The sun of SERENITY shone most brightly on Zoe/Gina. Not only did Gina look INCREDIBLE but I thought Zoe was the most intriguing character and that she owned just about every scene she was in. Of course the events of the film affected her most, and that's a large part of it. But even before that scene (and you know the one I mean) I found Zoe to be the best developed (not necessarily the most, just the best) character of the lot.

Am I alone out here in the black?

Tis true. While I will always be ready to say good things about the lovely Miss Glau, all the ladies do very well too, and Gina maybe more than most, what with all the Mal-argueing time she gets.

WEREALLJUSTFLOATING

Yeah Zoe was never one of my most favourite characters - I liked her, especially her sense of humour - but if the film changed my mind bout anything it was my estimation of her strength.
And of course credit must go to Gina herself, I'm glad she was given the chance to play such a fantastic part.

The only thought I could actually form after Wash died was 'Oh my God, she really is the strongest person in the crew'. I also thought for a few minutes that while she wanted to win the fight against the Reavers, she wasn't looking to come out of it alive. So glad she did though!

Mal: We're still flying.
Simon: That's not much.
Mal: It's enough.

yeah I agree, werealljustfloating:

I was afraid she was going to succeed in committing suicide, she looked like she wanted to die,
actually SHE was the one who made me sob,
everytime I saw her bleak emotionless face, it just tore me up inside and made me cry (sob aloud) into my sleave...
she completely broke my heart with her repressed emotions...
and I hope a big damn sequel allows us to see more of the changes she will inevitably go through

I think the entire cast and crew deserve a very big Thank You and Well Done. Taking a show from TV to film can't be an easy task, and they all did a marvelous job with it. So, if any of you are lurking, thank you for a job well done.

Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

You're not alone out there. Gina Torres was terrific in the BDM. She's terrific in everything. In Internets terms, she r0xx0rz. She PWNZ.

More and more I think if they don't tap her to play Wonder Woman, they'll have miscast.

Gina certainly showed the dignity, stature, maturity, and gravitas necessary to play Wonder Woman. If Joss decides to go non-trad in his adaptation and choose Gina--I'll back that move all the way.

Everybody's comments have convinced me even more that SERENITY was *this* close to being Zoe's movie. A couple of more choice scenes and she'd be in Best Supporting Actress territory. Not that the Academy would ever nominate her but she would deserve it.

By the way, I have no idea what r0x0rz and PWNZ mean.

Sorry, that's what happened to me being in the video game biz for a few years - I picked up on dorky net.speak. "r0xx0rz" is "rocks", here, "she rocks." PWNZ is similar, an intentional typo for "owns", which is a longer story - more or less synonymous with "r0xx0rz".

In human English-type language, I think Gina is a fine actress.

LUCIDDREAMS

Yeah, I have to agree. Though I think the others were pretty impressive too, especially Mal and River (by the way, anyone else majorly annoyed that many of Morena's scenes were cut?).

Anyways, the first time I saw the movie I was disappointed by Zoe's reactions to, er, well, certain events. She seemed to take everything so calmly. But the second time I caught it. Her performance was just beautiful. She was subtle and totally true to her character.

And her first reaction to what happened was so heartbreaking. It was so perfect and so effective because we were seeing this incredibly strong character break down completely in one moment. That was the first time we've ever seen her drop her guard and she nearly got herself killed

So Gina Torres is definitely becoming one of my favorite actors.

The "he ain't coming" moment always hits me far harder than *the* moment does. Everyone elses' expressions and Gina's cold, methodical shotgun loading are heart-wrenching.
