So I just picked this up and read through it. A friend of mine's contemplating running a game. So, being the dedicated fellow nerds that you guys are I was curious:

1) How many of you play it.

2) What you think of it both on its own and compared to other PnPs.

3) If there's a collective on the internet out there JUST for the RPG because Margarette Weis's website has got de nada on the subject, not even an erratta yet (which, as a nerd in good standing I felt the compulsion to email my dim view of that practice).

1. I will be playing it in the future. Currently playing in a Vampire:tM game.

2. You can tell the book was rushed. Typos, Grammitical Errors, Sentences that have been cut off and their severed ends mysteriously disappearing. As for the system I like it for how simple it is. I haven't had a chance to play test yet, but they have taken elements from other games ie. ShadowRun and Vampire that I love. The Advancement Points make it so there are no levels. I dislike experience based game play about most RPGS (although I do enjoy playing D20). And the Wounds Vitality is not ridiculous, You get cut two three times, you will die. That's that.

I like that it's more about the story.

3. The mechanic of dx mechanic is okay, but not as great as dicepool games (again Shadowrun and Vampire). We will just have to see.

I'd love to contribute my idle ideas to some Serenity RPG collective and hope that the movie does well so that Weise's company spends a little more time making a higher quality line of products.

I wonder if there's a collective of the Roleplayers of this game yet.

But yes it was rushed. It was that incomplete and adbrupt end to Chapter One (that ended in midsentence for the curious) that prompted the email.

I aim to misbehave.

The Serenity RPG is actually more strongly based on a system called Savage Worlds, where all dice are used, there are no levels, and damage is done by wounds.

It's useful when getting started to think of your players as characters in a story. The system is designed to be alittle more close to what real life would be (or as close as you can get in a fantasy world role playing scenario lol). There's finances, taking a bullet hurts a ton (as it should), and your skills are based on not only your ability in a skill, but on your physical or mental attribute as well.

All in all, I think this is a fantastic system. But my favorite (probably forever) is Deadlands. :)
