I'm just curious what else he's worked on besides buffy, angel, and firefly, if anything.

I couldn't think of the right words to use for a search engine(and am feeling very stupid about it...)

Yeah, thanks to anyone who helps me!

Well, the IMDB info on Joss Whedon is a little skewed, and some stuff needs explaining to put it in proper context.

The Animated Projects: Joss, I believe, was never involved with Atlantis: The Lost Empire. As for Titan A.E., he wrote an inital draft, one that wasn't used.

Alien: Resurrection: Joss's script for Alien: Resurrection is actually really good, despite the final result. Some things were illogically changed by the director (who also directed Amelie), changes which were devestating to Joss.

Toy Story: He was part of the Academy Award winning group who collaborated on the Toy Story screenplay.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the Movie: Joss wrote the original script, obviously, and was again devestated by the final product... which was altered significantly by Donald Sutherland (or so the story goes).

He also worked on several projects not listed on IMDB:

Speed: He was hired to doctor (rewrite dialogue, tighten plot points, etc) the screenplay for Speed. He's said that this is the only movie he can stand to watch of all of the films he's worked on.

X-Men: He was hired to polish up the script but decided the whole thing needed to be rewritten. His draft was thrown out except for the two best lines in the movie.

Waterworld: Like Speed, he played a big part in doctoring the script. Supposedly, he hates the final product.

There is also his television work for Parenthood and Roseanne.

He comes from a long line of television writers. His dad wrote for The Golden Girls, Alice, and Captain Kangaroo, and his grandfather wrote for The Donna Reed Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Leave it to Beaver, and The Andy Griffith Show.

Let's see... The Onion A.V. Club did what is considered to be the definitative Joss Whedon inteview a couple years ago... it can be found here...

http://www.theonionavclub.com/avclub3731/avfeature_3731.html

and the 4,000 words that had to be excized from the interview can be found here...

http://www.theonionavclub.com/avclub3731/avfeature_3731b.html

And, after re-reading these articles, I am suddenly reminded just why Joss is my TV writing idol.

You are saying that his script for Titan A.E. was thrown out? who wrote the script they used? Because in the opening credits it says written by Joss Whedon. It's been a while since I've seen it, so i don't remember if there were co-writing credits (I remembered Joss because I love him... but I don't remember any one else being listed.)

The article was great reading. But it never mentions his Titan AE script.

The only thing Joss says about Titan AE is when he is talking about Atlantis: "The movie they made has nothing to do with that treatment, but I'm happier having my name on that movie than on Titan A.E."

I am curious in the story behind Titan AE.

This part of the Onion interview was interesting, assuming he was referring to Firefly:

Quote:

O: Besides Iron Man, are there any other scripts on the horizon?

JW: I have a script idea that I'm just developing, one of the things I really want to do, but it's still embryonic, so I don't want to say anything about it. Though I'm sure you can read all about it now on the Ain't It Cool website.

O: And you'd direct that yourself if it ever actually became a film?

JW: Yes. That's the next step.

Good. Thanks for the update.

Script writing is a very bizarre kinda world. We've only been connected to it periferally through the novelizatoins of the screenplays my husband has written, but one thing always remains the same: if your name was in the contract, and the contract says you are to be credited then you are credited no matter how many re-write committees the script is dragged through.

I believe the original writer of forthcoming THE EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING will still be credited even though there are very few pages of original script. Had Morgan Creek taken Steven's novelization and given it to someone else to be re-written instead of asking him to do the re-writes, he still would be listed as the author. Contract says so and thus it must be.

I was most surprised when I read back and found out he had worked on Roseanne, but then if you look at some of the other head writers of our time, they too have first worked on shows that are so very different to their normal staple.

JMS was on Murder She Wrote.
JJ Abrams did Felicity I believe its called, its never aired in the UK so never seen it, but I know its not like Alias.

Guess everyone's gotta start somewhere.

Just read the Onion article. Culled for irony purposes:

"I hadn't sold it (the Buffy movie script). I quit because I wanted to work harder, and I got a job on Parenthood, which ran for about 13 episodes. Which was a good show-good staff, good cast-that got eaten up by the network. So I had that experience, and after that I waned on TV and wanted to work more in the movies."
