Hey, pretty sure this was covered somewhere, but haven't found it anywhere.

What sort of background do we have on Kaylee? Home planet? Age? Family size? Etc?

In Out of Gas, we learn that on what we presume is her home planet, she lets herself be picked up and taken on board by the (then) ship's mechanic. He mentions that "engines make her hot" and clearly she's not a virgin. She's a savant in that she can fix an engine on a vessel she's never even been up in. She works with her daddy, "when he got work, which ain't too much lately." She still lives at home, because when Mal offers her a job, she says, "I've just gotta ask my folks."

That she has a healthy sexual appetite is reinforced when she mentions the boy-whores in Heart of Gold and the boy who "must have been some kind of genetic experiment" at the tail end of Objects in Space.

I don't have any info to back this up, but I'm betting she comes from a pretty big family. I'd say she's about 20-21, but she acts younger because she knows it's cute.

But we don't have planet names or anything like that, do we?

Mal just calls it "this rock", and we know it's on the way to "Paquin" (phonetic). Sorry, not very helpful.

The crew doesn't seem to have made it back to her home planet before the cancellation, or we might have met the folks.

Boy, would I love to hear her describe what they do to Mom & Dad, since when Simon asks her what she's doing in The Train Job, her response is "crime."

Actually, when she says "crime", she's referring to what the crew's about to do (which is rob a train), and not to her folks.

I always imagine Kaylee's family to be like the families I grew up around here in Saskatchewan. Tight knit, farming the main industry on her home planet, mid to low class, but very folksy and huge.

I always liked KaySky's interpretation of the Frye family and I actually incorporated it into my fanfics as well.

And wow! Hey! What's this thing suddenly coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding name like ... ow ... ound ... round ... ground! That's it! That's a good name - ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?

Any place I can find that interpretation?

This link leads to all of KaySky's stories. You'd want PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE, although it would help if you read her previous stories. They all kinda blend in together.

Peace
