I was in Hollywood Video today and they are sponsoring a drive where you can donate movies to the troops. I was just thinking fans can buy copies of Serenity and donate them. This way, we can spread the word, help DVD sales, and give back to the troops.

Of course, this is just a suggestion for those who want and afford to do so.

Thanks, Do you have to buy the DVDs in their store, or can you donate one you bought elsewhere.

I just checked the phone book and I do not have a Hollywood Video near me...maybe I'll ask my local BlockBusters!

Are they going to keep the drive open long enough for Serenity to come out on DVD?

You can also buy them on Amazon.com and have them drop-shipped to BooksForSoldiers.com.

That is a cool site; soldiers can request a book, DVD, CD, or video game and the site will send it to the soldier for free.

I went back to Hollywood today to return my movie. Sorry, I made a mistake. They want you to but a $5 giftcard to donate not a movie.

I feel bad for post incorrect info but at least their is a way you can do this.

That's okay. I was wondering how they could pay for all the shipping charges.

I noticed on the BooksForSoldiers.com FAQ that they don't recommend sending the items to them. Instead, you need to ship it directly to the soldier. To do that, apparently you need to register on the site, find a request for the item (Serenity DVD in this case), and ship directly to that serviceman or servicewoman.

Great idea, though, especially if there are a lot of requests for the BDM. Or, you could send somebody a "surprise", especially if they've requested some similar item (such as a different science fiction DVD).

Ain't about you, Jayne. It's about what they need.

Sending a few copies to the troops is a great idea. Several guys from my husband's unit are currently in Iraq, and we were planning on sending some Serenity their way. They get pretty bored in their free time, and a lot of them have DVD players they brought with, so something as great as Serenity will spread like wildfire over there. I posted this idea on another thread and am still looking into any charitable organizations that send care packages to the troops, but all I've found so far is that packages need to be sent to individual soldiers, not the unit as a whole. But if I find out any more about where Serenity fans could donate DVDs, I'll let you all know.

I'm in the Navy and first want to say thanks to you from those guys overseas who could use a nice gift like a great movie. Second, Best Buy currently has a deal going where you can drop off new items that are unwrapped in front of their stores that will get shipped off to the marines. It may not be the full effect people desire, but at least its something that should be going on through the holidays for anyone who wants to donate. Have a merry christmas and great new year.

Mal: Kaylee, what the hell's going on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?

Thank you for serving our country!

I checked on Best Buy and even though the box says something like "for marines and teens", the stuff put in the box is not going to marines here or overseas. It is like the US Marine Toys for Tots campaign. It is Toys for Teens. I asked the Best Buy guy at the door and he said the Marines come by and pick up the stuff and distribute it to teens.

I'll probably end up putting some Serenity in the box when it comes out for the teens (PG-13) .

Thanks anyways.

God Bless you!
