I just lent a friend of mine the DVDs and remembered I was about to lend them to another friend, who couldn't wait and he went out and bought the BDS.
How many times have you lent yours out?

Initially it took me a while to part with 'em but I lent them out to my Mom. She liked them so much that I let her keep em and bought another set. That happened with two more friends and now I've had the same set for about 6 months. Share the 'verse right? Shiny.

Oh, I could never lend out my disks. I just have people over and let them watch with me. Makes a bit of an event out of it, actually, it's fun.

I've lent out my set about half a dozen times, each time resulting in new Browncoats. ;)

My first DVD set has been lent out five times:

Two co-workers, my brother, my parents and my uncle tonight after Thanksgiving.

I bought a second for me.

The family are all getting the DVD set for Christmas.

Same here. And I've given out a few sets as gifts.

I couldn't part with them. When a friend of mine was interested, I bought her the set so I wouldn't have to feel bad about not lending it to her.

I couldn't bear to be without my Firefly, so I've purchased about 3 sets and shared them now and will purchase a 4th this week to share with my brother.

Everyone on my list is getting "Serenity" for Christmas!

I've lent mine out three times. Once I lent them to a classmate from University - who absolutely loved them and is now an avid fan. The second time I lent them to a long-time friend. He only watched the pilot and wasn't very impressed, but his taste in films and TV shows is both limited and questionable.
The third time I left them at my house for my housemate's friend to watch while I was away for the weekend. Id shown him the first few episodes and he didn't want to stop watching!

I'm with Psychoticbride, I would have a "Firefly" party rather than lend out my disks. Disk four already has a chip in the very center on the clear part, from when I popped that disk out for the first time.( I swear, DVD companies put the DVD's in SOO tightly that you break the disks trying to get them out and then have to go buy another copy!) The disk plays just fine, but I'm afraid to lend the disks out for fear of them getting even more damaged.

I've only lent my set out once, but fortunately it did result in a pretty dedicated convert. Also, I had Serenity to get me my Firefly fix while she had my set, and the episodes were on SciFi...but yeah, it was still hard. Afterwards I ended up buying her a set of her own anyway.

I lent them out once to a coworker(semi- converted)and was on the edge of an anxiety attack until they were returned.

Thinking about buying another set to lend out.

BTW viewing parties are a great idea. I can never get enough of Firefly. At my second Serenity viewing I was glancing at the audience for their reaction about half of the time and a Firefly DVD marathon with lots of popcorn sounds great.

I went with seven people to the movies, and when what we were seeing was sold out, I suggested serenity(no one had heard of it). Every single person was completely amazed by the movie, and I immediately ordered the firefly dvds.

the next week, we all crammed into my dorm room and watched the eps. I've lent them out to two other people who have both become addicts and seen the movie.

I have lent my first set out so much I have lost count. In the year I have had them I think that set has spent a total of 1 month under my own roof. The person who has it now, has had it for at least three months and hasn't watched an ep yet! She has even seen the BDM and loved it, and yet hasn't watched any of the series!

Good thing I have a second set that under absolutely NO circumstances does it ever leave my posession!

I loaned my 1st copy out 7 times, and then I just gave it away and purchased more copies.

I finally figured out how I could get my Firefly fix while I'm away from home. I purchased one of those new IPOD music/video players. The one I have has 60 gigabytes of hd space, so what I did was I turned around and converted my new Firefly DvDs into a MP4 format, and then I downloaded them into my IPOD. Each 45 minute Firefly episode came out to be about 125MBs, which is nothing to a player with a 60 gig capacity.

I can watch 'em anytime or anyplace I desire now!

Mine is on loan right now.

Previously I've lent it out to four people in total and only failed to convert one of them. The other three all loved it. Two of them immediately bought their own DVD sets and have been creating more browncoats themselves by lending them out!

Just the once. (My bought-on-Holiday US 4-case-set) to someone who is notoriously slow to actually bloody get round to watching the thing at all.

However, I'm entirely sure they'll like it (a Bab 5 fan). If they don't... not my problem. It just means they are, if not necessarily a bad person, then one with no taste.

I'm kind of intrigued as to how long it'll take before I get the set back. Been well over 6 months so far.

I'm patient, and I've got another UK edition of my own, naturally.

There's this great show you really ought to see...

I have a huge problem, i really want my friends to see Firefly but i just can't part with my DVDs. What if soemthing (GOD FORBID) should happen to them? I would be stuck without Firefly for far longer than i would like...
...should i take the risk and make Browncoats of my colleagues...?

I forgot to mention that the 1st time I loaned out my 1st copy of Firefly The Complete series DVDs, it was on a Friday and I told the person I was loaning them to that I wanted them back on Monday.

The big dope promised me that he would have them back to me on Monday, so when he didnt bring them to work that day, I went home with his azz after work to ensure I got them back. He thought I was weird for doing this, but I suspect YOU people in this forum KNOW WHY I wanted them back, so I feel justified.

Long live the Browncoats!!!

Enuff said.

P.S. Anyone who keeps your FF DvDs for more than a week should be shot.

I haven't lent out my Firefly DVDs YET. I usually don't like to lend stuff like this out to friends (they'll lose it, or something), but I'm thinking of lending them one disk at a time to some new Firefly/Serenity converts.

Don't lend them out unless you're prepared to never get them back.

Lender nor borrower be. Surefire way to end a friendship.

There are two types of borrower - those who will watch it in a few days and get them back to you quick and those who will keep forgetting, keeping it for weeks before watching it. Just remind them politely (try not to nag) from time to time so they don't forget. Give them at least a month before asking them to give it back. Be aware it might take a while to get it back as some people are very forgetful about that too!

I don't think its a bad thing being without the DVDs for a few weeks. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and it's exciting watching them again when you finally get them back.

To increase the chances of getting a quick borrower make sure they really want to see it rather than pushing it on them because you think everyone should watch it.

I'm not worried about them being damaged as I would just buy another set.

DONCOAT

I went with a different approach. (I'm not even sure I should mention this, but... what the heck.)

I made a copy of Disc 1 of the Firefly set, and loaned that out. I know, I know, copyright and all... but that one "unauthorized" copy has led to four sales of the full set that I know of, and it's still out there somewhere, hopefully bringing in new fans all the time. (Its last known location was Dallas, TX, over a thousand miles from home.)

See, by using a copy of Disc 1 only, it's more than enough to hook the recipient into buying the set; the recipient then has the copy to pass along to the next potential browncoat; and I don't have to part with my own Firefly discs.

[DonCoat now waits for the copyright police to start banging on his door...]

You know, it is the business model that is being presented by the MPAA that is making this issue more complex than it should be. Theoretically you broke the law, but from what I gather here, you just did some free and great marketing for Fox. And you sold 4 DVD sets. How can that be against the law?

Somehow copyright and MPAA business models will need some readdressing, and soon.

Q: Why don't we just raise the defensive shields?
A: A superb suggestion with just two major drawbacks. One, we don't have any defensive shields. And two, we don't have any defensive shields. Technically speaking thats only one flaw, but it was such a big one I thought I mention it twice.
