I'm hooked.

I haven't been able to say "Wow" since ... like ... Optimus Prime died or somewhere in that timeframe.

Most original show concept I've seen in a loooooooooong time. This is just the kinda show I've been waiting forever for, and it's looks like I'm late getting onto this bus. (Damn you, World of Warcraft ... :o)

Sorry for being such a noob, but it seems like there aren't any new episodes planned for any definite timeframe ... Am I wrong about this... what's the show's status?

Is it (in all likelihood) dead and is all of this talk an effort to revive it? Or, are they still producing and just running reruns until they have more episodes done? Or is there some known issue that has suspended production for a finite amount of time? I know I could probably find this out for myself with enough forum trolling, but I'm dying to know ASAP.

EDIT: Excellent job in casting too... These guys and gals are truly bringing the (already well-fleshed-out) characters to life.

While I'm on that, whoever came up with this entire universe is a genius. This must be based on a book or something. I haven't seen something so well-detailed and integrated since I read Vernor Vinge's books (and so far, I've only seen the movie and the first episode).

THEREALME

Welcome.

As far as anybody knows, there are no new episodes coming. There are the fourteen episodes available on a DVD boxed set (but 15 television hours, since the first ep "Serenity" is double length) and then the movie just now about to come to DVD (also named "Serenity", so don't be confused).

We can hope for movie sequels if the movie DVD sells well enough.

The show was created by Joss Whendon, who also brought us Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel.

I only needed to read the first half of the title and thought "looks like someone else found the 'verse."

Yeah, Firefly is predictable like that.

Welcome to the bittersweet state that is Firefly fandom (yes, the show's been cancelled by everyone's favourite network, but we got a movie, comics, and the promise of more to come). We have done the impossible, and. . . well, you know the rest.

Grab yourself a brown coat and a seat. Someone'll be along shortly to point you toward the River Tam sessions (a viral marketting thing), and a place where you can buy the comics.

Ugh ... cancelled ... anyone know why?

I remember the ads a while back advertising the series premeire, which probably didn't (and possibly couldn't) do the show justice. But, how could a show of this calibre get cancelled?

Other than the weak ad campaign, the only other problem I could see is the large budget special F/X. If anything, those may be a little too ambitious for a new show, but the creator/producer seems to have a good bit of experience and probably some substantial influence, so, I'm sure he's got that part covered. Then again, I suppose the Star Trek series faced similar issues ... I hope we don't have to wait 20 years for "FireFly: The Next Generation," though. :-O

Speaking of weak advertising ... how could the TV series not be mentioned in conjunction with the movie?? If it weren't for a friend of my who is (probably a die-hard) fan, I wouldn't have known that the Serenity movie was based on a TV show; and I probably would've been pretty confused as to why so much back-story was glanced over in the movie.

I guess I'm just stumped as to what happened? Anyone know?

Welcome to the community! The show was aired on FOX three years ago in a Friday night time slot, shown out of order, preempted, with terrible teasers that did not tell you what the show was about.

Bad marketing, bad executives and just plain bad. Glad you got to see the movie.

Be sure to join a local Browncoat group. They're great fun. We've got a good size group here in New York City.

My guess as to the advertising would be that Fox owns the rights to the series, Universal owns the rights to the movie, and they don't want to play nice.

Ah, yes I can't say as I haven't asked myself that a million times over. It is the best show I have ever seen and I'm aware of the horrible marketing and horrible changes etc etc, and yet there are still this many fans, and more keep coming, Welcome welcome, if you have already watched all the other episodes, go here http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45 to read an unaired ep. Also you should watch the river tam sessions they are crazy good! There are tons of links and sites out there to sate you until we get a sequel *crosses fingers, toes and eyes* But until then tell everyone you know about Firefly and Serenity!!

It's always nice to hear from a convert. I was among the original Browncoats; I watched the show from its first airing. The show was cancelled just when I realized how truly amazing an experience Firefly is. The recent Browncoats did not have to face the show's cancellation; consider yourselves lucky in a way.

I'm actually working on my second and more detailed review of the movie, while I'm eagerly waiting for the DVD. I'm no longer so worried about spoiling anything to anybody.

~dangerously obsessed with BtVS and Angel
