Think this means Serenity, too? (original link: http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2005-10-05/film/1)

Universal To Put Its Movies Online
Universal expects to be able to offer movies online by the end of the year or early next year, company chairman and CEO Bob Wright said Tuesday. Speaking at a conference on piracy in London, Wright described the studio's entry into online movie services as "something we have to do." However, he cautioned, the studio's entry into the Internet sphere must be accompanied by fail-safe methods to prevent the films from being copied and redistributed. "These movies are so expensive, we have to be careful," he said.

Assuming it happens, it will undoubtedly include Serenity. No sooner than the DVD release, however. And I'm willing to predict that the DVD will be better quality than anything you could download.

What I'm looking forward to is high-def DVD (Blu-Ray or DVD-HD). For those of us so equipped, that will be a HUGE jump in quality. Yum.

More than that, I have a great home theater set up I want to play movies from disc where I can watch with a great picture and sound not to metion my nice comfy couch!

As for HD and Blu-Ray, oh joy another format war is all I can say right now. I don't plan to buy either until it's steeled one way or the other.

I was watching Sunday Morning Shootout a couple of weeks ago and a guest was talking about how soon movies will open in theatres and there will be simultaneous DVD release.
Notice how DVDs are coming out faster and sooner after a movie opens?
The studios are preparing to release movies, their DVDs, cable and download all at the same time.
Me? I like the big screen experience.
Some movies need that. (To this day, I regret not seeing "The Matrix" on the big screen.)
And some movies need the cathartic experience of seeing it bigger than life with an audience.
Unfortunately, more and more people don't get that part of it and they're the ones who buy crappy bootlegs and/or wait 'till the movie hits the stores or cable and never see films on the big screen.
Also, more and more, who wants to deal with ignoramuses and morons who ruin the movie experience with cell phones, their little children who shouldn't be a certain movies, and just flat-out rude behaviour?
