I've just been wondering something.

First, some background. I didn't come into Firefly from the beginning -- I got hooked about six weeks after the show first got on the air. Naturally, I was curious about "the pilot" -- both "The Train Job" and "Serenity". Also naturally, I didn't have any chance to see the -true- pilot since it was never aired. Nonetheless, I managed to track down some form of it via peer-to-peer file-sharing programs, because some soul out there was kind enough to track down the original rough-cut pilot and digitize it.

One must wonder, then, what will be the final fate of those completed-yet-unaired-as-yet eps...?

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

Likes to mess with stuffs.

The way I see it, it'll:

1. Never air (been known to happen).
2. FOX will air them before Summer.
3. UPN picks them up along with Firefly.
4. We'll see them on DVD.
5. Someone leaks them onto the net.

Hopefully, it'll be #3.

They'll probably never air.

#2 is a moot point now - FOX doesn't seem interested in airing anything Firefly anymore now that they've publicly cancelled it. They'll show you reruns of the movie Happy Gilmore like they always do when they can't fill a programming slot for 2 hours or a rerun of COPS.

#3 is a longshot. Would be nice. But UPN already has a Sci-Fi space show with a following that grew up on Star Fleet and The Federation and Phasers over the last 30 odd years.

#4 we'll see them on DVD - good possibility, did it for FarScape.

#5 someone leaks them onto the net - has been known to happen too. But probably won't.

The funny thing is, Fox hasn't officially canceled Firefly. According to them, the show is still on hiatus. Fox hasn't ordered any new scripts or episodes though which is why Joss and Tim are shopping Firefly around to other networks.

I predict we'll see the three unaired Firefly eps during the down time between Fox's bad taste reality shows in March (after sweeps).

It'll air in June, hidden form the public, right before the summer series launch and after May Sweeps. Remember FreakyLinks?

If you know anyone that can help my screenwriting career, please help! And yes, I am self-advertising here. Hehehe, me such a little devil.

If UPN or anyone else buys the series, they'll presumably make a deal for those episodes as well. Otherwise, Fox will likley show them during the summer.

you got that right

I don't see how Star Trek is our ennemy in this, yes it's another space show but who cares? UPN know how space show can become popular so it'll only help Firefly cause

Tim Minear(or was it Joss?) told us that a DVD WILL come out

I think I've heard that Heath of Gold is already out but I didn't look

I think they probably WILL air on Fox. Remember the Lone Gunmen? The show ended with episode 12. The network announced this as the series finale, yet weeks later, a previously unaired episode (Cap'n Toby) aired with no promotion whatsoever. As a result, I, like many others, missed it and it was never aired again. Thankfully I did eventually track it down.

So we should be sending postcards to Fox as well, sounds like.

"Give us the unaired episodes of Firefly!!"

I heard that 2 eps will be aired: one, the first Friday in Jan (tomorrow) and the second, the following Friday.
Getting my VCR prepped and lighting a candle for UPN picking up the show and at least giving it a complete season.

I was hoping you were right, but alas...

Fox has "The Nutty Professor" scheduled for Friday 1/3/03.

"Fastlane" moves into the Friday at 8PM timeslot starting on 1/10/03.

According to this article on AICN (which contains spoilers for Serenity), Fox is planning to air the three remaining episodes sometime in 2003 but no dates have been announced.

And, yes, Fox HAS officially cancelled Firefly. It has been announced by Joss to the cast and crew and they've packed up the set.

Our only hope now is if UPN picks them up. If you haven't visited the Firefly Immediate Assistance website ( http://www.fireflysupport.com/), please do so to find out what you can do. They have addresses where you can send letters and postcards to UPN to request that they pick it up. They also have addresses for sponsors to send letters or postcards to encourage their continued support on a new network.

I have a question about that... They have both CBS and UPN addresses listed on fireflysupport.com. My question is, are they hoping to get CBS to pick up the show, or is UPN a subsidiary of CBS? Does anybody know?

Also, that site is still suggesting writing to the affiliates. Did we decide this was not a good idea?

Officially, yes. Publicly, they're still hiding behind the cover story of "hiatus".

We gotta lobby FOX. The 'fly is pretty much dead, which is so sad, I like this show soooo much, all we can hope for are those three eps to be aired, and the DVD. UPN won't pick it up unless they start airing programming on Sundays. UPN is looking to find it's own programming and to leave the poaching days behind. It won't air during black comedy monday, not after buffy where other shows have attempted launches by UPN, not on Star Trek wednesdays. Not even UPN is stupid enough to put two spaceship shows together. However, ABC would...

Let's try ABC!!!! ABC execs originally tried to steal Buffy from The WB, and are looking for a big sci fi show. Lets go alphabet!

I'm serious here.

From what I understand, UPN is a subsidiary of CBS. Whatever Dawn at UPN decides to do needs to be cleared by Les at CBS. Also, writing to the affiliates is a good idea. If enough affiliates say to the head cheese, "Hey, what's with this show Firefly?" it may tip the scales in our favor. Sending anything other than postcards or letters is a BAD idea--ie NO blue gloves, apples, or flowers! It could start a scare that would cause damaging negative publicity and a subsequent witch hunt. This IS America after all.

I'm brand new here (just heard about FF being canceled), so please forgive me if this question's been asked.

Has anyone approached the Sci-Fi channel about picking it up? I know everyone's been pushing for UPN (and that would be great), but Sci-Fi's been doing some good things lately, too, with SG-1 and the Taken mini-series.

Thanks in advance,

Debra

On the other hand, they've also decided to cancel Farscape and have publicly stated they're moving away from "space-based" sci-fi. Moreover, they no longer broadcast solid sci-fi series like Babylon 5, and they've cancelled "The Invisible Man". SFC has gone downhill in a big way, and in my opinion they're definitely not to be approached.

General Joss Whedon is negotiating with UPN (where Buffy, one of his other shows currently resides).

We, as Whedon's ground troops, are providing postcard support until told to aim our artillery elsewhere. It's all about a focused, unified lobbying effort but you are welcome to send postcards wherever you like! It's all good.
