I know you visit these boards now and then so I thought I'd just have to ask.

NEEDY

The road to Hel is paved with good intentions

I cant wait to read it either.
I don't particularly read Movie adaptations(though occasionally I read the book a movie was based on such as Jurassic Park), but after reading some excerpts I'm definitely picking this up

I especially liked the inclusion of the Battle of Serenity valley, that not only included bits from the pilot but was expanded as tie-in's should

NOSADSEVEN

So KRAD, if you wouldn't mind enlightening me on how this novelization business works... When you write a novelization and add stuff, does it need to meet the approval of those producing the movie, or is it a separate venture...like you've got the licensing and can do what you wish?

I guess my question boils down to, how does the business end of these things work, and how does that affect the creative end? (Does that make sense?)

With any media tie-in book, regardless of whether it's an original novel or a novelization, every stage has to be approved by the people who hold the rights.

In this case, it's Universal. To the best of my knowledge, Joss had final approval over everything -- and he did respond to a memo I wrote at the beginning of the process asking some questions about what I could do, and then the final manuscript came back with no changes.
