That's awesome!

My retired father is a volunteer usher at KPC. He's also a Firefly fan! (one of my many converts).

I'm sure he'll be stoked if he hasn't already heard about it.

wahoooo! I can't wait!

This is an excellent event to bring those new to Firefly too. Give 'em a taste of FF just before Serenity opens. And you know you'll have fun!

Guess what?!?!?!? Thanks to info provided by a fellow Browncoat, KPC will be showing the Serenity trailer during this event!

Universal's exact response was: "No problemo. When do you need the trailer by??? Thanks for all of your support!"

Ticket sales are at 54... Gather your friends, gather your enemies, just gather everyone and come down to Kirkland!

Sounds like a gas. Just moved to WA from NY. One question though, is Kirkland near Everett?

First, WELCOME to the NW bribruce3! Secondly, Kirkland is east of Seattle just across Lake Washington. So 45min?-1hr? drive from Everett via I-5 South>I-405 South.

Welcome to the neighborhood, fellow browncoat bribruce3! I don't want to correct anybody but on a decent night it might take you considerably less than an hour to get from Everett to Kirkland, I guess 30 minutes should be more than enough. Enjoy the evening everyone!

Shiny, thanks for the feedback/correction. I had a debate with a coworker who was sure it was at least an hour and I *knew* that was not right... so I went for the 'stuck in traffic, safe over-estimate'.

Four Firefly episodes on the big screen, the Serenity trailer...

AND NOW Serenity keychains and mini-posters for all attending. These are the same items that were available at the movie pre-screenings. If you missed out on getting these, make sure you attend in Kirkland!

Disclaimer: None will be given out beforehand, only at the event on 9/17.

Goober - didn't see this here yet, so I took the liberty

CEDRIC

Do you know if there will be any Firefly-related events in western Washington during August? I'll be in the area all month, and I'd love to come by and sing "The Ballad of Joss" for some Browncoats while I'm there.

You can drop me a private note at fithelere@aol.com.

I don't know of anything planned right *now*. Here's a good place to check: http://www.geocities.com/protoreaver/

Sept. 1-5 is Cascadia Con (Sea-Tac) and there is talk of a party suite in the works (maybe Fri 9/2?).

I received the Serenity trailer yesterday from Universal and can verify that is is titled #3, so it seems to be the most up-to-date version that's out there.

We're also going to have a costume contest. Don't know yet what the prize will be, but come as Cap'n, come as Kaylee, come as the guy selling Good Dogs in the pilot, come as Badger.... just be there to witness the mayhem!

To recap: 4 episodes, Serenity trailer, Serenity movie merchandise, singalong, giveaways and a costume contest. This should be a very full night.

We have sold 108 tickets so far...

Mini-athon recap

I think it went really well. Total tickets sold: 312/402. Energy was high. People seemed really jazzed.

There were fabulous banners in the lobby for folks to take pictures in front of (see pics, one was the Serenity logo handpainted). The following items were sent by [fan] vendors for Browncoats to buy:
* "Firefly Episode Guide" (Unofficial): http://www.windstormcreative.com/lightning/2083X.htm
* Can't Take the Sky From Me wristbands: http://www.fandone.com/CTSFMwristbands.html
* "Inara" Trading Cards: http://blackonblack.home.att.net/
* "Browncoat Definition" buttons: http://www.cafepress.com/scififorscifi/

There was a journalist in attendence interviewing folks and taking pictures of costumed fans.

We watched Serenity 1&2. Just about everyone sung along to the opening theme song.
-- Intermission --
Then the outcome of the costume contest (judging throughout evening until announcement). The costumes were completely overwhelming. People really outdid themselves. It was amazing. I think there were nearly two dozen folks participating in the contest (some other folks seemed costumed but they didn't come down to participate).
-- Prizes --
> Knit Jayne hat w/straw went to "Kalee" in pink dress;
> Snappy Dragon gift certificate for $30 (best Chinese resturant in Seattle) went to "Zoe" with blue shirt;
http://www.snappydragon.com/
> Science Fiction Museum pack (HiveMind/Family Membership & two SFM caps) went to a "Mal"
http://www.sfhomeworld.org/
-- More Prizes --
More prizes were given out randomly depending upon what Universal pack you received when you entered the theatre. These 'door prizes' were determined by stickers or writing on random envelopes. The prizes included: ticket sets for three separate performances at the Kirkland Performance Center; a 'deluxe-Wash' dinosaur set; 6 passes to an advance screening of Serenity; and a FF dvd boxset.

Then we watched the Serenity trailer and Out of Gas, followed by a "Hero of Canton" Sing-Along, and then Ariel. We ended it with one more viewing of the Serenity trailer.

Folks came from Portland, OR and Vancouver BC. I think someone [local] even flew family in from Las Vegas for the event. It sounds like a shiny time was had by all.

Now what I want to know is - what are we doin' this week? ;)

One of the BC'ers has photos: http://firefly.meetup.com/12/photos/
