Hello All... I am a new fan and proud to make my first post here about Firefly. The movie was great and I immediately set out to watch all the episodes out there for firefly. It was awesome! I remember the first time I saw firefly many years ago on TV and I didn't give it a second glance.... I thought Western & Sci Fi?! Together?! Crazy! What I think that many people who are disappointed with the opening have not realized is that the movie Serenity really opens up Firefly to new fans. I know that I would have never sat down and watched Firefly if it wasn't for the movie. So THANK YOU fans that were able to push that to happening. I have also gotten all my roommates hooked on it. So keep pushing people to go see the movie and then set the TV series in their lap and watch the obsession begin.

Does anyone know if Sci-Fi (or anyone) will make some more Firefly episodes for the old and new fans out there?

DATALESS

That was what Gene Rodenberry promised Paramonut. Wagon Train in space. I just took Joss Whedon to pull it off.

Welcome! No, Sci-fi will not be making any more new episodes, unless some things change dramatically. All the networks had declined to pick up Firefly back when it was first canceled. Now, there are contractual issues where the rights for Firefly won't be released until 2012 or something like that. There is the fact that most of the creators, writers, and actors have moved on to new projects, so they might not be available any more.

Now, anything can still happen. But the general sentiment the cast and creator of the show has shared in past interviews is that Firefly is not likely to return to television. We're still here cause we hope against hope...

Im hoping that once Serenity hits dvd, and the sales figures come in (should be a big hit on dvd) that universal in some fashion will back further episodes, Im guessing tv or direct to dvd movies. I think the following is big enough not to ignore and what studio doesn't like franchises?

I am one of the fans stuck on the idea of the TV format as being *essential* for the quality continuation of this 'verse . . . but I appreciate the many legal and logistical complications of which I am but dimly aware . . .

Seems to me we have the fans to warrant a show. How can we facilitate getting FOX to LET! GO! of these rights? Are they hoping to make more money by bringing back the show, with Joss, under their control? Is his (understandable) refusal creating an impasse? Is FOX holding out for more money? Or ("You? Enemies? Nooo...")are they simply suffering a cranial-rectal inversion?

Seems to me they could alienate a goodly number of viewers...'twould be a shame if folks accidently stopped watching their gorram network.

Dunno. I'm ranting.

I cannot believe people still believe this. It's just plain silly! Joss Whedon has absolutely debunked this rumor: listen to this! Here's part of where that rumor comes from: http://archive4.libsyn.com/podcasts/thesignal/signal_003se_20050831.mp
3

It's the Signal's Special Edition Podcast #3. You can fast forward through about the first half of the Jewel Staite interview (if you want), but that's where the 10 year rumor comes from: Jewel says so. Well, in a later clip, you can hear Joss Whedon HIMSELF say that there is NO reason they COULDN'T make new episodes. Here, http://media21a.libsyn.com/podcasts/thesignal/signal_012_20050928b.mp3
That's the mp3 of The Signal Episode 12. At the VERY VERY end of the episode, Les and Kari play the clip from Joss (at WonderCon (sp?)) debunking the myth of "No More Firefly for Ten Years" Apparently...Nathan started that rumor. Bad Nathan! (also, it has an EXTREMELY shiny Morena interview.)

SO! There's absolutely no reason for some network not to pick up Firefly again. And if SciFi had brains in their skulls, they'd BEG Joss to make new episodes. It would absolutely be the highest rated show on their network.

(btw, I hope those links work!!! Oh, and if they don't, just go to serenityfirefly.com and listen to Episode 12 of the Signal, an awesome Firefly podcast)

They weren't cows inside. They were waiting to be, but they forgot. Now they see the sky, and they remember what they are.

Firefly without Wash and Book though?

I'm not saying it would be the same Firefly. I personally would much rather have Firefly without Wash and Book (22 hours a year) than Serenity sequels without Wash and Book (2 hours every 3 years or so) Besides, I think those arcs would be interesting. Zoe dealing, Simon screwing up with Kaylee (often), River semi-lucid. I would enjoy it!

Thanks for the heads up on the 10-year rumor. I hadn't heard those podcasts.

But you can't blame people for believing Nathan, and not having been updated on the scoop.

Yeah, I can see how people would believe it, if they hadn't heard the podcast, or been there for the convention. Not being all updated and whatnot...I guess I kinda can't believe that there are Browncoats who don't listen to the Signal, lol! I just like it so much! ;) It's so shiny!
