... I would immediately get in touch with Joss Whedon and announce my intention to invest part of my new fortune in (preferably) new seasons of Firefly, or (second choice) two sequels to Serenity.

For those who don't know, a multistate lottery called Powerball worth $340 million was won by someone in Oregon yesterday.

I only wish I had enough money to become a Firefly "angel". It might have helped if I'd actually bought a ticket, but... you know what I mean.

Can't someone please turn Bill Gates into a raging Browncoat? He could fund us for the next, oh, ever and not even notice the drain on his cash reserves.

And here we are, dying for want of a measly 40 million bucks...

Interesting, I had a similar conversation with two of my co-workers today at lunch. We were having the old "what would you do if you had won..." conversation and I said I'd finance the two sequels with the same budgeet Serenity had.

I just hope that if somebody on here ever does win the lottery, they'll see the logic in investing future seasons of Firefly, not sequels of Serenity. And that's not supposed to be a knock against the film, but pure maths:

Season of Firefly: about $50mill for 10+ hours of Firefly goodness (assuming it's a 14 episode season).

Sequel of Serenity: about $50mill for 2 hours of Firefly goodness.

Not to mention the fact that our BDHs will get killed off far less often if it's a season on TV.

The only reason I even mentioned movies (as a fallback option) would be the situation that it might not be possible to get all our BDHs back for a renewed TV series.

Of course, there could be intermediate options, like a 2-hour TV movie every couple months, etc.

I'd buy the rights to future of the Firefly fanchise and RULE OVER YOU ALL AND BECOME YOUR NEW GOD! Ahem... What I ment to say is: I'd be charitable with it and all that.

When I die I want to go peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa. Not screaming and yelling like everyone else in the car he was driving.

I would actually invest it in a project my family started called the browncoat hotel. get this . build a full size serenity mockup, build a hotel next to it, and almost every browncoat would go see serenity
(literally)

I think we're evolving (slowly) into a new business model where you get the fan-driven vehicles. Consider that production cost may continue to drop on movies/features etc. (check out the LA times article about Joss Whedon's production code and sticking to the budget), and the online universe of downloadable flicks. There already are a few features that are bittorrent only -- there was a Star Trek spook that was marketed that way. Is it really that surprising to imagine that we get to a point where for the right amount of $ a group like this fan site can subscribe to pay $5 each for the next installment of ...

We should set up a new poll to go with the current one. Would you donate $1, $5, $10 to the Serenity II fund? Much as I want another season, I think the movie sequel is more affordable just based on the numbers. See what the running numbers are. I've already spent over $100 on DVDs, movie tix, books, comics. What's another $10?

One of the crew members DIE!?!?!? Is this true, I need to know. And who is it? Goddammit, how can he kill off one of the characters, this is unbelievable.

It's ok, don't bother. I already know who it is. It just doesn't make any sense. I'm so fucking stupid, shouldn't of been so nosy. I just had to go look it up. I don't know if I'm excited about the movie or just dreading the premiere now. I need to meditate or something...

If I'd won that money, you'd never see my fat ass again. I'd be in Palm Beach with my new friends.

Awesome! And if that doesn't work I'll just have to bang my head against a wall until I forget =)

no but seriously, I just can't understand how that character's role to play on the ship can be replaced by anyone, ever. I mean for the sequal, it's just not possible, they can't just bring somebody in and then expect you to love that person. I'm just not emotionally equipped for that :P

I'm going to sleep now for 2 weeks until the movie premieres.

Well, so that's the production cost for the film and the season of the show... But you'll still need to either pay for the distribution cost (or pressing DVD and distributing them) or the cost to buy the airtime on a channel (unless if you do local community TV channel). So you gotta buy up the particular slot - I mean, the network isn't going to show any old show even if it's "free" (i.e. they don't pay a dime, but they still don't make any money for that slot unless if someone pays for it).
