FRIDAYCRIES13

I'm not talking about where the plot would have gone. I'm talking about your devotion of the show. I'm not questioning anyone's devotion, but think about it. If it went on for years and years, would you have still watched every single week? Or would you have missed an episode from time to time? And you've got to admit that it somewhat feels like we're all a part of a secret club (some of us are, ie, the Browncoats). If it was a big hit, would it still feel just a special? And most of all, we wouldn't have Serenity. We might have gotten the plot of it over the course of several episodes, but the testament to the fan's devotion would be gone. It's like Joss said, the movie shouldn't exist. But it does, and that's something.

Believe me, I wish the show was still on. I'd take getting the series back over a new movie any gorram day of the week. But as fans, we've accomplished so much. None of it would have happend without Firefly's cancellation.

Thoughts?

I've seen almost every single episode of 24, Alias and Lost at the original air-dates...I've been following 24 and Alias for 5 seasons (gawd damn)....I think if Firefly was on another night than Friday, then I would have watched it all the way threw to the conclusion.

Oh and I've watched BSG one every Friday night thats its on (which is sometimes hard because Friday at 10 is not exactly a tv watching time

My thoughts,

I would NEVER have missed an episode! I would have forced my family to change the chanel when Firefly was on no matter what was on another chanel! I would have stayed home on friday nights every week to watch! I would feel special knowing that I could talk to more than one or two people here and there about the show!
Also, We'd finally find out WHAT WAS IN INARA'S VIAL.

I would have gotten TIVO just so I wouldn't miss an episode. I've watched and enjoyed Stargate SG-1 and own Seasons 1 through 8 on DVD. I'm not buying Season 9 because now that Richard Dean Anderson is only on it in guest appearances I just don't feel the same about the show anymore. I can't picture Firefly getting stale even after 8 seasons as long as Nathan is still playing Mal and Joss hasn't killed off and replaced the entire crew. There are certain characters I could not stand another actor/actress playing. Mal especially, Zoe, Inara, Jayne and Kaylee. Those five would have to be played by the original actors if they brought the series back or I just couldn't get on board again.

PSOLARIS

If this show had not been cancelled, I'd be the happiest (well, one of the happiest...since there's a ton of you out there as well) browncoat in the verse.

Honestly, if there is a show that I enjoy immensely, then I make a point to watch it. CSI is a good example...I love the show, I make a point of being home at 9:00 on Thursday evening. Now some circumstances will come up and prevent me from watching a show, and from time to time yes, you will indeed miss an episode, but you know that you'll catch the rerun later on, or you can always tape it (or use your DVR if you are lucky enough to have it).

I think the following for this show would still be what it is now, but that's just my humble opinion.

OK, here goes...

If Firefly was still on tv it would be in its third or fourth season right now. Now it seems that most tv shows these days stay to a seven season limit ie: Star Treks The next Generation, Deeps Space Nine, Voyager etc etc.

Now in the case of Firefly, it was cancelled when it was barely half way through season one.

Now, as the movie shouldnt exist, thats really special, and were priveleged to be a part of it. Were lucky that out persistence and badgering over the years finally got the green light for a revival in one form or another, these being in the movie/comic book genre.

If firefly did stay on air for 5-7 years, then spawned a movie or two like Star Trek did, then i think it would be just as special because of the demand.

Take Star Trek TOS for example, that was cancelled after only 3 seasons, and the fans were pissed at the network, and it was only there persistance that got it turned into probably the most succesful from-tv-to-movie franchises of the century.

Now, what if firefly went off the air after seven or eight or nine seasons, would you still want a movie after nearly eleven years of air time, or would you have had enough of it?

Now, i dont know if my thread actually means anything, but i was saying, in brief is...

Serenity is here because Firefly isnt, the film is Joss' time to shine on the big screen as writer/producer/director and if he wants to carry on his 'verse, im happy as long some firefly related stuff is churned outta him

We'd also be into the second season of "The Man They Call Jayne" by now...

Yes, I would of watched every episode. If not when it aired, I would of either taped or TIVO'd it.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I would not have missed an episode. My wife can vouch for how I refused to miss an episode. I didn't even like to have to tape them. I would go out of my way to make sure I was home on Fridays before 8pm so I could catch Firefly.

Nothing would have changed. I would still be parked in front of the ol' tube in time to catch my all time favorite show.

I'd be in front of my tv watching it, no matter what.

I fell in love instantly... and there's nothing that could have drawn me away.

How I wish we had more seasons, then movies, then a spin-off about Jayne! Ah, heaven!

I'll take what we've got, but I wish there had been more...

EMPRESSPIRK

I was thinking not long ago how much fun I'm having in that shiny alternate reality where I can anticipate and dl both Lost and fourth season Firefly episodes.

Yeah, I believe I would still be watching. I manage to follow a lot of less entertaining shows quite faithfully.

But who knows with three years of heists gone bad maybe Firefly would have gotten boring and repetitive and just started to suck. Yet even then I'd probably find something in it to keep me watching.

Would I be as big a fan if Firefly was still on? I don't know. I guess there is a good chance I wouldn't be as rabid. There isn't that much need for rabid if you can relax and just watch the show.

And the way I see it, the things that tie Browncoats together, are the collectively shared love, loss, laughter and Serenity. It wouldn't be the same without the loss.

Who knows, we might be on this board complaining about how the show went downhill after 'Objects in Space'.

[The crew surprises Simon with a birthday cake.]
Simon: How did… how did you know? River, did you…?
River: "Day" is a vestigial mode of time measurement, based on solar cycles. It's not applicable. [pauses] I didn't get you anything.
