Are FFF folks a calmer bunch?

So I was over at the O-Board a lot during this weekend (since I couldn't get through to FFF). I notice that about half the threads over there are dedicated to some form of hand-wringing over how much money the BDM is making and (related to that) whether or not there'll be a sequel.

But then FFF came back up and over here...none of that.

So here's my question: why are we not hyperventilating like they are?

We're Browncoats and we have faith and believe in holding a steady course when things get tough?

Haken has spoken! But what is their problem, then?

Two reasons:

1) We were up and down this weekend so people didn't post.

2) For me, it's done now. There's not much else I can do. I've seen the movie...multiple times. I've told all I can. I've spread the word. I've blogged....now I just sit and wait for the numbers and the dvd release. I was patient before I can be patient again.

and yeah, FFF is a bit more level headed at times....at times, not always :-)

Yes and no. I agree with Thatweirdgirl that the ball is now in the movie's court (though I'm taking the opportunity to push it on people who look like they need to go see a movie), and that this board in general has that feeling.

Then again, I've run across a handful of posts in spoilery threads that caught some readers by surprise and got angry answers. Apart from that I agree that FFF.net is running serenely, on faith - that, or we know that the preaching needs to be done somewhere other than on a forum full of the converted.

Generally we are a bit more level headed...definitely a close knit crew (not crewneck, that's different!). Granted, I do get caught up in the numbers game pretty easily, but I do find FFFnet much less stressful to visit. And god bless the folk here for that!

We have been up and down so much in this quest that we just expect everything to look bad and then turn around in a way that amazes all the doubters. Miracles are routine for this bunch.

Numbers are beginning to damage my calm. Then I come around here and remember that, yeah, Firefly is the thing that defies all reason, and that's sort of why I love it.

No, no! Not one or the other. I definitely prefer FFF (shout out to Haken), but I haunt both. I have, though, notice a certain difference in tone between the two. The O-Board seems...I don't know...more fanboy-ish. Folk here seem to be more of the feet-on-the-ground type, not so much obsessive as dedicated. I must confess that the numbers do worry me, but I also have my history with the 'verse to reassure me. Of all the folks I've tried to convert, only one would up not taking to it. On opening night we had a mini-shindig (watched Serenity parts I and II, then went to the BDM). We had one FF virgin, and now she's a dedicated Browncoat. I guess that's what we have to hope for. Don't know if you noticed, but the FF box set is at #2 in Amazon's DVD again. That means that folk who were never exposed to the 'verse are watching the BDM, then buying the series. All we have to do is have faith in Joss' vision and be the footsoldiers for his cause. Get out there and spread the word, go to the movie, drag your friends/relatives/acquaintances, and just keep flying! The fact that we got Serenity to the silver screen means we've done the impossible, and, well--you know the rest. As been's said elsewhere--we hold.

Flying on duct tape and a damaged registry.

I signed up on the OB to check it out, as I was all twitchy with FFF.net doing the yo-yo and all.

A bit more fanboyish and obsessive over there, but a good bunch. I did feel like I was being watched by Blue Sun, as obviously it is a commercial site. (Yay, Universal! )

It feels more laid back here.

I'll just go watch the BDM a few more times...

Good thing to have servers in Hawaii. Arguably the best waves on the planet!

I'll stop (for) now.

Nah, nah, nah.. Them servers are in Australia actually, and the waves are much better down under...

Felt the server bounce and go yo-yo, did ya? Haken *really* needs newer equipment, the stuff fff.net is running on is *really* outdated and can't really handle this kind of load... Think about how much you've missed the site when you needed it and chip in a few. Hel Haken get newer equipment and you are really helping yourselves and all the fans.

You've got to remember, this site has been around a VERY long time. Not to sound like a soldier at war, but, we've seen our hopes get up, then get dashed against the rocks before. FFF.net was as close to therapy as we all got. Prospero was nice, but fansites like this are always going to be better. I can personally attest to how cool the people here are, as I can say I've made some friends along the way.

When people ask why I love the show so much, I give them 2 reasons:
1. Because when entertainment gets as good as this, you've got to get behind it, and .....
2. Because the fanbase consists of a great bunch of people.

I'm looking at it this way, if this is the end, so be it. I'll continue to do all I can to support it in whatever form it's in, even if it's just posting on a fansite to reminisce about what once was. It's been a great journey that I don't want to stop. So if the verse goes away, promise me that this site, and more importantly, all the great people on it won't.

Well said! Even though I personnally wasn't a huge fan of the movie, it doesn't mean I'm ready to give up on Firefly or for that matter future Serenity flics.

Ya gotta ask yourself one question....What colour is your coat?

I'd say this, regardless of what happens with Firefly or Serenity, I'll keep this site up and running.

FFF.NET will always be the homebase to other sites I build in the future for any series and movies that Joss Whedon or any of the original Firefly writers and actors are on.
