Not that I ever agree with these guys (Ebert hated War of the Worlds mostly because the alien machines were tripods), but they're probably the best known reviewers in North America, so this is big. Plus, wouldn't it just be cool to have "Two Thumbs Up" on the back of the Serenity DVD?

I think Ebert is likely to thumbs-up Serenity. I generally tend to agree with him when he's not giving stupid rationalizations for a thumbs-down review (he TD'd Spider-man one because Spidey appeared to land too lightly on rooftops. Incidently, he Thumbs-upped Daredevil for the exact same reason.)

Roper is harder to predict, mainly because I don't pay enough attention to know what he likes.

"Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government."

While I sometimes disagree with his a few of his opinions, I'd think that if SERENITY were to have a Pulitzer Prize winning film critic champion it till his face was blue, I'd think Ebert would be it.

He put THE CELL on his ten best list for 2000 and SPIDER-MAN 2 in his top five of 2004. Let's hope he like it so much he puts the film at least on the bottom half of his list.

XANDER: (baby-talk) Who's a little fear demon?
C'mon, who's a lit-tle fear demon?
GILES: Don't taunt the fear demon.
XANDER: Why? Can he hurt me?
GILES: No, it's just… tacky.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Well, here's hoping that it gets two thumbs up!

Interestingly, on Ebert's Sun-Times page, there's an error in the caption for the "Serenity" review (which is coming soon). It says "Dancing on the ceiling: The less- than-serene Serenity (Summer Glau) finds that she's not in Sunnydale anymore (if she ever was)..."
I wonder whose mistake that was, and does is bode ill for Ebert's review (if he can't keep the characters straight?)

My wife and I watched the show last weekend almost exclusively to hear them mention at the end of the show that they would be reviewing Serenity next week. We were shocked when they didn't mention it. They mentioned Into the Blue (of course) and the golf movie. THE GOLF MOVIE???

That doesn't seem to bode well for their review of it next week.

You think he is sitting and writing captions on the website? I don't. I expect he types his review and someelse puts it on the website, and that everything else is written by other people.

I'm the guy who started those "Ebert & Roeper not reviewing Serenity!" threads a while ago, so this is a big relief.

They sure waited long enough to let us know - "Into the Blue" has been on Ebert's Opening This Week section since last week, the same goes for the "Upcoming Shows" section on the E&R site. The 3 different tv guide listings I checked have shown they would review every movie BUT "Serenity" for at least two weeks. It looks like "Serenity" was added at the last minute. Maybe they saw it later than the other movies?

I'm extremely glad we'll see an E&R review. The exposure will be great, even for a split decision. Two thumbs down would be bad, but E&R generally tend to forgive a lot if there's quality dialogue and character development, which it sounds like are "Serenity's" strong points.

You are right. Its copy editors that write captions and headlines, not the writers, well in most cases at least.

Of course, I'm kinda cheesed by Ebert's crack that "one part of the spaceship looks amazingly like a loading dock", and Roeper's reply about a lack of budget.

Guys! It's a transport ship!! You need a BIG room to hold BIG stuff in, and a BIG door to bring it in & out!

except that nothing in the movie TRULY stresses that it is a transport ship. All Ebert and Ropert know is that it's just a ship...they never actually carry cargo, just passengers in the film.
either way, it got 2 thumbs up...that's excellent.
