RAYTHEATER

I have seen the movie 4 times now. Everytime I am at the edge of my seat during the "wash" incident, and when River whoop the Reaver's collective @sses. Enjoyed the movie every single time, and my only wish for the movie was a longer River fight scene.
I am however dissappointed that there are no other means to support the movie. Where are the toys? Can I have a firefly model? (both the normal and the reavered-up one please)
Where are the lunch boxes?
I know they don't want most of the items end up in the clearance isle. So, sell it through the offical website, price hike it a little and I am willing to support the movie! I have bought the cards...now, give me the models!

So, there's not going to be a model out right?

There will be eventually...as long as they know there's a bunch load of fans to sell it to. There's the angel and buffy toys and etc. I hope in due time there will be more than mal (2 versions), jayne (3 versions-one froma convention), and reaver toys.

But i agree! A model ship would be really shiny. ^_^

I'm sure hoping there will be...
but I'm starting to think I should just make a Serenity pillow
(a pillow in the shape of the ship)
because I love her and I want to sleep with ...

.
.
okay, too much information

There ARE Serenity action figures, aren't there? Not quite a model of the ship, but it's a start.

Unless I've gone crazy, I saw them at my local Newbury Comics.

(Actually, I thought they were pretty ugly. I would much prefer a ship model.)

Where's the t-shrit that says "Reavers ate my homework"?
Better yet, where are the poster, billborads and ads on sides of buses. Every day I see these things for other films, still even for flightplan. Have yet to see one for Serenity. Even the thater I went to see the film had no posters up...go figure.
As for a model I think maybe the company Northern Lights, which seems to have picked up the old AMT line of tv and film spaceships, might be able to handle the job

It's a nothing part til you don't got one, then you have to go to ebay.....aaaaagh!

Do you mean a pillow in the shape of a silhouette of Serenity, or a three-dimensional pillow (which I call a stuffed animal/ship but apparently there is a difference.) If you mean three-dimensional, and you do make it, please share the plans you make, I can put together something like that, but figuring out what shapes to cut out and sew together is not my strong point.

Try looking over at Starshipmodelers. A few Firefly fans hang out there, and there's a couple discussions right now on a model of our favourite ship. There seems to only be a couple of scratchbuilds (one of which looks absolutely fantastic, and *might* be kitted for the general population) and one horribly inaccurate and unauthorized recast.
However, as modeling goes, Serenity is a horribly difficult ship to create, so it might be sometime before someone actually releases a model or kit of it.

Does Blue Sun sponser the Blue Man Group?

Actually I wouldn't be suprised if we have enought knowledge/talent amongst us to so this ourselves if there was enough interest.

What I am thinking of (there are several terms for this) is 3d Printing. For those of you not familiear with this.. it is suprisingly simple.. basically based off of inkjet technology. There are a couple of variations.. but it's basically just printing an object from 3d geometry.. one thin layer at a time.

You can check out www.3darttopart.com is a just one of many "printing" services where you can see quite a few examples.

It's unlikely we could get our hands on the actual geometry used in the show/movie.. that would be AWSOME!!! But I know there are some of us who are or who have or are working on building a 3d model of serenity. For printing it.. there are a few things you have to make sure the geometry adhears to, because 3d printing doesn't always allow for "sloppy" modeling that you can get away with if you are just rendering it. But if the model is tight.. then it's just about a simple matter of "printing" it.. and what you end up with is basically a resin like model.. it still needs to be painted and such if you want to finish it off.. but there you have it.

The probelm is.. I doubt any of us have access to a 3d printer considering the cheapest ones are still in the 30K range. However.. depending on the size one would want it printed.. it would probably cost about $150-$200 bucks for a 10" long model. Any bigger than that and the model would have to be split up and printed in pieces and assembelled.. but by doing so you could have a much bigger model. Of course that's going to cost even more... probably $75-$150 per piece you are printing. They usually charge by volume.

The beauty of it is.. the actual physical printed model can be as detailed as one would care to make the 3d geometry. You want actual geometry bullet holes in the side of the ship.. or rivits? As long as they are modeled in 3d.. and the ship printed big enough.. they will be there in the printed out model.

But that's probably more expensive than most of us want to spend. But the thing is.. to make more of them so that they aren't all that expensive to make.. once one model is printed.. a mold of it can be made and then more models can be cast from that mold much cheaper. And out of whatever material you want.

And it doesn't have to be just a model of Serenity.. it could be anything... not happy with they typical cheesy action figures of our BDHs??? Nothing to say that statues of our BDHs couldn't be made the same way... All we would need is a high detailed 3d geometry. If someone cared to make it. I have been thinking about that myself... But it hadn't even occured to me till now to possibly "print" them out. I was just wanting to see something between a couple of our BDHs... and figured I will just have to do it myself.. So I was considering soon working on creating hi-res 3d models of some of our BDHs.. Maybe cool small statues of them will be the next step..

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

A model of Serenity would be shiny. I would love to have one in my den, or the "Firefly Chamber" as my wife has taken to calling it since my collection keeps growing.

Maybe someone could convince Hallmark to make a light up Christmas ornament of Serenity. A browncoat can dream, right?
