog discs.

I quite like VHS. Just bought a Sony 4-headed one for pennies because they are apparently such dead ducks.

I'll get a DVD recorder when one or the other breaks. Some day.

As for the new BSG, I think it suffers a bit from the Perennial Bad Guy Problem. Baltar in it every bloody week*, betraying all and sundry and not only continually getting away with it, but nobody having the tiniest clue. Cathy Bradford all over again, but less fun.

Now that your parameters have been redefined, you just end up yelling at the screen for someone, anyone, to just shoot the bugger.

G

*small admission, I've only seen the miniseries, and can't be arsed doing the research, but I'm reasonably certain he's in for the long haul.
