Have you noticed a trend in the bad guys of Firefly/Serenity? Not the minor bad guys, but the main "big bads". They don't die. Niska's not dead. Patience is still around. Badger's not dead (thankfully). We never saw Early die. Ath is alive.

Select to view spoiler:

Even frickin' Dobson had a come back -- and who knows if he's really dead again. And then the Operative.

I wouldn't be surprised if they all showed up one day together.

Um...

Dobson was shot in the head. There's no way he was still alive when they threw him off Serenity in the pilot episode. Where did you see him come back?

Thanks! I guess so! They're on my list along with the Visual Companion and the novelization of the movie.

Huh? Of course I do! And I want new bad guys, and not-sure-whether-they're-bad-guys-or-not, and all sorts of other characters.

I was just answering the question about Dobson is all. Don't know how you got the idea I was disagreeing with you. Sorry if I gave that impression inadvertently.

Well if Firefly ever makes a series comeback it better be soon. Niska was lookin kinda crusty... don't imagine he'll be with us much longer.

Sorry I didn't buy into the "Oracle" replacement boatload of manure from Matrix.

Run away. Ruhhhhhhhhn away.

I kind of wonder if they didn't kill off Book cuz maybe Whedon is hedging his bets. Maybe the show can come back, but Ron Glass might be all corpsified by then. No disrespect intended... love the old fella, grew up watching him on Barney Miller. He still remains a marvelous actor, but let's face it. Resurrecting Firefly feels a lil bit like trying to raise the Titanic at the moment. Might happen, but if it does it's looking like a long-term effort.

Eh. Book is dead anyhow. Point is moot.

Such a waste.

No such thing as gravity. The "Earth-that-was" just sucks.

oh my bad...I misunderstood...I'm sorry DonCoat!

anyway I was just thinking that Joss likes to keep his options open,
and the very best bad guys return to fight another day....

But ZeroGravity:

Select to view spoiler:

I don't think Ron Glass is very old, I think he is just in his fiftes, I doubt if anyone is planning on his kicking it in the near future!
BUT he was one of the more reluctant to sign on for three movies,
we are told that everyone signed on for all three,
but it could be that Joss was respecting that reluctance.
Ron Glass has a foundation he created & runs which takes a lot of his time & energy so I'm not sure he wanted the committment to making future films that 'Serenity' represented.
But of course I don't KNOW anything, just there are rumors that float around.
Personally I think Book will return, in back story or as a clone....
(this is Sci-fi of course)

Was Badger a bad guy? I thought he was still a business partner?

Who I want to see come back:

Select to view spoiler:

I wantto see the operative come back in the third , or maybe the end of the second trilogy as a good gut or at least as someone who helps the crew. That Guy was fricken cool bad guy!

I like that trend also. To add to it - YoSaffBridge is still alive (probably locked up), the Sheriff guy from The Message, the marshal from Jaynestown... Not to mention some not-so-bad, but equally annoyed folks like the former owner of the Lassetter...

I wouldn't be surprised if Patience were dead though.

Select to view spoiler:

That Reaver ship quite likely would have hit Whitefall after Serenity got away from it at the end of the pilot.
And Whitefall was one of the places that The Operative had wiped out in the movie

I'm thinking some kind of jazz band ... lets see now ...

Niska, of course, on sax;
Badger would make a cool percussionist; and
Yo-Saf-Bridge would have to be Nico style vocalist ...

yeah, but the way I see it

Select to view spoiler:

Mal and the crew will be fighting the Blue Hand guys, in a corner, almost dead...
when they are suddenly cut down from the rear...

Mal looks up in shock (because he didn't have back up)
and there stands the Operative who says
"they lied to me, they took my life, my name, everything from me...all for a lie"
and he turns and walks away....

Zoe said: "I thought we were goners"

Mal says: "no,
that was Joss' other movie which will also come out through Universal Pictures"

Just my thoughts.

Select to view spoiler:

I don't know... with the plaintive way that the Operative said, "There is nothing more to see" (sorry if it's not the exact wording, this is off the top of my head here), I felt he was almost saying he wouldn't be around anymore. Considering the man's dedication to his job, and the way he required it of others when they messed up their part in the work, I had a feeling he might throw himself on his sword. Of course, he also saw the error of it enough to let the Serenity crew go free, so it's possible he's given up that level of extremism.

P.S. I'm a big fan of Badger. He's a fun character, and the actor plays him well (liked his work on The X-Files too... he's very talented).

Sherry

BADGER: Only I think you're still a Sergeant, see. Still a soldier, man of honor in a den of thieves. Well, this is my gorram den, and I don't like the way you look down on me. I'm above you. Better than. I'm a businessman, see? Roots in the community. You're just a scavenger.
MAL: Well, maybe I'm not a fancy gentleman like you with your... very fine hat... but I do business. We're here for business.

Yes but, as I mentioned briefly in another thread, Joss really wrapped up Lindsey's story in Angel. In the episode Dead End, Angel said something like "Don't come back." And Lindsey said he wouldn't. There was no door open that maybe he will and yet he did. This seemed an extreme parallel (I'm quite sure not intentional, just in writing style) while watching Serenity.

I too am a big fan of Badger. Someone mentioned a while back that Badger would have no place in the story, but I think Mal could have been negotiating with him instead of those twins. Don't know why he'd be off Persephone, but if he didn't die, I would have liked to see Badger in Serenity. I still haven't seen that episode of X-Files! I've looked all over, but don't want to buy the box set just to see one episode once.

Above someone asked if Badger is really a bad guy or not. I suppose you're right, but he's really slippery. He did take the crew "captive" (sort of) in Shindig, but he pulled through on the deal, unlike in the pilot where he left them with the stamped goods. Watches his back -- can't blame him for that, but not the highest sense of dignity. And wasn't he selling slaves or something in the pilot?

Select to view spoiler:

Oh yeah, Early is dead as Mal says "Air he had left, chance'd be one in
about a very big number.", Line from Firefly transcript on Twiztv.com Also, Dobson was shot in the head in the pilot episode so the only way he's comming back is if Willow suddenly joins the cast.

With Joss, if you don't see him die, there's a chance he's not dead. Heck, if they're DEAD, there's still a chance. As far as Dobson, as mentioned above ...

he comes back in the comic book
