Joss hangs out with fans in Australia

So, Joss lands in Sydney and has no plans until tomorrow, so what does he do?

He hops on the Australian UIP board and writes:

So I'm here in Sydney and tomorrow I've a monstrous bunch of yakking to do, press and all that, a screening -- you guys know the drill. But today, being as that I'm footloose and fancy free, I thought it might be fun to sit down with a few peeps over a foamy beer and be a little less structured. I'm staying near the Orient, which is in the Rocks, so around 5:00 pm I figure to wander down there and hoist a few (just a few). If you're free and bored swing by. I'll be the one with the white carnation and a copy of "War and Peace". (That might be not true.) I'll be the one that looks like Joss, only more tired. (Wait, I always look tired. Maybe I better bring "War and Peace" after all.)

So I looked at the badges of the customs officials at the airport and thought, "What a coincidence. They're both named SYD." Yeah, I'm that guy.

At which point a lot of fans freak out, and those near Sydney rush over to say hello and geek out.

The original question posted was asking for a the proportional comparison for how many fans would turn up in a major city in the US after being invited by Joss for a few beers. With about 90 folks turning up , a bit of creative mathematics later, Australian Browncoats are really making hay while the Joss Shines:

"Lets just be completely unscientific and say that 90 from a fan base of 700 (as represented by this board's membership) equates to 6428 if you take the UB membership of 50000 as the fan base. Totally meaningless but looks impressive Mimbles
and also
I got 1,800 determined by the percentage of the USA pop being equivalent to that of Australia. Ignore the board sizes becuase that doesn't touch on the fans that got dragged in via phone or the fcat that both boards include members not part of the country in Q.

I thought ouch...must have gotten the maths wrong, but then again, size of America...say in New York which I think has a pop close to the size of Australias Pop (?) suddenly becomes very feasable.

Following on with the circus that is Joss in Aus, he was interviewed on 'Sunrise' this morning at 8.55am and was well supported by Browncoats Downunder at the window behind the set of the show. Thumbs up to them. He was aksed a lot of questions about Buffy and Wonder Woman and he did slip in plenty of references to Firefly and Serenity amongs these questions. I don;t think the interviewers really had much idea about the film but they certainly knew who Joss was. They finished up the set with a plug for the film,and a referral to their website for details.
Just to let you know what he is up to on the other side of the world.

I got to hang with him on Sunday night, a little on monday night and tuesday morning...yes I am bragging!!!

But he's very kool and was lovely to me and my daughters...
