Thats fantastic news Becs!

Rel, where did the Klingon Hamlet refrence come from?

The Narns are way better than Klingons, even though they were conquered by a bunch of wannabe Prussians with stupid hairstyles...

Klingon Society Geek note:
A society like Klingons is all wrong. They ascend the hierarchy by killing/beating their superiors... It would be entirely counter-productive to team work which would prevent a coherent society from forming...

EDIT: hmmm, not sure i'd like to be ManWithPez right now... or WifeWithPez for that matter... involving TWG seems a little unfair to me.

A: Kermit's undivided attention.

Ahhh, true geekdom, that is what I like. There are a number of societies like that today. True they don't succeed very well but they are, nonetheless, societies. Personally, I can think of a few superiors I woul like to have mindwiped.

Narns would always win but Minbaris would whoop all of them.

As a side-note:
No Sci-fi show too my knowledge, and I inculde B5, has ever come up with a truly believable Alien society... they're all so one dimensional, one religion, one point of view, always one goverment etc...

I was so trying to avoid that because of the controversy but you ask so it is your fault if I get shouted at. Many tribal societies have some form of 'us vs them' where the leader can (but not necessarily) be overthrown by others within the tribes. More specifically though in the modern world of nation states it is very common for countries to experience coups where different leaders get overthrown. In fact *lecture mode - sorry can't help it* in Pakistan the political and economic situation is such that there have been numerous coups since its formation. It has alternated between military and non-military regimes since 1947 (formal creation). This pattern of leadership is reflected in many walks of life. Whilst this may not be formalised as with the Klingons it has become the norm since Pakistan is such a young state (with a very old history and identity). *end of lecture - sorry*

You can wake up now.

EDITED: what isn't believable about the alien religions in B5?

I'd argue a coup and the disposition of a leader is slightly different to the Klingon mold of 'all for themselves' as it requires team work on some level... Though I see your point.
Basically the Klingon mold would be unworkable imho as it would necessarilly foster a climate of suspition, fear and paranoia that would cause any society to eventually implode after an extremly short period of time, if indeed such a society would form of its own accord in the first place.

Nothing as of themselves...
But how many religions does the Minbari have?
One.
The Narns?
One.
The centuari?
One.

In the episode The Parliament of Dreams these religions are shown (tho not the Narns?).
That doesn't make sense, each race gets one religion... When we have more than I'd care to count here .

OK, quick catch up:

Rel - shiny work my friend. For some reason, the vid made me think of Carol!!

Becs - excellent news. A good time will be had by all! And let's all take note that we have now passed the three month mark!

PR - hope you survived the power-cut! Have you seen on the net that Craig's turned on Anthony! Guess someone wasn't getting any! LOL!

Sean-well, that's easy. Marry a woman in her left mind. And since most right handed people use the left side of their brain, that gives you apporximately 90% of the female population to chose from. The world is your oyster, laddie!!

(Me, I use both sides. So I don't know WHAT that makes me. Except very very confused.)

I think it was rather antagonistic of her to belittle MWP's relationship with his children. We've all seen in his posts how much he adores them and dotes on them. Lashing out at other posters or the blogs he does is understandable, however inaccurate or offensive the thoughts are. It's a difficult time for all concerned.

But those are his kids and he'll always be their father. Any attacks on that bond between them will only cause misery and suffering, not just on MWP but the entire family.

I just hope things get resolved as calmly and rationally as possible.
