don't make me have to say it again. well ok i never said it a first time but if i did and had to be made to say it a second time i would most certainly demand you never demand of me to say it again. i swear if you make me repeat this i will forget why or how i ever wondered why you or whoever you think you are wanted me to wonder why i should ever want me to repeat this. am i making myself clear? don't make me have to say it again.

Oh, and Chrisisall - Serenity ROCKED! I loved every minute of it - it blew SW out of the sky!
erm -probably spoilers now:

Select to view spoiler:

River is very cool when she's kicking ass, and SIMON AND KAYLEE!!!!! I'm so happy about that; if they'd let the sexual tension build much more I think I may have imploded! I also thought it was great that we finally learned more about the Reavers - although I'm a bit annoyed that it now seems (unlikely?) that we will ever find out about Shepherd Book's mysterious past. Damn. And did you notice that it never actually points out that Inara is a companion? I had to explain that to everyone I took to the cinema who hadn't seen the series.

I'm actually quite proud of myself - I went to the cinema last Saturday with 8 friends - 4 of whom had never even seen Firefly. I have also lent my Firefly DVD's out to someone who'd seen the movie in the hopes that she'd go out and buy it - and now she's a huge fan (she watched 5 eps in 1 night)!

I loved the film - the only thing that disappointed me was the general lack of response from the public. Will we ever get our sequels?

FLF's BACK PEOPLE!

FLF, since last we talked I got Angel series 2 and Buffy series 5- liked them both (still goin' thru Angel), but they both bring me back to the thought that Dark Angel is so rock solid with it's characterizations; both Angel and Buffy have their characters change suddenly for the funny, or for the shock value, they seem to be okay with 'playing' with their people to tell a story, and Dark Angel always remained true to the characters, and told the story with and around them, not over them (makin' any sense here?)
Lucky for us that Serenity and FF are as rock solid, I think Joss has grown immensely as a writer and film-maker.

Nice to have you back here.

I agree (sort of) about the characters in Buffy and Angel - although I just tend to see that as facets of their characters. But I do love those two shows immensely. I also know what you mean though, about Joss having improved as a writer - FF and Serenity are above and beyond what most writers will ever achieve.
DA will also always hold a special place in my heart - even with only two seasons, and I have to admit that it is always true to it's characters. Hell, I love 'em all! Do you find it weird though that James Cameron also directed both Terminators 1&2 and Titanic? I think it's rather odd. To say the least.

OK, do you reckon a pony, a plastic rocket AND a whole bunch of sequels is too much to ask of one deity?

Chisisall: I may have misunderstood your point,
but I thought you might be interested in reading this article by one of the Buffy writers about the ways stories are 'broken' on Buffy (and Angel):
http://www.fireflyfans.net/firefly/espenson.htm
because they start with the character's emotional arc
NOT with the plot,
it is a whole different school of writing where the plot supports what they hope is the natural growth of the character
(or brings out new facets of the personality)
instead of having the action be the point & purpose.

I loved Dark Angel, I'm not saying anything against it, but I'll bet they start from a different place when they developed their plots.

And I have to say I'm a little disappointed,
this thread HAD been ... well... less of a real thread,

BTW FLF (such a long name you have):

Select to view spoiler:

Joss always loves his backstories, I'm sure we can still learn more about Book's past, not as a 'pre-quel' but as a backstory/flashback that is part of a future story

Hey great sig Rolemancer!
Anyhoo - good point

Select to view spoiler:

they could do it with flashbacks etc. but would Ron Glass be interested? I really hope so. I think it would make a good premise for the next movie - or at least a good sub-plot. I just have to say again (while I've 'spoilered' my thread and still can) how glad I am about Simon and Kaylee! Finally! And it cracked me up when River poked her head through the hole in the ceiling! It was hilarious!

Well, hope you're right!
Oh, and how many times have you seen the movie?
I know it's not very impressive compared to some people, but I'm skint and am going to see the movie for the third time tonight!

Also - I love DA, Buffy and Angel, (as well as Firefly obviously) and think they're all about equally good, with Firefly just nosing in front - especially if it had been allowed to continue for 7 seasons.

To hell with this! I'm gonna live!

I think Buffy characterization is still best; Angel i'm not as sure about. Angel characters move little from where they started from, buffy characters are more like leaves in the wind. I suspect that given enough time, firefly characters can approach the level of buffy characters though. Jayne, Mal, Inara, are pretty much still archetypes, Kaylee, Simon maybe a little more complicated, River is much more complicated. Anyway, something to look forward to. By growth I don't mean that I want to see Jayne become not-Jayne, like some Worf wuss or something, but more sides. Maybe he has problems understanding the way people feel, or perhaps he understands other people's feelings and just doesn't care. What events in his past make him more afraid of Reavers than the rest of them? Stuff like that.

EVILBUNNIES

Gotta post this...otherwise I don't get to play with all the randomites. Initiations are a must. Post #2. 1 more to go...

A poem.

My broken bicycle sits all alone
While I try my best to conduct this poem.
I found the buckin bronco Matt, its safe now
If she ever stole it, I don't know how.
Never mix flapjacks and turkey together
A Fannypack full of money will make one feel much better.
Sadly I don't know to how to work crisyllis into this poem
Anyone else agree Sean's abs are completely toned?
At long last this poem is done, I'll leave you to muse
That once my fake husband went on a gay cruise.

Mal: Define interesting.
Wash: Oh god, oh god, we're all gonna die?
