Notice the lack of ads for the DVD.

I think it's yet another sign that the Studio has given up on the franchise.

Maybe its a bit too early to advertise (seems most DVD ads hit television and whatnot the week before they are released).

But have to agree with ya, the lack of marketing for our beloved "Serenity" on Universal's side has been utterly horrible and unforgivable.

I keep trying to talk up the movie. Typically, folk have heard OF it, but not seen it, or they've heard nothing at all. That right there tells me that the ad campaign was directed to folk who already knew about it, such as the SciFi crowd. I told a girl about the movie, and she seemed interested in checking out the DVD. I even wrote it down for her so she'd remember.

I think a space monkey could have come up w/ a better way to market this movie.

" They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. "

Totally agree. I was one of the only ones of my friends who had heard-of-it-kinda and kept calling around for people to see it with me. I got fed up, saw it, and then dragged people kicking to the theater 30 miles away to see it again. I'm sure we'll see some ads in the next few weeks, or I'll certainly be pissed. I think I'm gonna resort to flyers around the neighborhood or something.

The two recent interviews with Joss seem specifically designed to promote the Serenity DVD and indicate that there may be more of a push on the way. In a sense, the ad campaign has already started with these new interviews.

My concerns started when Universal failed to leverage the incredible reviews that Serenity was getting into a follow-up TV ad.

I watched decent reviews for a marginal movie ("A History of Violence") give that move a huge bump in attendance.

It's like somebody doesn't *want* the franchise to succeed.

There will be ads but not until maybe a week before the DVD is released. There were ads for Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo and Christmas with the Kranks, there's going to be ads for Serenity.

I haven't been impressed by the ad campaign for the theatrical release, series, or DVD. It has seemed very underwhelming, especially considering how many "Aeon Flux" ads I've seen the last few weeks.

I don't know why there are so many Aeon Flux ads, movies that do not get screened for critics tend to do very poorly in the box office even if they do have huge ad campaigns.

The ad campagin maybe coming. I just saw the first ad for "Cinderella Man" which is being released to DVD Tuesday.

BTW Cindrealla Man was another pretty good movie that didn't do gangbusters at the theater like it was supposed to.

You are absolutely right!!! Now watch and see if some posters suddenly appear on this thread to try to quell any unrest, defending the promoters.

Did you notice that Gossi on Whedonesque, with "contacts at Universal", seemed to get angry when some fans dared to criticize the ad campaign for the film in Germany? Why was that, I wonder? Very interesting!
