DONCOAT

Not much of a spoiler here.

Early in the movie, River has a brief discussion with Mal in the cargo hold. The scene is not in the Visual Companion -- it must have been added during shooting -- so no help there.

It starts with Mal greeting her. At first, I thought he said "Hello, little one. Do you understand your part in all this?"

But the last time I saw the BDM, it seemed like he called her "little worm" rather than "little one".

Opinions? Anybody care to check for this one your next viewing?

Sounded like "little one" to me. I would assume that a peculiar term of endearment like "little worm" would probably have been in Chinese, as even their normal terms tend to be.

EMBERS

It was added later, after the very first Adv Screenings (last January) Joss was worried that not everyone could tell that they were supposed to notice that Mal & River were the lead characters,
so he (Joss) added this scene,
to give newbies a clue.
Joss talked about it in an interview recently,
if I could find the interview....

but actually he'll mention it again in the DVD commentary I'm sure!
----------------------------------
oh, sorry...I thought you were wondering about the scene...I see it was the word;
and I'm pretty sure it was "little one"
because he calls her that a lot...

until he starts calling her albatross

As of my last viewing Thursday DonCoat, it sounded like "little one" from where I was sittin'.

He also calls her "little albatross" or "my little albatross" at the end flying scene I believe.

I am going to try to catch the movie down at the Sugar Creek theater sometime next week. I believe it will get a three week run down there, and I will be sure and listen again.

I just can't wait until I get my Visual Companion!
It's in the mail and I'm having a hard time being patient.

Yeah, the "little albatross" line was totally shiny.

I'd be very glad if anyone would keep an ear out for this line. I've seen the BDM on six different screens at five different cineplexes now, and every one had different sound characteristics. The dialog was hard to hear in some theaters, especially in scenes with a lot of background goings-on.

One otherwise good theater had the surround channels turned up so loud that they practically washed out the dialog in the louder scenes.
