I got my Firefly CD in the mail yesterday. I'm listening to it now. It is well worth the price even if you already have the download from Fox Music. The tracks that were repeated from the download have greater texture and clarity, and the "bonus tracks" are wonderful. One of the tracks I was particularly hoping for was the piece playing on Out of Gas as Mal walks through the ship closing everything behind him after the rest of the crew leaves. It is on there, entitled "Captain & Ship," and it is lovely. Practically brings me to tears. There are a lot of other familiar and delightful themes as well. I know some people hoped for "The Hero of Canton," and it is too bad that is missing, but what is there is a delight. There are some nice pictures in the insert, too. Oh, you'll have to forgive me--just got to the last track, "Naked Mal," and can't concentrate for the mental image evoked!

Enjoy!

I placed an order for a copy of it on Amazon just this past Friday or Saturday. I'm hoping it'll show up in the next couple of days.

Good to know it's out though. ;)

I pre ordered mine from Amazon about a month ago, or whenever it first was available for pre order and I didn't get it yet. Hopefully it comes like tomorrow. I can't wait to hold it in my hands.

EDIT- I just checked and my cd is supposidly (sp?) in Bell, CA now (about 30 sum miles from me). I hope that means its going to get here tomorrow, even though Amazon says its expected to arrive Nov. 16.

I have the CD as well. And it is much with the terrific shinyness.

But those who have the CD, please back me up--is "Inside the Tam House" (track 24), not the most beautiful piece of music? You could barely hear it in the flashback scene in "Safe" because it was under all the dialogue, but....my gosh.

So very very beautiful.

Great to hear that. I've added it to my Amazon Wishlist.

I have this bad habit of buying this kinda stuff because I can't wait and then when Christmas comes around, people don't know what to get me. :)

Riversbounty,

Yes, Inside the Tam House is incredibly lovely. Somehow with the additional tracks even more so than the set from the download, you can really see the wide range of influences, instruments, etc. To go from a driving theme like Mal Fights Niska or the various Reaver themes to some twangy western guitar to some delicate Asian-influenced pieces like Inara's Suite or the Tam House music really emphasizes the amazing scope of Firefly--and also what a great job Greg Edmonson did interweaving all those ideas in his music.

I love the Serenity score and feel it fits the movie--but my love affair with the Firefly music is longer (let's see, 15 hours x a very large number of viewings...)and deeper. I'm afraid my colleagues at work are getting a little tired of me humming, tapping my feet, or pulling the earplug jack while exclaiming "You just have to hear this!"

Currently no 17 in music on the amazon.com chart.

I can't wait for the UK release on the 28th. No actually I can wait - but only just. Not much point in paying extra for an import when it'll be here so soon.

I've found a watched UPS truck never comes. But I keep bugging the receptionist every five seconds anyway...don't worry, it'll get there!

I'm more worried about missing the truck. See, I have class soon and I just know its going to come while I'm gone, with no one here to co-sign for it. Unless they just leave it on the porch, which I hope.

They usually do that in my neighborhood. But you can also try leaving a signed note saying it's OK to leave it. That doesn't always work (some packages are shipped with instructions that someone has to sign) but generally it does.

I'm listening to my copy right now and there is so much that I like that it is hard to know where to start!

Two of my top favorites would have to be "The Funeral" which almost always makes me cry and
"River's dance".

BTW, does anyone out there know what the Hindi words in the "Heart of Gold Montage" mean?

Just wondering...is the song when the crew lands down on Persephone (EavesDown Docks) on the CD? That and The Funeral song was always my favorite.

It came. Of course, this was after I came back from class, but it came with the mail instead of the UPS/Fed Ex people.

Such a wonderful CD, I love every track. Of course, the Funeral and River's Dance are my faves.

That's really nice, but is the song "Hero of Canton" from Jaynestown on the soundtrack?

No but a very very similar tune called Spaceball is on track 11, at about the 2:00 mark, after Leaving/Caper (which I think should be labeled Caper/Leaving, or I'm missing the musical flavoring there). You get about 30 sec of it, but it's good.

Also worth listening to is 16, Book's Hair. It has a comical sort of stalking sense to it. I can easily imagine Book's hair poking around the corner.

A cute one is cows (cows in space are so darn funny anyway), and the third one in that track is My Crew, which is another very good one.

Another good and interesting one is Inside the Tam's House. The piano part (River) is fully played, creating a healthy and complete stream of music rather than the previous plonk--pause--plonk theme of broken brained River. Her story is so sad and Summer's acting was so good.

And the previous paragraph was typed while I listened to Captain and Ship...if that tune was any longer I'd cry every time I heard it.

There are so many gems on this one. I'd love to see Greg Edmonson take a couple of these themes and make a full album out of them. He's my hero.
