The box office intake for Serenity was not horrible. I think people are just being overly dramatic or overly negative.

There were movies on the boxofficemojo list that have many more dvds to sell in order to get into the black than Serenity. Many of those are above it on the list.

By my estimates if Serenity sold 4 mil copies worldwide, we could have a sequel. That isn't that many.

People talk about being realistic but its kind of a glass half full half empty sort of thing. The whole thing could go either way. So why not be positive? Send out some good vibes.

To all loyal Browncoats the end is "NOT" nigh!!!

I like many other loyal faithful came into the game late. The day "Serenity" came out I acquired "Firefly" on DVD by the time I finished the series and cemented my addiction the gorram theaters had pushed our beloved out in lou of more mindless dribble. I had to hunt it down at a "last Chance" theater just to see it. Although the movie left me with bitter sweet feelings I am no less dedicated to the continued survival of the verse I've come to love.

My very long winded point is this the original Browncoats did us a great services fighting to keep "Firefly" afloat and with their numbers, dedication and the great one "Joss" were able to pull off a miracle and there is no reason we can't get another. There's more of us now than ever and we ain't done by a long shot. For all those out there who think DVD sales can't make that big of a difference look at "Pitch Black". DVD sales are the only reason "Riddick" was made and :Serenity" was leagues better than both those movies.

Hold the line Browncoats, reinforcement are coming in every day and were buying DVDs with all we got!!!

"What was that?" -Capt. Mal Reynolds

... fully loaded, safety off...

Personally not interested in comics or books or IFPT (Itinerant Firefly Puppet Theater - although now that I mention it...), all of those pale next to the real thing, and the real thing has to have that cast. Not all of them, I can learn to live with recent *changes* (have to) and have new characters introduced - I trust the shows creators to do that well as they have in other shows. But someone better hurry if it's going to be revived as a series with that cast, because - you may want to plug your eyes - the window for them playing those roles is closing. I can't imagine any of them not being firmly committed elsewhere in the very near future.

I do not want to be negative at all, But I guarantee you anytime the box office does not exceed production cost the movie is considered a "box office" failure.
Remember total Box office is not all revenue. The theater gets a cut, distrubution gets a cut, etc. These are things not counted in the Production Budget. If there was no DVD this film would be around $10 million in the red.

That is the negative nelly in me...
Now the positives...
DVD Sales appear to be very stong, hopefully putting the overall film in the black.
The additional Firefly sales will not go unnoticed.
If Joss wants to keep this going, a 10% return on investment may be sufficient to do it.

Yes, but remember that close to all movies today make more money on DVD then in theatres.

So Serenity follows that same direction (which i'm most certain it will), the movie should be pretty far over the green zone :)

Jayne: All those years of preacher training, getting knocked out by one bounty hunter
Book: Oh, dont get me wrong. I gave him a hell of a fight
Jayne: Epic i'm guessing

That is a current trend for movies to enter the black or turn a profit with DVD sales. DVDs have been much more lucrative than movie tickets for quite some time now.

Serenity did not do horribly in the theaters. It just didn't exceed expectations which would gurantee a sequel. It was not a box office bomb. Stealth was even through it is several spots higher on the chart yearly box office gross.

Note: Theaters do not get a huge percentage of box office intake. They make their $$ on the concession stand. That is why the food cost so much. That is also the reason why $1 theaters can do so well.

I am positive on the state of DVD sales. The only thing I did not buy was the statement that it was a success at the box office. That is all. The movie is a success as we all here will agree.

Remember to that all of you seem to be forgetting the world wide factor. As far as I know Serenity the movie was only released in the U.S. and Europe. I have not heard it reaching Asia (Besides Singapore or Australia), Africa, or South/Latin America. Thus that is reduction in $$$ and ticket sales. If it took hold in China and Japan think of how much $$$ that would bring in. Right now there are too many factors to say yes or no. Its the gray factor of Sales/Revenue, Joss's career and how his other projects do, the Execs etc etc.

We aint gonna go out with out Swingen and a fighten son.
Knock me down son and tell ya what, I be risen again w/ a right hook.

I will wave the white flag on this... We all have our thoughts and feeling on this. I am not going to change anybody's opinion on this, all I will do is make enimies, and it is not worth that.

Here is to being able to have the box office discussion about a sequel.

In today's "Cont+Alt+Del" one of the main characters is wearing a Blue Sun T-shirt. I almost fell out of my chair. Check it out at http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php

this is a relatively unknown online strip very similar to "Penny Arcade" but you all should check it out. I definitely think the artist is on our same page.

Stuff like this can only help our cause.

Actually, based on the trend, the tv audience and movie audience is shrinking, and in general is dropping in avg IQ*. Reality shows and tv shows/movies with no depth are the norm and I think

You hit it right on the head. I watch some tv, but 99.9% of it on channels other than the main networks. The only weekly programs I've ever been interested in were scifi or quirky:

Brisco County, Farscape, Hercules, Xena, Babylon 5, Space Above and Beyond, X Files, Millennium, Firefly (the best of the bunch), Stargate SG1 and Atlantis, Dark Angel (my 2nd favorite). I watched all of these from day one, some ran for quite some time before others started picking up on them.
Apart from those the Science Channel, History Channel, Military Channel.
Does anyone else remember Gina Torres in that Cleopatra 3000 or whatever it was called?
I don't watch any of the stuff on ABC, NBC, CBS, etc.

I don't think of myself as a lion....
Does that seem right to you?

I love this man more and more everyday.

We're all in limbo right now, but maybe the execs will see the light (if they get their heads out of their asses long enough)and the girl will be flying again. As for me, I'm going and getting some lettuce like Joss said.
