Went to the Fox site, noticed a scene marked history lesson,

I have seen serenity 5 times, but not this scene

I think it explains alot about Mals loss of Faith

Must have been an outtake. Now I understand where some of the fanfic came from. Is there a way that I could see the script? My computer cut out a lot of the dialogue.

WASH: Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction.
ZOE: We live in a space ship, dear.
WASH: So?

the scene was from "serenity", the pilot episode. it was cut in favor of the battle scene in the teaser.

Actually, the scene on the site has stuff that was cut from the unaired version. It is also unfinished since Simon's book doesn't have the video display.

The script pages for that scene can be found at the bottom of the same page the video was on.

I believe the notes on the script pages say that the battle scenes that eventually appeared at the beginning were supposed to be a flashback in this scene.

I was actually so disappointed that this scene was cut that when I made a copy of the series for someone I put this scene back in, as well as the scene between Book and Simon that led to this scene.

Enjoy

It is, at the very least, among my favorite scenes from Serenity, and i was quite upset that they cut it. I think it explains a lot, as well as being kind of morbid and creepifying.
