A very long time ago (a few weeks really) I wrote and posted a fic here. I was pretty new to the Firefly/Serenity universe, but I think I understood the characters fairly well. It was called "The Earthling." Reading the title, automatically you think of the Earth-That-Was. These past few weeks I've been catching myself up with the 'verse that is Firefly. I've seen every episode, seen the movie (plenty of times), read every script, every Joss Whedon (well, the ones I could find), and am confident enough to say that I know a lot (however, the Chinese I still don't understand).

I talked a friend of mine into watching/reading the series and movie (novelization) and he loved it because of the characters, who were so well developed in it's short run. He read my fanfic and told me that if it was tweaked well enough it would make for interesting post-Serenity plot. Anyways, here's what happened:

About three weeks ago my friend came out with an outline for a four-act script that would take place post-Serenity. He told me that writing it prose was a waste of time and that it'd be far more interesting to write it in the script format the writers of the actual show wrote it in. He challenged me to adapt my fanfic into a script that would continue to grow into an on going plot for a full season (in his case, a full season would be fifteen episodes, like the first/last).

I finished the script. And not to gloat here, I think it's pretty good. There's a new crucial character (the character I included in my fic) and the story of the Earth-That-Was is revealed in it's tragic entirety (we evolved the play from "Heart of Gold" and what they keep referring to "the Great Burn").

We (myself and a handful of other fans/friends) have been working on and writing outlines/scripts for the past couple of days, that follows these basic points:

1) The introduction of an independent government devoid of Alliance control, called Antigone, who have full knowledge of the actual events of the Great Burn that destroyed the Earth-That-Was, therefore making them extremely powerful. Unlike the Anglo-Sino Alliance, they are of European power and their main language is Latin (including Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese).

2) The introduction of a young woman named Lena, who escaped the same Academy that took River before her amygdala (and anything else) was taken. Daughter of the Ambassador of Antigone.

3) The involvement of the underground group that helped take River out of the Academy.

4) The truth about Blue Sun and what the Academy actually is.

5) The Mal and Inara relationship established (and rockied by Lena).

6) River's recovery with Lena and Simon's help. Because Lena is the only other person on Serenity who knows what River went through, she somehow manages to calm her down. And mainly because Lena's also a reader.

7) Jayne's loyalties tested.

8) Zoe's moving on.

This is just the gists of it. We are serious about this virtual second season, but since none of us are computer wizes, we were wondering if anyone interested in seeing this on the web, contacted me at leedej@walla.com

Hey that sounds interesting. Would love to get more Firefly/Serenity.

Hope you find someone to help you post it on the net.

Anyone? Anyone? I'm trying to get this out there for as many people to read.

There's only two kinds of people in the world, us and them.

Where exactly did this "Antigone" come from? There's no FTL technology in the Firefly 'verse and everything takes place in one solar system.

Everything is explained in the episode. It's more simple than it sounds. And as far as FTL is concerned, the fact that it doesn't exist (and in order to get to Antigone would take many, many, many, days) makes it even easier for them to exist extremely under the radar.

It takes years to travel between solar systems. The journey between the earth that was and the new worlds took generations. Unless this "Antigone" exists in the same solar system as everyone else, it's not viable for them to do anything against the Alliance. Plus the way Joss explained the 'verse was that the only two superpowers left on earth were China and the US but instead of destroying each other like most people think will happen, they become allies and basically runs the world. There's very little room for any nation or even coalition of nations to resist the Sino-American alliance.

I'm not going to try to explain it.

This virtual second season is to continue with the story, a new story.

I understand that you're a hard core fan, Giantevilhead, and that you most likely want to see every aspect of the series covered correctly. But, in order for the story to unfold the way it does, some things (extremely minor) have to be altered.

So you're going to do sort of an alternate universe story? That's good too. You should make it so that the Companion Guild gains power by having Companions acquire secrets from their clients and then using those secrets to exotrt people. You should also make it so that the Companion Guild recruit girls by buying them and other less than legal means. Actually, that’s a good idea for how the guild recruited Inara. Perhaps Inara’s family didn’t want to give her up to the guild but the guild was not willing to take “no” for an answer and it used its influence to crush Inara’s family socially and economically, perhaps slandering them relentlessly until Inara’s parents were forced to give her up for adoption.

While that is a great plot, we've already got our stories straight. Maybe, to shake things up, we'll use it (since you so clearly offered it).

And although it's slightly altered, it isn't exactly an alternate universe, because everything else stays the same.

This virtual second season will focus very much on River, the Blue Sun Corporation, the Underground, and we even have a story where Serenity docks on Shadow and we see where Mal grew up.
