I work for a Clonewars website, and we're part of the Dark Horse comics mailing list for upcoming things. They just talked about the Serentiy trade paperback, and they also mentioned this:

Look for the Serenity DVD release in spring 2006!

A little later than December, as it's been reported, but that's a quick release.

Spring?
No. That's not "quick" at all.
In fact, judging by how quickly things come out on DVD, that's kinda late.
I was thinking that in order for Uni to really make some bank on the back-end, the DVD would probably be out just in time for Xmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza/Solstice/Add-Your-Winter- Celebration-Here.
Amazon would do a 2-fer Special: Serenity + Firefly DVD Set.
They would make mad bank with that combo.
Hell, I already have a (very well-worn) DVD set and I'd buy it again with Serenity.
I know I'm not alone.

Oh, and because studios now factor in DVD sales and cable distro in their numbers, ya gotta be positively thinking that there will be at least one Serenity sequel. If not two.

I agree, the commentary and the specials for the DVD tracks looks pretty good already. All of the menus and whatnots don't take that long to finalize... At this point, they ought to try really hard to get it out the door for the Holiday buying season... It might be a mistake to try to *not* capture that.

I wonder if they're trying to avoid the risk that it would get lost in the Holiday crush? Some very good video games never had a chance because they were overwhelmed by holiday blockbusters. Anyone ever play or hear of the critically acclaimed Beyond Good and Evil? I don't know if the dynamic would be similar for DVDs.
