Okay, so I must not be as into comics as I should be because I am confused by the Dark Horse site. It lists tomorrow (9/7) as the ship date for Serenity #3...now does that mean it leaves their warehouse and then arrives at my local comic shop later than that...or is tomorrow the day it should arrive at my local shop?

Well, I preordered the comics from Dark Horse's official online distributer (tfaw.com) and I don't get the comics until at least 2 weeks if not longer after the date listed on Dark Horse's website. I don't know how it works with the ship date though. I know with DVDs the release date is the date that it's supposed to be on the shelves of the stores.

See, there seriously need to be standards when it comes to this kind of terminology!

it means that is the date they should arrive at your local stores,
and you should call for them to pull your copies because they have been selling out really quickly.

tfaw is hopelessly slow, they get pre-orders and then take two weeks to mail them out...
I'm disgusted with them, and I wouldn't pre-order from them again.

Cool...I thought as much. And my work is less than a mile from the store, so I am right there after work!

Typically the ship date is the date the comic shops receive them, since this week had a holiday, most shops won't get them until Thursday (9/8). You may want to call your local shop before going there tomorrow to make sure.

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

In the comic store I shop at, they receive independent comic releases on the wednesday and the big ones (Marvel and DC) on Thursday. So Wednesday seems to be the day for Serenity. Fortunately I've asked them to save me a copy of each cover, just in case (they didn't have the Kaylee cover when I went last month and had to buy it off ebay). Then again, last week they forgot to save me copies of other comics I read, so I hope they do save Serenity

Yep, I actually got my "pre-ordered" issue #1s after issue #2 was released...
