I agree with Corncobb that we need to show our appreciation. I posted on the kvetching page, because I always have kvetching to hurl at Joss, no matter how much I love him. But let's not just say, "It was great! I've seen it 100 times!" I am curious about specifics. What were your favorite parts? I was happy to finally see River in action, as was only beginning to happen in the series. Summer is amazing. I enjoyed the theme of "belief" that ran through the whole film. Looking forward to unraveling that more on my next viewing. Seeing the Reavers all blasting in behind Serenity was thrilling. And I thought the actors all did a great job. Well, I'd watch Nathan Fillion read the phone book, but still...good work!

These are just random off the top of my head. Definitely must watch it again.
Anyone care to share specific points?

"Pain is scary."

SHINY

The cadence of Chewitel Ejiofor's voice as the Operative. Polite, unassuming, with a deadly menace in the pauses.

This is such an obvious spoiler header that I will dispense with the spoiler tags. I suggest you edit the heading if possible to add "Spoilers."

The best part was for me, River going medieval on the reavers. This is why I've been using the buffy signature, a line which I feel much better describe this scene than that one which it comes from.

I'm going to kill them all. That oughtta distract 'em.

I still need to collate all of my favorite parts, but I completely agree with dreamtrove that it was very fun seeing River take out the Reavers.

My only concern is that now that she is both seemingly pretty sane as well as uber-kick-ass that she might be a bit too powerful for the show to continue. There's a reason they had to come up with Kryptonite— a truly invincible Superman would be pretty boring. River, while not as invulnerale and powerful as Superman, is a seriously overgunned for being a part of our crew of small-scale BDHs. I wonder how Joss will deal with this issue in future story-telling.

On my first viewing I somehow missed River's, "My turn," but I kept seeing it quoted on the boards, so I kept asking myself, "When did she say that?"

Second time around, I paid better attention, and in the context of, "You've always taken care of me! My turn," the tears just welled up.

Summer as River is a Force of Nature, so I loved every second she was on screen: From her "Bullet in the brainpan. Squish!" scenes to her out-Buffying Buffy in the fight arena.

Almost as magical were The Operative's words, "This is a good death. There is no shame in this."

River's kryptonites are many.

One, she might go looney and switch off at any point.

Two, she has a trigger word to make her sleep, and undoubtedly others to make her obey commands to kill everyone.

Three, it's a foregone conclusion that she will be unable to attack alliance forces directly. No one builds the perfect killing machine and then provides themselves no protection. We've only seen her go on a long mad killing spree against the reavers. If she were to do it against the alliance they would undouubtedly have many failsafe measures.

It's really going to suck when she mal zoe and jayne go up against the alliance and they get into hand to hand combat, and a handler walks in and says some codeword, and then "river, kill mal" and she blows mal's head off.

That's gonna majorly put a crimp in the plans.

Absolutely!

This is the turning point of the film. Up until then, we're on the run, we've lost some of our dearest friends, the Reavers are tearing the BDHs apart, the Operative has Mal down for the count, and River is a quivering mess.

With that one line, everything changes. It's like the first ray of dawn bursting over the horizon after a cold black hopeless night.

It's the moment that counterbalances the horrible loss a few scenes earlier -- the moment when all the sacrifice pays off, when we start to think that things just may, after all, be okay. As far as I'm concerned, it's the reason Serenity was made.

In another thread I described it as heartstopping. I'm having the same feeling right now just writing about it.
