Saw this in a message from a fellow Browncoat on myspace, who seems to have gotten this from the Official Boards. Its a shiny idea!
*~*~*

This is an interesting idea. Taken from the Official US Browncoats forum.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Okay, stick with us.

A few of us are going to create a book which chronicles the last year and a bit for all of us, kind of like a yearbook for the end of Firefly and the start of Serenity. It would have your regular yearbook style pages with everyone's name and photo who had the mind to contribute them, but also reports and editorial and pictures of our Shindigs, our big events, the conventions, the mad promotional stuff we got up to and our own memories of the Big Damn Movie and our Big Damn Heroes.

What is going to be integral to this book, are the stories, so if you have a great story, we wanna hear it. Also, the yearbook section will be a major part of the book.

This is the important part - this book will belong to ALL BROWNCOATS, it isn't a private project which will benefit some more than others. If you want to contribute IN ANY WAY, just email browncoatbook@gmail.com and tell us what you're thinking - it could be a testimonial for Firefly, tales of the BDHs, your personal review of a Shindig, a photograph, a drawing, or anything else of interest. Most of all, we want you to be inthe book as your own yearbook entry, which will be a photo, name, username, short comment and a space for a signature, so that book owners can have the Browncoats they know and meet sign their copy.

The book will be 200 pages and will cost about $15. It will be available to buy online, hopefully by the end of January, as we want to include all the Christmas Shindigs, Big Damn Flanvention, Serenity 2 etc.

We have already had offers of help from editing to illustrating, design and content, whatever you can offer, please let us know.

The email again - browncoatbook@gmail.com, you can reply here, (and please keep this bumped) but please also email because it may get hard to keep track of the posts.

So what are you waiting for? I want no excuses for not being involved!

DS

Hey.
it is a shiny idea... and actually there is an update of that. Btw the deadline for general entries is going to be end of November.

Prakash

Here is the update post from the official forum:

------------------------------------------------------
The website is coming very soon... or so I've been told... but I wanted to take this opportunity to put in a new summary post at the very top of page 11. So here it is. This is basically the information from the upcoming website, but do stay tuned for the website as it's very shiny and will be an easy source of information to pass onto your friends, family, neighbours and random strangers that you meet on the street.

ABOUT THE BOOK

The Browncoat Book is a yearbook chronicling for Browncoats the end of Firefly and the start of Serenity. It will have yearbook-style pages with everyone's name and photo, as well as Browncoat testimonials and articles, reports and photos from Shindigs, fan art, tales of the mad promotional stuff we got up to and our own stories and memories of the Big Damn Movie and our Big Damn Heroes. This yearbook is not a private project - it will belong to ALL Browncoats!

SUBMISSIONS

The most important part of this yearbook will be what you contribute to it! First of all, we want as many Browncoats as possible to be in the yearbook-style pages. Please submit your name, username, photo and a short comment. In this section there will also be a space for a signature, so that book owners can have the Browncoats they know and meet sign their copy! Email yearbook entries to bcyearbook@gmail.com.

Secondly, please email general submissions or ideas to browncoatbook@gmail.com. Maybe you have fan art, reports and photos from Shindigs, stories about meeting the Big Damn Heroes or a testimonial about how you became a Browncoat. It can be anything fan-related to Firefly or Serenity! All submissions must be received by November 30th, 2005. Photos and fan art should be 300 DPI if you are scanning them and as high quality as possible, since the yearbook will be professionally produced.

CONTENTS

The following categories represent the main sections of the yearbook. If you are planning to submit something, consider how it might fit into one of these categories. Material that doesn't fall into one category will be spread through the book. If you are submitting anything for a group (a Firefly Meetup group for example), try to send in all your group submissions together at once. Other special sections, such as the yearbook's Dedication and a collection of Webcomics, are already covered.

BOOK SPECS & PURCHASE INFORMATION

The Browncoat Book will cost about $15.00 and will be 200 pages in length, 8.5" x 11" in size and printed in black and white. Though the yearbook is a non-profit project, there will be a slight markup from the production cost built into the final cost of the book, and the profits will be donated exclusively to Equality Now (Joss Whedon's charity of choice).

The Browncoat Book will be sold online through the Browncoat Book website and will be available for purchase hopefully by the end of January 2006, as we want to be able to include all of the Christmas Shindigs, the Big Damn Flanvention and Serenity2, among other year-end events. Stay tuned for purchase details.

You know, by Christmas he's gonna have even more stories to tell. He has enough story to write his own book.

Has anybody heard what happened with this? Their website isn't up any more and I didn't get any notification that the book was coming out...

The book is still due out. The website being down is my fault, sorry.

I think it'll make the later part of this year, or possibly the summer. It was originally intended for this weekend, but the release has slipped.
