As seen elsewhere, there are WAY too many "Flame Krad" posts around and not enough appreciation. In my OPINION.
So...our resident "lurker/troll basher/wiseman" shall do it himself. lol

THANK YOU KRAD!

Personally, I find it awesome (yes, I said that word) that one of our VERY OWN, a browncoat from boradcast, wrote the novelization of Serenity. I seem to be carrying the "torch of appreciation" around here of late, so post here with thanks!

Let's show a fellow browncoat some LOVE, not some FLAME!! Post up with some thanks to KRAD!

I haven't read the novelisation yet, but from what I hear it's pretty good :) Anything with some new background story about our BDH is good for me! :)

I agree. I personally loved the novelization, and found it did a great job getting us into the heads of the characters, explaining things, etc. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Not the greatest book ever written. Truth be told, I think I still prefer Steven King to DeCandido. But still....

THANK YOU KRAD!!!!!

I really enjoyed the novelization. You obviously know and love the characters, and went to a great deal of trouble to explain what was happening in their heads, not just the words coming out of their mouths. Thanks for taking on this labor of love, and doing the story, and us Browncoats, proud!!

LIMINALOSITY

Well, yeah. Please.
I meant to do this before, but the first thread went immediately to the spelling error and grammar attack I always find so charming.
Then lo and behold there was a new thread, but that didn't go at all well either.

I considered sending email directly to KRAD to avoid dragging either of those threads back into the light, but what a cowardly and outrageous decision that would have been!

So, thanks for starting this thread Tethys. I will make no pretense, and address my comments directly to the author, and I will go on as usual!

I paint, and one of the most challenging things for me is noodling around riffing on another artist's work; whether it's Botticelli or the composer of the original fractal, it presents special problems (also epiphanies, which is why I love to do it). I find that often as not the works of other artists playing on a theme not of their own making works to enrich the original for me. I've been enjoying FF for a couple of years, and have often been delighted with the interpretations I've found here and elsewhere.

More than enough about me.

I enjoyed the intro for newbies: your background on Simon & the Tam family, the description of the arc of his understanding and decision, and the Garcias were, I thought, very well done. The book gave me a great sense of Simon's growing apprehension and horror that no one shared his concern for his sister. I appreciated your drawing him gradually into that dark little room where everyone thinks he's crazy, and they won't hear him anymore.

The Operative as kind of nerdly with glasses was a revelation, and I enjoyed the alternate perspective very much. Much can change with a single piece of costuming! Also interesting in that I read in Chiwetel's performance that his rage simmered just under the surface from the beginning, despite his protest to the contrary. (His "where are you hiding...little girl" seemed to me to almost drip with venom).

The new mule, what happened to the old one, that Mal paid for it with proceeds from the sale of the Lassiter. Liked it.

The way you got into the character's heads, particularly with River and Jayne was just lovely and enhanced my appreciation on many levels.

The Heist from River's perspective was beautifully jarring, like a spring breeze in the middle of the gritty bank robbery. I thought you brought an unusual and sweet voice to the distance between her and the others. I was blown away by your insertion of the idea that she doesn't hear the Reaver until she sees him through the boy's eyes. Also, I'd had the idea that the dream sequence she replayed at the beginning was because it was the first time she'd heard of Reavers, and I liked your idea that it was because she felt she'd won a battle with the teacher. That fits with my understanding of why a person would return to that scene when being tortured by other teachers.

I relished the battle scene with the Reavers as you told it from Jayne's prespective. We haven't much seen Jayne in his element, in a situation where his skills surpass those of the other characters. You have the Jayne voice down so well, I've re-read the battle scene several times because you've given him some priceless lines.

The Fanty and Mingo background made me laugh out loud.

Your Haven was a very real place, with characters to care about, that fits in well with the rest of the 'verse.

I think you've done remarkably well at holding your digital tongue through some of the postings I've read. Of course everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I never noticed you going far at all down a road of 'I didn't have much access', which I've been finding pretty darn admirable.

Finally, I have a little quote to share, sort of how I feel when I put my imagination and efforts to interpret the work of others, from Georgia O'Keefe:
I had to create an equivalent for what I felt about what I was looking at - not copy it.

Anyway, thanks. Much fun, many insights. I probably missed some of my typos and spelling errors. Bwah haa ha.

I agree Tethys! Too much negativity here lately & not nearly enough props to those that have done so much for the BDM & the fanbase.

Keith, loved the novelization. I really enjoyed the insight into the characters you gave us & the glimpses of the past. I think the book was masterfully done. The right man got the job & did a gorram fine job of it too.

CALLMESERENITY

I loved it, too! I think he did a wonderful job.

My only regret is that I was unable to purchase it and get it signed by KRAD in person at Dragon*Con. BUT I did get my picture taken with him. He's a very nice guy IRL!

So, KRAD, GREAT job! Thanks for all your hard work. There are many of us that appreciate it. We'll try to be louder.
