Greetings...
many of your hopes for a financial success of Serenity lie on the European market. Well, concerning the German market I wouldn't raise my hopes too high. Fact is that most of the people never heard of Firefly before. The series hasn't been shown on TV here, yet. The DVD release is planed for November, 3rd (only 3 weeks before theatrical release).
I also couldn't observe special marketing campaigns for the film.

I hope that I'm wrong, but I guess that Serenity will draw only about 500.000 viewers into the cinemas (a successful film has at least 1.5 million viewers).

Nevertheless I'm really looking forward to watch it.

Guten Tag,

I was next to a German Girl at the Melbourne Australia showing of Serenity. She seemed to know about it and certainly enjoyed it, now if only she tell her other 80 million German friends we may have a little vibe happening.

It wasn't/isnt that well known or advertised in Australia either, but is having moderate theatre run.

The DVD release right before the movie release might be a good sign, if there's any kind of promotion of the DVDs.

I'm guessing you're writing from Germany yourself - nice to know there are at least some fans there. Have fun with the show!

"Do you know what your sin is, Captain?"
"Well, I'm a fan of all seven."
"But I think this time I'll go with Wrath."

I agree with your assessment of "Serenity"s outlook at the box office in Germany. It is not doing that well in America. This is unfortunate, because this is, by most measures, a good movie. I saw it for the second time this past Sunday. I didn't see anything that I missed the first go-round but I had just as much fun.

I am unsure how well this movie will do outside America because it depends so heavily on the American mythos of the Wild West. Some references that might be apparent to American audiences might be lost to others.

The film's plot involves a good if familiar story. Band of ruffians have something the government wants. Chases and violence ensue. But the dialogue is witty and intelligent and the action is first-rate. The ensemble acting is very good.

Check it out; this film is worth a look.

I'm disappointed to hear that. I thought it had a big following in Germany because I met two German exchange students recently and both were fans of the show(via download) and were stoked for the upcoming movie.

Well, as I said... I hope I underestimate the size of the German fanbase. As far as I'm concerned, I found informations and about Firefly on the internet only. Maybe many fellow Buffy/Angel fans went the same way to see what Mr. Wheadon has done after vampire slaying ;) .

It would be interessting to know if the series has been shown in other European countries.
