I can't be the only one who watched last night's episode, and thought to myself "Wow, that's such a Joss thing to do"

When Sayid and Shannon got bouncy with each other, alarm bells were going off in my head. As soon as those two people were happy, happines was torn away from them

Gazerbeam, it's like in that Scream 2 movie:

OK< I didn't mean for this to be about how good Lost is (or isn't), but if anybody else noticed what I was talking about. I was watching Veronica Mars, but I taped Lost (VM needs viewers, while Lost doesn't). Just me wondering if I was crazy, or just obsessed :)

Doesn't Lost have several former Buffy/Angel writers on staff?

Oh and last night's episode:

Select to view spoiler:

Was great! The only episode this season that I actually watched all the way through. My only complaint was that the Big! Shocking! Death! was kind of obvious. But it'll be interesting to see where Sayid goes from here... and if he was still carrying the gun.

I agree with the Scream series theory.

Select to view spoiler:

As soon as I saw Shannon and Sayid had sex I said, "the slut must die." Not that I think Shannon was a slut... it's just the horror genre thing to do. Also it's the Lost thing to do to kill off a semi-peripheral character as soon as they become interesting.

I don't think it has much to do with Joss at all. Joss wouldn't have promoted the episode with the "One of them will die" pitch either. He likes his deaths sudden, shocking, and heart-breaking. This death was only one of those.

David Fury writes for 'Lost'. I didn't notice who wrote Wednesday's episode, but maybe it was him.

Yup. You also have Sawyer (was on the first Angel epi), Jin was on Angel for a couple of seasons and a new character from the other side of the island was Holland Manners on Angel.

I also noticed that Steven S. DeKnight wrote last weeks Smallville. Good one too :)

Fury moved on at the end of Lost's first season ( ) to Tim Minear's show The Inside--which was quickly cancelled.

Brent Fletcher, who wrote one episode of Angel (5x10, Soul Purpose), co-wrote a S1 Lost ep, and Drew Goddard (S7 Buffy, S5 Angel, and a regular writer on JJ Abrams other show, Alias), also wrote one episode last season.

Nothing so far this season, though. And yeah, that moment at the end of Wednesday's ep was a very Joss thing to do...

Oh. That was unfortunate. Well, he's extremely talented and an Emmy nominee. I'm sure we'll be hearing more from him soon.

I think just speculating about the end of that episode has made the season decent for me. As long as some of the speculation is right. That what we were led to believe is not what happened.

*** If you haven't seen the episode then I'm gonna spoil it below so quit reading. Nothing is a spoiler for future episodes though. Unless some of the speculation is right. ***

1. We don't know that someone died. The preview said someone will be "lost" forever. Sawyer and the tail ender Cindy are possibilities as the lost forever person as well.

2. We don't know who injured Shannon. We never see Ana Lucia and Shannon/Sayid in the same scene together. We do see the back of someone holding a gun in the opposite hand that Ana Lucia was carrying it.

3. Shanon's wound does not look like a gunshot wound. Her shirt is even torn. That's not very likely from a bullet wound. It looks more like a wound from a sharp object. Knife/spear? If the shot we hear wasn't at Shannon then who else was there?

4. Was Walt really there? Sayid said he saw him, but at that time you could see that Walt was not where Shanon saw him. Then Shanon turns around and Walt is still standing there. Did Sayid lie? Does Shanon have whatever sickness the French woman spoke of? Could someone have killed her so that it didn't spread? If so is Sayid infected after having sex with her (assuming they don't have a condom tree growing on the island). Also, why did Sayid lie when he said he could see Walt?

5. Is all this speculation only around because the writers aren't being very good with continuity this season? Very possibly. I mean...even if the person we see with a gun is supposed to have shot shannon, we see that person was behind shannon when Sayid finds her. But there is no wound in shannon's back.

yeah, Fury left 'Lost' and seemed to disparage it at a convention...
he said that there is no story arc planned,
they are just making it up as they go along, which isn't very satisfying after working with Joss:
who always knew where he wanted to go
(he occassionally adjusted his plan, but he always had a clear plan)

so, in summary:
NOT anything at all like Joss because if it was like Joss there would be:
1. a clear idea of what the Island & the numbers & the hatch all ultimately mean
2. there would be some laughs.
there would be a lot of laughs
and you would actually feel your heart torn out of your body when someone gets shot,
because frankly? that blonde chick is totally expendible.

I don't know about expendible. She has some stories that are going to go left untold if she dies.

I mean having Jack save his future wife rather than Shannon's father could have led to some great turmoil between the two. Now they aren't even going to realize what effect he had on her life.

That was our first episode focusing out Shannon flashbacks. At least one more episode of her flashbacks would have been nice to see how she went from the relatively innocent, self-centered girl to the total &^@#% that she is in season 1 would have been nice. Plus she's hot. So keeping her around is a good thing.

I think her character still had a lot of potential.
