Since Joss is busy doing wonder woman.. what if someone else picked up the project to complete it.. do you think it would be the same?? what if he just gave the story arc and stood back?? Would you see a not all Joss W Serenity??

This is all what ifs.. none of it is real.. but post what you think about it as a true firfly fan..

"Guess I'm just a good man.'' *Pokes him again*

If it was Tim Minear with Joss' approval and complete coordination and trust.... then of course I would! Joss I'm sure would have a hand in the story and the editing etc. just like he did on the show.

This was in another thread too, and I agreed then that Tim could do it just fine.

IMHO Tim has a wonderful "feel" in his writing and directing for who Mal is... therefore he could do it.

If we don't see it, how can we bash it? Wait, forget I said that.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

If it were our cast and Joss or Tim wrote it, yes, I would definitely see it. MANY TIMES!

If it were our cast and someone other than Joss or Tim wrote & directed it? I would still see it. I would support our BDHs and would love to see the story continued.

If Joss keeps control of the project (script approval etc) as I assume he would,
then I would watch it no matter who wrote it!

In addition to Tim Minear we have
Ben Edlund (Jayne's Town)
and
Jane Espensen (Shindig)
and a lot of other really wonderful writers who are more than capable to bringing us a worthy sequel!

Frankly I'll be going to see anything that is made,
and buying ever comic,
and I'm even up for the shadow puppet theater...

STORYMARK

Sure would. At least I'd give it the benefit of a doubt. As crucial as Joss is to Firefly/Serenity, I don't think that he's nessesarily the only person who could do well by it.

Particularly since, no matter how buys he might get, it's still Joss' baby, and I can't imagine him going entirely hands-off with it.

Written by Ben Edlund and directed by Tim Minear would work. Though there's probably some very talented people we've never heard of that could bring something nice to the mix.

Let me add to my post....

Yea, our cast WOULD HAVE to be in it.

And you all are right about lots of other talent from the show writing and directing.

As long as Joss oversees it, even from a distance and it's our BDH I'm in. No matter what.

Well, Joss has said that he'd promised Tim Minear that Tim would be involved in any sequel. Joss would probably provide the story arc, and given that he's said he's already written the first scene of the sequel, he might even co-write.

But he certainly doesn't have to direct, which is the most time-consuming of all. Indeed, when Tim was asked about Joss & Serenity, his response was "I hope he doesn't fuck it up; I want to direct the sequel."

As long as Whedon is involved in the story level (which he kinda has to be), I'd be more than happy to watch a Minear-directed (& co-written) Serenity 2: The Search for Badger's Hat or whatever they'll call it. One of Joss' great talents is surrounding himself with other brilliant people, so if he can't do all the writing or directing, he's got a lotta friends he could call.

BADGERSHAT

Based on the near foaming at the mouthness JW has had about Firefly/Serenity and all its assorted trials, tribulations, woes, hills, valleys, etc...

... I have very very serious doubts he'd be willing to turn it over to anyone any time soon. Maybe, if it takes off and becomes a hige franchise, Star Wars or Star Trek style, he'd bring other on to handle other incarnations.

But if (we pray) there IS a Serenity 2, it's pretty much a guarantee he's NOT be willing to have anyone else handle it, not even Minear. Firefly was JW's brain child, his baby, his obsession, his myriad of other assorted cliche's, and I don't think that's died down for him.

The most important things to me would be the cast and the writing. If Joss is involved on some level with writing the story and if our BDHs are back, then I'm there opening weekend (and several other weekends as well) Joss did not write and direct every episode of Firefly, so I think he's able to give some control to others he trusts.

Also, if there is help in the writing and directing areas, then we may not have to wait 3 plus years for the sequel.

As long as we get the same characters I would watch, but I would hope that Joss would have some sort of controle of the project, cause it's his 'verse, his people... some might treat them right, others can butcher is baby. As long as I see no butchering, I would be happy.

I will go see Serenity in any shape, size, or form at least once to support it.

However, without "our" crew, it would not be Serenity.

Likewise, without Joss it would not be the same.

America loves a winner!

I am of the opinion that Lucas should have allowed someone else to direct his last 3 movies, the prequels. I'm told that there are 3 more sequels to Return that he has in his mind to do. I would not even bother unless he gets someone else.

If Joss didn't do a Serenity sequel, then I'd feel ok w/ Tim Minear or a few other like minded folk. Might even help the rest of the crew's odds of survival for the next next movie?

Kaylee: Jennifer Lopez - I laughed at this one too, at first. Then I thought...yeah, I could see it....

Wash: James Dean - Ha! I get it.

Book: Douglas Fairbanks Jr. - I don't get it.

Simon: Peter McNichol - I need it explained to me.

River: Renee Zellweger - All I see is Bridgette (Jones) Not YoSafBridge

Inara: Madonna - not as cute as Morena, but doable

Jayne: Tom Cruise - too short.

Not only would I be OK with Tim or someone else honcho'ing the effort...I'd PREFER it. That's right! PREFER it!
Let me explain...I have this little theory that the reason for Firfely's universal success, and Serenity's lukewarm response, is the diversity of the talent involved with the effort. I gotta tell ya...Wonderfalls beats the HELL outa Buffy. And Slither...? Let me just say that this is the first time I'll ever not see a movie based solely on its trailer...

Yes, there are some people I would like to have involved more than others, but to be honest joss W is not a deal barker for me.

For the recorded I consider JW a vary good idea man (maybe even an exlent one) but on the execution he’s a little ify

For me, as a writer, the integrity of the story telling takes precedence over everything else - even our BDH (don't hurt me...)
So if Joss wasn't involved it would have to be helmed by somebody else from Mutant Enemy (FF era). Also, the helmsman and the finished script would have to have Joss' express approval.
If the worst happened and some studio or other claimed the rights to the FF / serenity world and characters, and tried to make a film with no involvement or imput from Joss, I definitely WOULD NOT watch it.
Sorry. Joss is god.

Auraptor,

Douglas Fairbanks Jr - another dead guy.

Peter McNicol got in because I'm pretty easy going and was running out of unsuitable actors, people who genuinely stink in anything that requires them to do what the man on the Clapham Omnibus would call acting, and Hollywoodistas that really irritate me.

He got in because I'd just seen Numbers, and the way he introduced the mathematician was jaw-dropping.

It rivalled anything Clive "Learned My Craft From George Lucas" Cussler, or whoever writes the CSI scripts for ham-fisted expositional clunkiness.

(I do have to give proper credit for my post to Ben Browder. I saw an interview where he was asked what it would take to get Hollywood make a Farscape film.)

"Tom Cruise as D'Argo. Job done."
