I haven't seen this posted here, so i guess it hasn't, seeing as it was only posted online today:

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/reviewsnews.php?id=11129

I know that a lot of people go to Comingsoon.net for film news, so I guess its good news that Serenity got a very good review.

Hmmm...I'm glad the reviewer liked it, and that he feels non-Browncoat types would be able to follow everything.

I do, however, dislike that he keeps referring to Mal as a young Han Solo. They may have traits in common (and I did love Han in the SW movies), but Mal is his own character. Harder, I think, than Han was.

Well, it makes no nevermind. I'll be first on line come September 30th, with my family in tow. I'm all for rowdy Browncoats, but I do hope they keep it down while the movie is playing--I wouldn't want to miss any of Joss' dialogue!

I think it's kind of ironic that everyone keeps referring to Mal as a "young" Han Solo, since Harrison Ford was 33 when he filmed Star Wars, and Nathan Fillion is 34...

Chitwood's a lifelong Star Wars obsessive (He built Comingsoon.net as a throwaway side project to TheForce.net.) and by now he's too far gone to find redemption.

Star Wars is the alpha and omega for him, which is why he addresses Serenity through it.

I know, because I used to be as big a fan as he is. But I shall _never_ forgive him for the 8/10 review.

He supposedly watched the entire series and then complains about the "overly obsessive" fans wearing blue gloves "for some reason"?

Wow. I'm SO glad I found Serenity. Joss Whedon truly is my master now.

Actually, the reviewer isn't too far off seeing as how Joss wanted Mal to be the Han Solo type.

now stating this might get people in to see the movie, but it might not settle right with the SW freaks...

Lol. He didn't watch it. If he did, he wouldn't be complaining...

But you know, I should walk around my school wearing blue gloves. It'll confuse and maybe annoy the whole lot into questioning me about it (that's the idea too ^_^). heh.

you know, I just changed my MSN name to:

"Joss Whedon made me mad. It's going to be a while before I forgive him."

and already 2 of my non-Firefly fan friends have asked me why. it's all about the mystery. it really works.

plus I hear that the trailer played suring the OC the other day, so I imagine that it'll generate a little bit of buzz.

I think that's a really good review, thumbs up to the reviewer. He did overdo the Star Wars references, but as an obsessive I guess it's forgivable.

I can see his points about the Reavers being disappointing, they were just what I imagined but i guess in a way I'd have liked them to exceed my imagination.

As for the build up, I guess for a none fan it could be seen as a bit lengthy. So fair-do.

And the fan thing, it's completely true so I can't argue, but it's the fans that made this movie happen so I think it needs to be accepted.

I'd say one of the best fair reviews I've read.

I find it ironic that now it's being advertised on FOX.

I agree. I might help people to come see the movie but then they might expect to see something Star Warsie (?) when Serenity is definitly not that. I dont want non-fans to get the wrong impression and then dislike the movie cuz they thought it was gonna be like Star Wars but it was not.

But 8 outta 10 as a rating, thats not bad. Im quiet please with that.

There's been a second review posted on CS.

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/reviewsnews.php?id=11151

This one lays off the Star Wars comments more than the first one, and overall seems to praise it more.

Sneak--
This is off the topic. I just wanted to say thanks for all the Firefly soundbytes. I made a nice CD to listen to on the way to see 'Serenity'. I've listened to it about 7 times already. I played computer geek yesterday and did that, plus made myself a Firefly realmusic ringer for my cell. So now every time my phone rings, I get to hear the theme.
I hope they use the same Reaver music in the movie. That's my other favorite.

Well, actually I can see why he would find the 'overly obsessive' fans annoying! I love Firefly and I love going to the movies, and I would hate hate HATE to have my first taste of the movie be ruined by off-key singing or someone shouting. There's enough of people talking or asking questions at theaters already.

The blue gloves thing is cute, though.

And I can see why he compared Mal to Han Solo, as Mal did remind me very much of the aforementioned Star Wars character when I first got into the show.

And just like Original!Han, Mal isn't afraid to shoot first. SpecialEdition!Han dodges Greedo's point-blank shot? What's that?

I hate to say this, but the Serenity fans at the screening I went to were really obnoxious. Having people dress up or enjoy themselves at movies can be a lot of fun, but it was really annoying at this particular film. At this screening men were putting on rubber gloves in anticipation of the film (and even I'm not sure what that's a reference to). People were singing songs they had written about Whedon, Firefly, and Universal VERY LOUDLY and very badly. Another woman in the back repeatedly yelled out, "Are you aimin' to misbehave, Browncoats?!?!" It was a little much, and this comes from a Star Wars geek who has seen more than his fair share of geeks dressing up at movies. I'm sure this would chase away general moviegoers.

Clearly, some of us have forgotten that there's a special Hell reserved for people who talk at the theatre. I'm sure that applies to singing as well.

Fellow Browncoats: When I go, I'm going to hear Joss's words, spoken by our heroes, not you singing. Please save it for the midnight shows. We'll find a nice bar to sing in after.

These are all minor problems, however, that do nothing to distract from the how genuinely entertaining Serenity is. It's often said that you have to make one of these types of films before you know how to make one of these types of films, and if so that bodes great things for a sequel.

Let's hope he's right. It's certainly a good sign.
