JAMIECHAMBERS

Good afternoon, folks!

While our mechanic is still tinkering in our website's engine room, I wanted to be able to share the front cover image of the Serenity Role Playing Game with all of you out there. It was a true labor of love for 11th Hour, who provided images and graphic design for the entire book.

Check it out!

Roughly 600 lucky souls were able to grab a copy from the Margaret Weis Productions booth at Gen Con, and we're going to try and do even better for Dragon*Con next week! The game will be in game and book stores everywhre in mid-September.

Enjoy!

** Jamie

Am I the only one who's not seeing an image?

ETA: nevermind. The site where the image is hosted is blacklisted as a gaming site by my work's firewall. I'll have to wait until I get home to enjoy it.

I can see you.

Shiny! I just love 11th Hour's art.

I hope you sell out before Saturday night at Dragon*Con, so you can come by and listen to our Firefly music at the Art Crawl Event. (Yukon room, Marriott, 8-10 pm).

But don't sell out before I get my copy. It's the only RPG purchase my wife has approved for this con!

I can't see it yet because I'm at work and the site's blocked, but if it's from 11th Hour, that's all I need to know. Her work is wonderful.

I'm not surprised she'd do this either. She's got a kind soul.

I'm definitely going to be ordering a copy from my FLGS tomorrow. Of course, I was going to anyway even before I saw the cover, if only for deckplans and ship stats. (It will have deckplans and ship stats, right? ) I'm a tech geek at heart, and love the little details that I can use to write interesting fanfic. For instance, two pieces of data I'm trying to track down are the dimensions of the cargo door and the maximum load capacity of the ship; I have a cargo in mind with a specific size, shape and mass, and I need to know for my story if it can be brought on board. I don't suppose any short excerpts from the game itself will be forthcoming? Hope the website is up soon.

Don't go selling all your copies before I buy one on Friday, or I /will/ be forced to do something I don't want to do.

Namely, leaving without a copy! Which I don't want to do!

Hey Jamie I need to ask a couple of game related questions and wondered where would be a good place to do that?

Speaking of the game website, could you please post the URL for it? Even if it's 404 for the moment, I'd put it on my "check regularly" list so I'd see it when it goes up. Maybe FFF.Net could put up a new forum just for discussion of the game. Will the game include character sheets for all of Serenity's crew and passengers?

Select to view spoiler:

Including Shepherd Book who, according to a recent excerpt from the movie novelization, is no longer on board?

ALL of Serenity's crew and passengers from the SERIES are included as character sheets, from Mal all the way thru to Book.

I purchased the RPG hardcover, which sold out in the morning on day two of hte convention, (and one of the limited edition {only 150 printed!} Gencon 2005 softcovers!) at Gencon last week. I also managed to play one of the demos there on Thursday, Aug. 18th. It's a fast, fun game that seems to capture the feel of the show rather well. I was told that somewhere between 700-800 hardcovers were sold at the con! Turnout was amazing and Margaret Weis couldn't have been happier she told me as she signed one of my books. Serenity was definitely the "buzz" at this years convention.

I am looking forward to getting my gaming group to start playing it very soon.

Is the game set up that we can create our own characters and ships or do we have to be members of Serenity?

You can create your own characters and ships as well as use the pre-defined characters. I also understand there are rules for playing a ship as a character. (note - this info is from the Comic-Con presentation, not from my personal experience with the game, but I believe it's accurate.)

JAQ (just another question): I've seen repeatedly that the game is expected in the stores by mid September, while the movie is out at the end of the month. Are there any significant spoilers for the movie in the game that we should be aware of? (I've seen indications in threads about advance screenings that Joss included one of his patented heartbreakers in the story, and I so don't want or need to learn about it any sooner than I have to.)

I haven't seen the movie yet, but yes, there are at least minor spoilers within the book. The main villain(?) (the black guy that is apparently after River) is covered. I haven't read his bio, nor that of a few other characters I have recognized from the trailers. I have been able to look through the book and have a good grasp of it's gameplay now and have managed to stay unspoiled for the movie..and I am very squeamish about spoilers.

To answer an another above question, yes you can create your own characters or play characters of your own devising as well as different ships. There is also section that allows you to play "ship as character."

DONTFEARTHEREAVER

I have the limited edition Serenity RPG book, limited to a print of 150, sold out by the author Margart Weis. I had her sign it, generically (just her signature), personally at the Dragon-Con. It is a beautiful Black covered, gold trimmed, thicker book bound by hand with a silk place marker bound into it. I got a low number out of the 150 as well. A collectible of collectibles. I am excited to have it. My wife thinks I spent too much money, but oh well. She's a fan and somewhat understands. Anyone interested I'm going to take some pics of it. Email me/PM me.

We got to see the panels with several cast members and can't wait for the 30th.

C'mon baby, Don't Fear the Reaver...
