Where's the scandal?

You know what Serenity could have used for promotional purposes? Some good, old-fashioned scandal. The problem with our BDH's is that they (the actors) are too nice and normal. What we could have used are some attention-grabbing headlines:
"Serenity star Nathon Fillion lobs telephone at hotel clerk"
"Serenity's Jewel Staite caught shoplifting at Saks Fifth Avenue"
or even
"the Alan Tudyk sex tape scandal"
Now THAT's the kind of promotion money can't buy!

(For those who couldn't tell, I'm totally joking...I love our BDH's for the decent human beings they are. The last thing the world needs is more celebrities with the self-control of trained apes - without the training!)

well...no scandal i guess but that brings me to my question/idea: where do you think the BDM DVD WILL be advertised ?

magazines, newspapers, tv even? i hope all of them but then again if you have wish in one hand and shit in the other, see which one fills up first...

so would there be time to take out our own ad and advertise for it (we can't use any of the material i guess but i am sure we can make up our won stuff, eh)?
it would of course be sooo cool to have our own ad on the scifi channel (and here is a message from your local bowncoat community: on december 20th, be sure not to miss the BDM DVD, or you will be burning in that special hell...and a very short clip from the R_Tam session, right after she stabs Joss in the throat:)...

anyway, i would love for us to have an ad in a big newspaper or two.

another thing that comes to mind: will the soundtrack revenue count for the firefly or BDM DVD?

You need to be somewhat careful with some of the people here. Though Firefly/Serenity is a show, and a very good one at that, its just a SHOW, and Some of people in this forum may take extreme offense to your little joke, even though I found it quite funny and inventive, other's may not see it that way, and might develop and "additude" towards you because of it. I have seen this occur time and time again, and I've only been on this forum for less than 3 months.

I guess when it comes to Firefly, its like the Star Trek fans of days gone by....there are two groups of fans, one group wants to have a good conversation with Leonard Nimoy, and the other group wants to rip the ears off of Spock; there's a lot of "Rip the Ears off Spock types" in this forum so take care not to offend them.

Also, I have found out that (believe it or not) there is a group of firefly fans here who consider themselves the "elite" only because they were there when the 1st showing of Firefly was on television back in 2002. To myself this is silly and ridiculous, but they are dead serious about it.

I suppose no matter where one goes on this Earth-That-Currently-Is, one will always find someone who believes he/she is better than another, but in the realm of Firefly, this is completly stupid and they should at least feel somewhat ashamed.

What is the difference between the people who 1st saw FF when it 1st aired back in 2001-2002, and the people who found out about Firefly through watching Serenity? Nothing, not much, except that the original viewers had more time to get frustrated and become bitter about the networks and such.

The new people such as myself and others, we get to be annoyed that there are no more episodes of the series, but we have a few years of archived posts from this forum and a few others forum, boards to go through to keep us somewhat entertained; we were spared the original frustration, therefore, all of this is still new and exciting for us, so we new people are not yet there in the realm of Firefly snobbery, but give us a few years, and perhaps we too shall develop an elite additude towards the new comers who dare to grace our forum with their stupid questions, not to funny jokes, and to dare ask questions, or dare to speculate certain realities concerning the Firefly 'verse.

Maybe people with additudes like this made The-Earth-That-Was, The-Earth-That-Was.

Whoah there, pardner. To whom are you referring? I'm relativly new myself (9 months now), and that kind has been few and very far between, as far as I can tell. Don't let one or two bad apples stop ya from enjoying the apple sauce, now.
I asked my share of 'dumb' questions early on, and those who saw fit to goof on me were very gentle or funny about it.

That's a good question. My guess - sadly - is that the studio will advertise the DVD the same amount that they did the movie...which, to my understanding, was roughly nothing. Which leaves it to the fans. Again. But that's nothing to sneeze at, from what I've seen. I'm really new to Firefly (converted by the movie), but there is real power in this fanbase.

And I hope no one did take offense at my joke! I loves me some Nathan, Jewel, and Alan! It was more a commentary on the celebrity world at large, and the media circus surrounding it. Our crew is WAY above all that.
