Hey all

I was thinking of writing a different kind of fanfic for the site. I think a better term for it would be a "meta-fic", actually. Basically, it takes place today, the day of the red carpet Hollywood premiere of SERENITY. And it would follow as each of the cast members got into discussions with their screen alter egos as they're getting ready for the big night, which would culminate with all 9 cast members sharing a limo with all 9 characters and Joss as well. And you'd see the crew's reactions as they hit the red carpet and see their real life selves being worshipped like gods. And maybe a coda of the characters coming up to Joss at the party to ask about where they'll be going with the sequels (cause you know, Joss is God to them)

My question is, what are the real cast member's like. I know that the people who have seen them live have only seen them at conventions or interviews and at times when they have their game faces on. But if you have any idea who they actually are as everday people, what are they like? I only ask this because when I'm writing Nathan and Sean telling Mal and Simon to lighten the fuck up, or Alan and Jewel hanging with Wash and Kaylee (I always thought that those two were exactly like their characters), or Zoe telling Gina how Morpheus is boring the hell out of her with "chosen one" this and "prophecy" that, I'd like to have it as close to the truth as possible.

So what are the cast members like in real life?

C'mon, who's a lit-tle fear demon?
GILES: Don't taunt the fear demon.
XANDER: Why? Can he hurt me?
GILES: No, it's just… tacky.

I haven't met these actors, but Alan was on Spike TV the other night, and I have to say that he seemed nothing like Wash...
Alan is Julliard trained and seemed kind of shy and out-of-place at the 'Casino Night' format of the Spike TV show...
I think Wash would have been louder and funnier,
and more obnoxious in such a situation
(like the inappropriate humor when being questioned by the Alliance).

Jewel has given a lot of interviews, and has her own blog, and sounds like someone who prides herself on being a lot less naive than Kaylee is.

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

Well, I have to say, that's an excellent idea for a story! I'd love to read that.

As for the castmembers, well I met Nathan Fillion and Morena Baccarin (well perhaps "met" is too much, as it sort of implies stopping around to chat for a while) as they signed items and had photographs taken with fans. Of course, how they act with fans and how they are on their own or with close friends could be wildly different, but I will say this. Nathan was nothing but kind and helpful, going out of his way to make sure everyone had had their items signed. Morena also, was kind and patient, waiting for me to get my camera working so that I could get a photo of her

If you listen to The Signal podcast, you might already know that Gina Torres admits that she's a lot "girlier" than Zoe. Listening to her interview on the podcast may be a good indication at getting into her character

And Ron? Well, the first thing that strikes me about him is his laugh. A good hearty laugh.

Short of stalking the cast, the best way to find out about the castmembers is by listening/reading interviews and reading experiences of fans (Which I suppose is what you hope to attain from this thread).

You might only hear positive things about them... but since when is that a bad thing? If you want to add little nuances to their character, then you could always make it up, or exagerate certain flaws. If you do this, then just make it clear to your readers that they are almost caricatures of the actors themselves

I don't know if I helped much. I do tend to ramble

They're all self-righteous bastards....and really don't like it when people hang around outside their homes late at night singing....well, except Ron Glass, he brings me cookies.

I've met Nathan, Jewel and Summer three times... Nathan is nothing short of kind, friendly, but at the same time VERY ironically funny and not shy of saying what he thinks, not in a 'foul mouthed' kinda way, but in a smooth, ironic/sarcastic way.

Jewel has a genuinely bubbly personality. Not in the Kaylee way, but she's outgoing, friendly, but isn't shy of letting a rant fly toward someone at times.

Summer is SOOOOOOO kind, thankful, and gracious it's untrue. In one weekend I saw her cry three times because of how much Firefly/Serenity, the cast, and the fans meant to her.

CALLMESERENITY

Let's see if I can help:

Adam was very nice to me when I got my autograph and picture. When he stood up, I said "Whoah, you're tall." (because he really is) and then felt like a complete moron for saying it. But he said "I can fix that.", and kind of squatted down next to me so I wouldn't look so short in the picture. Thoughtful. And at the D*C panels he was so funny. I missed seeing it, but a little boy went to the mike to ask a question and he had him come up to the front, stood him on the table and got him to ask his question in front of everyone.

And at the last panel, someone asked if she could have a hug and they all said sure and she came up and all three of them (Ron, Jewel and Morena) hugged her. I thought that was nice of them.

Ron is so warm. And he gives great hugs! He kept saying how much the fans meant to him, and you really believe it. And like someone mentioned, he's got a great laugh and a ready smile.

Morena is patient and sweet and can also be quite funny. The guy in front of us in the autograph line was having problems working his camera and after a few tries, she took it from him, wound it up, gave it back to him and said "It just takes strength". It was hilarious.

And Jewel was great, too. Girl likes to party! I couldn't do what they do, spending hours signing autographs and getting pictures and whatnot. Putting up with being asked the same mundane questions over and over again, I'd get snarky with people after awhile. But they all did it, and they did it with grace and smiles.

I don't really like listening to The Signal Podcasts because I find them incredibly dry and dull. They repeat a lot of info that we already knew, and they way they use the music and sound fx to cut in between segments really pisses me off.

But I'm listening to the Gina Torres interview right now. Hopefully it'll give me some insights.

As for the story, I think it would be a funny meta thing if Zoe couldn't stand Morpheus, since Gina is married to Laurence Fishburne in real life. He'd be his usual Morpheus self talking about rabbit holes, fates and destiny, and Zoe would have a look on her face that says "This guy makes River sound sane." Plus, Morpheus might have a grudge towards Zoe because her franshise is about to become the next big cultural thing, while his has crashed and burned.

On a side note, when any of you guys were watching MATRIX RELOADED, and Morpheus goes "ZION...HEAR ME!!!", did any of you expect him to then yell "CAN YOU DIG IT!!!" like Cyrus off of THE WARRIORS? Every time I see that moment, I keep thinking WARRIORS.

I haven't seen The Warriors, but whenever I see that scene, I always think of the MTV Movie Awards spoof with Justin Timberlake and Seann William Scott. Hilarious!

LOL!

I couldn't remember the guys name, that's right - Andy Dick

I think its great how they intersplice the footage from the movie - you can't tell where its been edited (Well you can, knowing the movie, but if you hadn't seen the movie, it would be difficult to tell)

Andy Dick (to Seann and Justin): Apparently Morpheus is having a huge orgy at his place... at least that's what many of us have heard
Morpheus (from the movie): It is true, what many of you have heard
Andy Dick: YES! Morpheus, what can we expect at this orgy?
Morpheus: MACHINES!
