This is such a fantastic idea!

My partner and I have made a $20 donation, and also linked the site on some forums:

www.outofspaced.com (a generic tv/film forum I run)
www.zetaminor.com/roobarb (a DVD forum my partner runs)
www.gallifreyone.com/forum/ (a Dr Who forum where there are quite a few Firefly fans)

So hopefully the message will be spread just that little bit further!

Cheers
Sandra

Yeah. And what was the response on the Doctor Who forum?

Quote:

So far I've resisted the temptation to castigate Firefly fans (I quite like the show but wouldn't dream of calling myself a 'Browncoat').

However it does intrigue me as to WHY this particular show has attracted so many, shall we say obsessive and garrulously paranoid fans?

Quote:

If people must solicit money in this way wouldn't it far more constructive to, you know, use for something of genuine benefit to somebody? Donate it to a charity where it can do some real good, however small.

I'd hope Nathan Fillion would much prefer that to being presented with an old piece of costuming.

And a similar response greeted the plea for votes in the same place for the Film 2005 poll:

Quote:

As a long standing Whedon fan can I just say I'm a bit tired of coming across begging posts at every turn on the internet asking me to vote for Firefly/Serenity in pretty much every poll that comes up.

What next "Vote for Serenity as Best Incontinence Pad of 2005 Poll"

Do it on Serenity Websites and General SF Websites if you must but please leave this litte haven Serenity free.

As someone who actually liked Firefly (especially Mr Adam Baldwin) I'm begining to dislike it because of the activity of it's fans.

Quote:

Yes but we didn't clogg up Star Trek sites begging for they to vote for Who as the Best Sci-Fi show Ever.

Really, it's not the show or the film I have the problem with, or fans asking for it back. It's the endless plugging and fixing of every single bloody poll that ever comes.

The sad fact is that it's giving the show and its fans a terrible reputation.

I particularly agree with that last comment: we are getting ourselves a really bad reputation, mostly because of those who spam other message boards. Anyone who would actually donate money to this appeal is doubtlessly here or on the official board already. This is not an appeal that particularly merits being plastered across every message board that you happen to subscribe to.

But.. But... But...

WHO wouldn't want to be like Twiki! "B-D-B-D" And me for that matter?
(Big-Damn-Browncoat-Donator!)

I mean, really?

And hey, if we don't get enough donations to win the auction, it _IS_ all going to charity (Nathan choses).

If we _DO_ get enough donations to win, any left over will STILL go to the charity of Nathans choice. And if the show is ever brought back, at least that one prop/item will still exist and is in the hands of the person who can best use it.

I'd be surprised if he didn't show up to conventions and stuff in it even if the show never came back (bite my tongue). That way, ALL the fans still get to appreciate it as well. A lot better than having it mothballed in the back of some collectors closet where it may never see the light of day again, I think.

Nathan without the coat can still play Mal. The coat without Nathan is just another piece of leather.

I dunno about you, but I'd be prety psyched if a bunch of strangers gave me a present like that.

It would be cool if there were some way to give a gift to everyone who was a part of Firefly. This, in part, will be a symbol of what they all mean to us for the rest. We HAVE the opportunity to give this symbolic gift now so, hey, we make our best efforts to do what we can, when we can.

Hell, the best present of all would be if we somehow raised enough millions and got 100% of the rights to the show back to Joss where they belong! But that's just a Big Damn Dream I guess.

Aside from anything else, win, lose, or draw, it's the thought that counts and Nathan and the rest of the cast will know that the fans still love the show and want it to keep flying.

Sometimes that's enough.
